WTF Has the Untied Nations Done NOW???

Without fanfare, the United Nations this week elected Iran to its Commission on the Status of Women, handing a four-year seat on the influential human rights body to a theocratic state in which stoning is enshrined in law and lashings are required for women judged "immodest."

Just days after Iran abandoned a high-profile bid for a seat on the U.N. Human Rights Council, it began a covert campaign to claim a seat on the Commission on the Status of Women, which is "dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women," according to its website.

Buried 2,000 words deep in a U.N. press release distributed Wednesday on the filling of "vacancies in subsidiary bodies," was the stark announcement: Iran, along with representatives from 10 other nations, was "elected by acclamation," meaning that no open vote was requested or required by any member states -- including the United States.

Yeah,...About That Whole "Gun Control" Thing,...

BEIJING (AP) — A knife-wielding man wounded 28 children — most just 4 years old — and three adults Thursday at a kindergarten in eastern China, the second such violent assault at a Chinese school in as many days.

Five of the students were in critical condition in the hospital in Jiangsu province, said Zhu Guiming, an official with the propaganda department in Taixing city. Zhu said two teachers and a security guard also were hurt in the attack that happened early in the school day.

The attacker was a 47-year-old local man, the official Xinhua News Agency reported. It said many of the victims were 4 years old and in the same class at the Zhongxin Kindergarten.

The violence was the latest in a string of attacks on young children at Chinese schools. On Wednesday, a man broke into a primary school in Guangdong province in southern China and wounded 15 students and a teacher in a knife attack.

The rampage Wednesday in Leizhou city came on the same day as another assailant was executed for killing eight children last month in stabbings that shocked China.

Whither WASP-ism?

Most American voters are okay with having no Protestant on the Supreme Court, but only 9 percent think President Obama should pick another Ivy Leaguer according to a Fox News Poll released Wednesday.

With the retirement of Justice John Paul Stevens, the U.S. Supreme Court could be left without a single Protestant for the first time ever. Most American voters are OK with that, according to a Fox News Poll released Wednesday.

Stevens, who announced his retirement April 9, is the only Protestant currently sitting on the court. Of the remaining eight justices, six are Roman Catholic and two are Jewish.

Overall, 70 percent of American voters say it wouldn’t matter to them if there weren’t any justices with a Protestant religious background on the court, while 27 percent say it would matter.

The results are bit more evenly divided among Protestants: 57 percent say it wouldn’t matter, and 39 percent say it would.

Republicans (41 percent) are about twice as likely as Democrats (19 percent) and independents (22 percent) to say yes, it would matter.

San Francisco Leads Charge to Boycott Arizona, But Calls Could Spark Backlash

FOXNews.com

Sanctuary city San Francisco is leading the charge of municipalities and groups considering a boycott of Arizona over its law to allow police to ask people their immigration status.

Mayor Gavin Newsom this week suspended all non-essential travel for city employees going to Arizona, meaning no conference in Scottsdale next weekend for members of the city's housing authorities. The city's Board of Supervisors also has taken the first step toward an economic boycott, a move that could result in the suspension of existing contracts with Arizona-based companies and a ban on new ones.

But Newsom also has formed an "Arizona Boycott Workgroup” to analyze if and how an economic boycott could backfire on San Francisco businesses. For instance, the city does business with a company that accepts and processes payments in Arizona. There's concern if the boycott is made uniform, 2,500 San Franciscans could lose their jobs.

Groups like the San Francisco Convention Bureau and the city's restaurant lobby also worry about a reciprocal backlash.

More American Know-How at Work!

Ford Motor Co. says it earned $2.1 billion in the first quarter, another sign the economy is improving as people spend more on big-ticket items like cars.

Ford's U.S. sales rose 37 percent for the quarter and its market share climbed nearly three percentage points. The automaker is benefiting from a rebound in auto sales, higher quality rankings and a boost to its reputation for avoiding government aid.

So,..It WAS Bush's Fault,....

George Will, on Arizona's decision to actually DEFEND our country's border:

Finally, if we just built the damn wall like Bush tried to do, we wouldn’t be in this stupid mess to begin with. And the people who screamed about that wall have no right to complain with Arizona’s new policy now. They BEGGED for the tough new Arizona law.

The shrill cry of the leftwing was that a border wall was identical to the Iron Curtain. The only thing wrong with that is that it is beyond ignorant; the Iron Curtain was created to keep citizens from escaping to freedom; a border wall would protect out citizens by keeping illegal immigrants who have no right to be here out.

Liberals also cite the Posse Comitatus Act as preventing the powers of the federal government from using the military for law enforcement. But that begs the question: just how is protecting our borders from foreign invasion “law enforcement”? This is a clear situation in which our national security is at issue. The soldiers on the border would not be arresting American citizens; they would be detaining foreign invaders.

The Chinese built the Great Wall of China to keep the Mongols out; and it worked. And I’m just guessing that a people who put a man on the moon can build a damn wall that does the job.

Bottom line, I think the Arizona law probably ultimately goes too far. But like I said, pro-illegal immigration forces DEMANDED a law that went too far by steadfastly refusing any form of reasonable policy.

There is no reason whatsoever that citizenship should not be checked along with identity and residence, under the same conditions and situations in which it is reasonable to ascertain identity and residence. And if you are here illegally, your ass should be on the next bus out of the country – after serving jail time for violating our borders and breaking our laws. And the wall that we build should make sure you don’t come back.

Hmmm,.....Liberals and Posse Comitatus? Seems to me, back in 1993 a certain liberal administartion didn't think twice about Posse Comitatus when the sic'ed the US Army on the Branch Davidians, huh?

A voice-over actor — best known for telling viewers they can save 15 percent or more on car insurance — says he lost his gig doing Geico commercials after leaving a voicemail with a group that organizes Tea Party events to ask how many of its employees are “mentally retarded.”

Los Angeles actor D.C. Douglas in a press release said he was dropped from the upcoming Geico “Shocking News” campaign after leaving a message with the press shop at FreedomWorks, a Washington-based organization led by former Republican leader Dick Armey that has been at the forefront of the Tea Party movement.

The Bitter American pours a steaming cup of Earl Grey into Rahm Emmanuel's lap by stating:

As the uncle of a mentally-challenged niece, I'm doubly offended by this a**hole's comments.

Blame Canada!

Canadians accused of U.S. flag desecration

Two Canadian men may face charges of flag desecration and vandalism in California over a controversial display of Olympic pride.

Police in La Quinta say the men are accused of taking down the American banner and replacing it with a Canadian flag after Canada beat the U.S. in the men's gold-medal hockey match at the Vancouver Olympics.

The U.S. flag had been on display on a mountain and was maintained by a private citizen in honour of victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The flag was found damaged.

A complaint has been sent to the district attorney's office, police said. The men could face up to a year in jail if convicted.

Police identified the Canadians as Ryan Smith, 25, and Matt Siefert, 26. Both are said to be residents of the state.

Maybe Obama's 57 States Weren't That Far Off?

Obama: "Over the last fifteen months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states, I think — one left to go. Alaska and Hawaii I was not allowed to go to … my staff could not justify it."

The state of Long Island would be bigger than Rhode Island, while the official bird of West Kansas would be the pheasant. Frustrated citizens are trying to redraw borders, add new states and lower taxes. Michael J. Trinklein on how to succeed at seceding.

Long Island's latest quest to split from New York and become its own state had a promising start last year. Legislators in Suffolk county, upset over a new payroll tax to fund New York City's subways, voted 12-6 in favor of a secession plan. It seemed viable: In terms of square miles, Long Island is bigger than Rhode Island; its gross state product would be larger than that of 20 states. Some optimists even proposed a state bird: the duck.

Bob Brady, Congressman, Classless A-hole and Poster Child for Everything Wrong with the Dumb-o-crats!

HT to PA 2010:

Brady not worried about an all-Philly ticket

PHILADELPHIA—If Bob Brady has his way, the Democratic Party’s gubernatorial ticket will be all Philly, all the time. And that doesn’t bother him one bit.

Brady endorsed Anthony Williams for governor on Monday. He’s also endorsed—and been the most adamant supporter of—Jonathan Saidel for Lieutenant Governor. Williams is a state Senator hailing from west Philadelphia. Saidel is a former City Controller from northeast Philadelphia. Conventional wisdom holds that an all-Philly ticket would be disastrous in a general election, making it difficult to court votes from the many regions of the state wary of the big city’s influence on Pennsylvania politics.

Just don’t tell that to Brady, chairman of the city party.

“I’d be elated,” he told pa2010.com in a brief interview outside City Hall here. “I’d love to be in that position.”

Brady also downplayed the idea that his relationship with Dan Onorato, the party’s gubernatorial front-runner, is a bit icy. The perception is that Brady got peeved when chatter built earlier this year that Onorato might form a ticket with Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty—cutting out Saidel, a close friend to Brady. But Brady shrugged that off.

“We’re friends,” he said, “but I’ve got lots of friends.”

INEPTA Hits All-Time Low

Talk about "dying for a ride...."

Believing the passenger was just sleeping off a drunk, a SEPTA supervisor allowed an unresponsive man who had urinated his pants to stay on a SEPTA bus on a cross city trip from the 69th Street Terminal to the Frankford Transportation Center.

But when the bus reached the end of the line, the man was dead.

Defending the supervisor's decision, SEPTA this morning confirmed a story in the Metro that Leonard Sedden, 68, apparently died on the trip on a Market-Frankford NiteOwl bus early Sunday.

He had suffered a fatal heart attack from a drug overdose.

A transcript of a communications between the bus driver and a control supervisor published by the Metro showed the driver voicing concern about the passenger's condition when she got on the bus. She reported he had urinated his pants and was drooling.

SEPTA spokeswoman Jerri Williams verified the accuracy of the transcript.

The control supervisor told the driver to continue on the trip and that a route supervisor would meet the bus later. "I don't want to delay service," the supervisor said.

A route supervisor later determined the man was still breathing and told the driver to continue to Frankford, where police would take him off the bus, the driver told the control supervisor.

When the bus arrived, Sedden, who has an arrest record and was awaiting a court hearing on drug possession charges, was dead.

Williams said intoxicated people frequently ride buses during the night and that they are allowed to remain on board as long as they are not causing a disturbance.

The supervisor "was trying to keep on schedule," Williams said.

"He was just willing to allow this person to sleep it off, to remain on the bus so the bus could continue," she said.

The Metro identified the bus driver as Natika Manfra and quoted her as saying, "It just boggles me that I was riding around and he was deceased and other passengers were getting on."

Play Ball!

04/12/10 12:15 AM ET

HOUSTON -- The Phillies returned to Philadelphia on Sunday night already in a pretty good routine.

It could help them Monday.

They are 5-1, which is their best start since they started 7-1 in 1993. Roy Halladay has delivered in two starts. Everybody in the offense seems to be hitting. The bullpen has shown promise. It has been a good first week on the road.

Now it's time to play at home.

"We have a good feel on our team right now," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "I think we're ready to go get 'em."

The Phillies play their home opener Monday afternoon against the Washington Nationals at Citizens Bank Park, and Manuel said he believes his team is ready to handle the festivities. That wasn't the case last season when he thought the 2008 World Series championship celebrations became a distraction, contributing to their 6-8 start.

Needed: Shakespearean Healthcare Reform!

Or,..."First thing we do, we kill all the lawyers!"

I don't normally post about my regular job, being a paramedic, on this blog. Its sometimes boring, sometimes mind-numbingly stupid in its scope of human depravity, and not nearly as glamorous as Wyatt's job as a police officer, or Captain America's fire captain.

Then I read stories like this and it makes my head explode!

JEMS
OrlandoSentinel.com
2010 Apr 7
This massive $10 million jury award to a plaintiff in Florida presents a dilemma to ambulance services called on to transfer patients in labor from one hospital facility to a specialty care facility. On September 21, 2003, EVAC Ambulance, a respected high-performance, EMS agency, was dispatched to handle this inter facility transfer of a patient in labor and the crew responded with a duty to act as they would have to the home of a patient in labor.

The paramedic in charge was advised that the patient was 25-26 weeks pregnant and had been experiencing contractions approximately four minutes apart. The transferring physician reported the patient’s cervix was minimally dilated. An emergency transport was initiated and approximately fifteen minutes into the transport, the patient began experiencing contractions three minutes apart - lasting thirty seconds in duration.

Moments later, the patient’s amniotic sac ruptured and immediately following the sac rupture, the infant presented in the breach mode. The infant was successfully delivered, wrapped in a silver swaddler and ventilatory support was started. Due to the infant’s mottled skin color and flaccid condition, immediate CPR was started and continued for approximately eight minutes until the infant’s color improved, had slight movement and a weak cry. The mother and premature newborn were diverted to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford for stabilization where they were further treated. The infant was transferred to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando and treated in their Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Feel free to read the case dissection by AJ Heightman, a well-respected leader in the EMS field.

Here's my enraged take on the whole story:

1 - the local hospital probably doesn't have high-acuity OB/GYN doctors. Why? They're the biggest targets of malpractice cases in the US (source) (source). Many give up because they can't afford the insurance premiums. Because of that, the available appropriate facilities are few and far between, placing the care of the mother and child into the hands of (relatively) less-trained pre-hospital care providers for the transport.
2 - Normal gestation is 36-40 weeks. This baby was at 25 weeks, which holds a greater than 50% mortality rate. The deck was stacked again the baby long before the paramedics got involved.
3 - The mother had multiple disease processes going on in her reproductive system. That stresses the baby (note I refuse to say fetus) even more! Could a possible lack of pre-natal care contributed in an way?

So, instead, mom's now $10M richer, a great EMS provider's reputation is tarnished, and some bottom-of-the-pond scum lawyer got his 20%!

I'm disgusted!!!

Racism! Racism!

ALBANY, N.Y. – They've been called Oreos, traitors and Uncle Toms, and are used to having to defend their values. Now black conservatives are really taking heat for their involvement in the mostly white tea party movement — and for having the audacity to oppose the policies of the nation's first black president.

"I've gotten the statement, 'How can you not support the brother?'" said David Webb, an organizer of New York City's Tea Party 365, Inc. movement and a conservative radio personality.

"I've been told I hate myself. I've been called an Uncle Tom. I've been told I'm a spook at the door," said Timothy F. Johnson, chairman of the Frederick Douglass Foundation, a group of black conservatives who support free market principles and limited government.

"Black Republicans find themselves always having to prove who they are. Because the assumption is the Republican Party is for whites and the Democratic Party is for blacks," he said.

And the award for dumbest comment from the left?

Hilary Shelton, director of the Washington bureau of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, suggested a bit of caution.

"I'm sure the reason that (black conservatives) are involved is that from an ideological perspective, they agree," said Shelton. "But when those kinds of things happen, it is very important to be careful of the company that you keep."

Sure! Because, heaven forbid, someday "colored people" might not need a left-leaning assocation to advance them anymore!

The TRUE Catholic Scandal?

Why on earth is the Archdiocese of Chicago giving Father Michael Pfleger a lifetime achievement award?

He is a disastrously disobedient priest who has been a thorn in Cardinal George’s side (and an embarrassment for the Church) for years.

An AmP reader refreshes our memory:

Fr. Pfleger is the same priest who was (temporarily) suspended for joining with a crowd threatening to “snuff out” a gun shop owner. He’s a pal of race-baiter Rev. Wright (of Obama fame). He gave that (in)famous anti-Hillary tirade during the ‘08 primaries.

Michelle Malkin includes more links to Pfleger’s outrageous activities. I don’t share her anti-bishop/Church sentiments, but I do share her disgust with Pfleger’s antics – which demean his priestly ministry – and believe we should take action.

I chronicled Pfleger’s most visible dust-up which occurred in June of 2008, and also did research at the time into Pfleger’s “long habit of rebellion.” My link and Malkin’s should be more than enough to see why Pfleger’s doesn’t deserve any honors, let alone honors from a Catholic archdiocese.

I observed back in 2008 about Pfleger: “If you want an example of the damage caused when problem priests are allowed to persist, you’ve got a classic case right here…”

Now it has only gotten worse.

Please call the Archdiocese of Chicago at 312-534-8200 and demand that Father Pfleger’s award be withdrawn. (His name is pronounced “FLEGER”, I believe – the P is silent).

Bye! Eagle! Bye!

HIS VOICE betrayed no emotion, because, well, because he is Andy Reid.

At a little after 9:30 p.m. on Easter Sunday, the Eagles' coach settled in behind a microphone in the NovaCare auditorium, as reporters scurried for seats and TV cameras were hoisted onto tripods.

"OK, we're, ah, I'm here to announce we've traded Donovan McNabb to the Washington Redskins, for their second-round pick and then a pick next year, a fourth-round pick that can become a third-round pick next year," Reid said, in the same familiar tone that during the season heralds the listing of injuries.

And typical for clueless Fat Andy: one step forward (deep-sixing a ne'er-do-well, injured QB) and two steps back (keeping him the same division!)

Easter Sunday

Luke 24:1-8 -

1On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.' " 8Then they remembered his words.

Somewhere in yesterday's sophmoric silliness, I surpassed the 40,000 hit mark. This was the fastest 10000 hits in the history of the Bitter American blog.

There were probably a lot of factors to my meteoric climb, but these are two of my favorites:

Now 27, Paquin dated actor Kieran Culkin in 2007, and has never discussed her sexuality with the press. She became engaged to True Blood costar Stephen Moyer, 40, in August 2009. The couple hasn't yet announced their wedding date.

"We always take the p--- out of each other and are silly with each other, and it is great," Brit actor Moyer has said. "We're very, very happy. She's the best."

Obama Wins! (And I am Kicked Off the Blogosphere!)

Gentle readers,
Hopefully, you'll still be able to read this before Google's executioner takes a swipe at my neck!

Yesterday morning, I received an e-mail from Google, the parent company of Blogger (my blog's platform) stating that my blog was to be shutdown due to "violations" of their user policies.

I'm going to try and save the HTML code to migrate over to another host, but in the meantime, continue the good fight, stop the Obamessiah before he shreds the First Amendment once and for all, and drop a few teabags in the Potomac for me!

Forever faithful in what America was and can be again,
