Captain Obvious? Call on Line 2,...

A municipal court judge yesterday branded the accused killer of Officer John Pawlowski as "a domestic urban terrorist" who "ambushed" police officers responding to a call.

In a courtroom nearly filled with police officers and friends and relatives of Pawlowski, who was slain Feb. 13, Judge Patrick Dugan then ordered Rasheed Scrugs held for trial, which he scheduled for April 16.

Scrugs, 33, is charged with murder, attempted murder, robbery and related charges in connection with the death of Pawlowski, 25, who was shot when he intervened in an attempted robbery.

For the first time, officers on the scene gave a detailed account of the deadly confrontation, with one saying he fired at least 10 shots toward Scrugs.

Pawlowski's widow, Kim, who is pregnant, sat in the front row of the courtroom with relatives and wept throughout the hearing. Several ranking police officials were present, and uniformed police officers lined both sides of a long hallway leading to the courtroom.

Four witnesses, including Pawlowski's partner, Officer Mark Klein, identified Scrugs as the gunman as they testified about the shooting at Broad Street and Olney Avenue.

Klein said that he and Pawlowski were responding to a report of a man with a knife when they arrived at the scene and saw hack taxi driver Emmanuel Ceser, who identified Scrugs as the man who had been harassing him and trying to take his money.

"I noticed the defendant walking backwards with his eyes on me and John," Klein testified. "John said, 'I want to see your hands.' "

Klein said that Scrugs then fired out a handgun from his right jacket pocket and that Pawlowski "was standing and then basically collapsed."

Klein testified that he started dragging Pawlowski toward their patrol car and that Scrugs then began firing at Officer Stephen Mancuso, who arrived as backup, "and that's when he came around and fired at me."

"I basically fired until the defendant dropped," Klein said, adding that he fired about 10 shots.

Assistant District Attorney Edward McCann said Pawlowski was felled by three gunshots, one to the right chest, a graze wound to the right arm and one shot to the back.

Mancuso testified that as he drove to the scene, he saw Pawlowski and Klein facing Scrugs.

"I looked and saw a male standing there. John and Mark were walking toward the male and I saw a muzzle flash. . . . I saw John kind of tense up and fall to the ground."

Mancuso said that he fired three shots at Scrugs and that he saw "muzzle flashes" coming from Scrugs.

He said he then saw Scrugs fall to the ground on the Broad Street median.

During a break in the testimony, Scrugs fell to the floor in the doorway of a holding area as he was being led from the courtroom. He accused court officers of pushing him down. (Wa-a-a-a! Little p***y!)

In his testimony, Ceser, the taxi driver, said that Scrugs had slammed him against a newsstand, grabbed at a chest-level pocket on Ceser's jacket where he kept his money and asked, "How much did you make today?"

Ceser said he walked across Broad Street and called police.

He said Scrugs confronted him again. "He told me if I called the cops, he would shoot me and the cops."

Damn-n-n!

As anybody paid attention to global politics knows, we saw a sea change in most of Europe from leftist and left-center governments to more capitalist, conservatives ones. Hell, even Sarkozy was bold enough to say the French don't work hard enough! So, in the spirit of Monsieur Sarkozy, Frau Merkel of Germany, Signore Berlusconi of Italy and many others in the burgeoning democracies of the East: George W. Bush planted the seeds of a proper government on your soil, so now maybe its time we harvest what we've sown and get our true leaders to grow a spine like this gentleman:

It Really Is Clintopia, Part II

Forget the Obamistake filling his cabinet with former Socialist Clinton clingers-on. After reading this, all we'll need is a cigar, a cheap slut and a few dead bodies with Shrillary's footprints all over them and it'll by the 90s all over again!

Missouri Libertarian Party Condemns Missouri Highway Patrol Training Document as Political Profiling

Internal MIAC “Strategic Report” implies Libertarian Party members and other political activists could be members of “the militia movement”

The memo purports to outline “trends” in extremist militia activity and claims those involved in such activity “…commonly associate with 3rd party political groups.” It went on to claim that militia members are “usually supporters of” Bob Barr, another third party candidate and Republican Ron Paul. While the report claims to be a memo about trends in militia activity, no specific evidence is offered to support the claim.

You can glean the MIAC Report here.

My God,...can you imagine? Third Parties in the face of an ineffective government? Militias responding to the government's attempts to usurp the Second Amendment? All we need now is that media construct Ross Perot in 2012 and the Obamistake in front of his TelePrompter denying he had sex with that woman, Helen Thomas!

Yeah,...I had to go there,....

Its Not Enough That the Obamessiah's Wrecking Our Economy,...

Now, he wants to enslave our citizenry?

The Barackistan credo is to seize upon every opportunity to exploit it — and find yet another way to redistribute the wealth (taxpayer wealth, that is).

Next up on the agenda this week is the GIVE Act, short for the “Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act”.

Y'know,..that's pretty Goddamn funny. In an neophyte administration that's been all about take-take-take, NOW they want to GIVE us something?

In a country where 2/3 of the firefighting force is comprised of volunteers, we can't get your average 17 year old to part with his PS3 or Facebook page long enough to learn how to lug a 100-lb 1 3/4" hose into a burning building, but this moron thinks he's going to FORCE us to volunteer to clean up the country??

Somewhere in DC, even Rahm Emanuel is whispering "Arbeit Macht Frei!"

In the end, the verdict against Vincent J. Fumo was a resounding affirmation of the federal government's case against the once-powerful lawmaker.

Count by count, the jurors rejected Fumo's testimony, rejected the central themes of his defense, and rejected his lawyer's promise back in October that they would conclude that the prosecution's evidence was "decidedly one-sided and grossly distorted."

For 13 minutes, the word guilty rang out over and over in the hushed courtroom as Fumo was convicted of all 137 charges against him. His codefendant, Ruth Arnao, was found guilty of all 45 counts against her.

In interviews after the verdict, jurors said they were struck by the totality of the evidence in the case, including more than 1,300 e-mails and other documents presented by federal prosecutors.

"I was hoping to find some reasonable doubt, and it was so difficult," said juror Myrna DeVoren of Haverford, Montgomery County. "The evidence was so clear."

"The overwhelming evidence was there," said juror Greg Brecker of Souderton, Montgomery County.

He, too, said they had looked for ways to acquit. "We were trying to find him innocent on at least some of the counts," said Brecker, who works as government liaison for a union.

For nearly an hour, the jurors talked about the case against Fumo, the experience of serving on a high-profile case, and the process of sifting through the evidence after listening to more than four months of testimony.

"It's unreal, just how long the process was," said Kaylyn Fain, 25, of East Greenville, Montgomery County, who works at Thomas Jefferson University.

Several said they viewed Fumo as a politician who seemed to have started off with good intentions but eventually crossed the line.

"My sense is he started out to be fair and accountable, and I heard a lot of good things," said DeVoren. But gradually, she said, she saw a different view of him.

"All of a sudden, it just started to shift," said DeVoren, who found herself thinking, "What happened to caring and helping?"

"OPM," said juror Betty Burkett, a retired social worker, referring to the trial's famous acronym for "Other People's Money" - which one witness quoted Fumo as having said he liked to spend.

"Greed," said juror Antoinette Randell, a lab technician from Perkasie, Bucks County.

Libs Laying Groundwork to Sink RINO Specter

HT to PAWaterCooler contributors:

Arlen Specter with his two options: become an independent like Lieberman or hope this Alaskan makes a few trips to PA. (Photo by Flickr user scriptingnews. Creative Commons License.)

With former congressman Pat Toomey’s revelation that he is seriously considering jumping over from the governor’s race to take on 16-term Senator Arlen Specter, the blogosphere is abuzz with possible scenarios.

Full disclosure: In 2004, I was the Issues Director for Congressman Joe Hoeffel who ran unsuccessfully against Senator Specter in the general election. Specter won that general by about 11 percent of the vote after squeaking by in the primary against Toomey. At the time, we on the Hoeffel campaign clearly liked our chances against Toomey better but considered it pretty unthinkable - at least early on - that the guy could win. As that primary approached, however, and the polls showed some tightening, it became clear that it would be a dogfight.

Earlier today I was in touch with some former colleagues from that race and one local Democratic operative about some number crunching that the operative had done to compare the PA GOP electorate of 2004 with 2008. Going county-by-county, his worked showed that while the GOP grew overall by about 13K between ‘04 and ‘08 (by contrast, the Democratic Party grew by over 700,000K after starting with a 500,000K lead in 2004), most of that growth was in counties that Toomey won or came very close to Specter.

Going county by county, he also extrapolated what the changes in registration totals would mean for each candidate. For example, in Bucks County, Arlen Specter got 31,971 votes to Toomey’s 25,139 in 2004. By 2008, the number of Bucks County Republicans had dropped by nearly 8 percent. Simply assuming that Specter still gets 55 percent of the remaining votes means that he loses 543 votes from his overall margin. Do this county by county and the result is that Specter loses almost half of his 17,000 vote margin.

And that assumes that the loss of Republicans in some counties and the gain in others is shared evenly between Specter and Toomey. It’s not a big leap to say that almost all of the 8 percent of voters who are no longer Bucks County GOP voters were Arlen Specter voters. So just by the numbers Specter seems to be in a tough spot.

The Bitter American takes Pohlig to task:

1 - The picture: this is what marketers call "product placement." Place Specter with two people the Dumb-o-crats consider "losers:" Lieberman and Palin

2 - They can't even mention Palin's name? WTF?

3 - If GOVERNOR PALIN stumps for anybody in Pennsylvania, it'll be for pro-lifer and REAL Republican Pat Toomey.

4 - Pohlig's Bucks County numbers assumes a trend towards Democratization. If the Obamistake continues to run this country into the ground, the backlash will make the DNC's head spin (It's Howard Dean, so that's probably happeneing anyway - YEA-A-ARGH!)

Cop fatally shoots man who wouldn't put hands up

By DAVID GAMBACORTA
Philadelphia XXXXX XXXX

gambacd@phillynews.com 215-854-5994

(no link attached per blog policy)

Sounds like the police did something seriously egregious, right?

Wrong! Hold your breath, pinch off your nose and read further:

A Philly cop fatally wounded a gun-toting robbery suspect in Kensington Thursday night in a scene eerily similar to the events that led to Officer John Pawlow-ski's death, police said.

"They asked him repeatedly to remove his hands from his pockets, which he did not," Vanore said.

Instead, the suspect inched toward the officers and suddenly removed a .380-caliber handgun from his pocket. Vanore said one of the officers opened fire, striking the suspect once.

The suspect, whose name was not released, was taken to Temple University Hospital. He died about 1:30 a.m. yesterday, Vanore said.

"It was similar to what happened to Officer Pawlowski," Vanore said. "Luckily, they came out on top this time."

Oh,...so the asshole didn't raise his hands when directed by the police, BECAUSE HE HAD A GUN IN HIS POCKET.

Last time that happened, Officer Pawlowski was gunned down in cold blood.

Why didn't you say that in the first place?

Because it made the police look bad and plays to the paper's market: the same classhole thugs who think its OK to shoot at police officers.

No wonder Philly Media is going bankrupt! Tierney, you're a classless tool! APOLOGIZE to LODGE 5, NOW!

And That's The End of the Story

Paul Harvey, the news commentator and talk-radio pioneer whose staccato style made him one of the nation's most familiar voices, died Saturday in Arizona. He was 90.

Harvey died surrounded by family at a hospital in Phoenix, where he had a winter home, said Louis Adams, a spokesman for ABC Radio Networks, where Harvey worked for more than 50 years. No cause of death was immediately available.

"Paul Harvey was one of the most gifted and beloved broadcasters in our nation's history," Jim Robinson, president of ABC Radio Networks said in a statement. "We will miss our dear friend tremendously and are grateful for the many years we were so fortunate to have known him."

Harvey had been forced off the air for several months in 2001 because of a virus that weakened a vocal cord. But he returned to work in Chicago and was still active as he passed his 90th birthday. His death comes less than a year after that of his wife and longtime producer, Lynne.
