In the End, the Bullhorn Prevailed,...

Imagine, gentle readers, if you can, that it is the summer of 1945: Hitler is dead and Germany has surrendered to the Allies. The Japanese Empire is slowly crumbling and an inevitable defeat to these same Allies is at hand.

Then-President Harry S. Truman signs the order to drop nuclar weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, forcing the capitulation of the Chrysanthemum Throne to the Western Allied Forces.

But it is President Franklin D. Roosevelt who is remembered as the American commander-in-chief who lead the charge to simultaneously stop the aggression of Hitler's Nazis and his Axis partners, including the Japanese Empire, from global domination.

Now, it is September 14, 2001. America, and the greater part of the world, are stunned to silence by the heinous actions of a religious madman and 20 of his followers.

Then-President George W. Bush climbs to the top of a pile of rubble where the World Trade Center once stood and utters the following:

President Bush: Thank you all. I want you all to know -- it [bullhorn] can't go any louder -- I want you all to know that American today, American today is on bended knee, in prayer for the people whose lives were lost here, for the workers who work here, for the families who mourn. The nation stands with the good people of New York City and New Jersey and Connecticut as we mourn the loss of thousands of our citizens

Rescue Worker: I can't hear you!

President Bush: I can hear you! I can hear you! The rest of the world hears you! And the people -- and the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon!

Rescue Workers: [Chanting] U.S.A.! U.S.A.! U.S.A.! U.S.A.! U.S.A.! U.S.A.! U.S.A.! U.S.A.!

President Bush: The nation -- The nation sends its love and compassion --

Rescue Worker: God bless America!

President Bush: -- to everybody who is here. Thank you for your hard work. Thank you for makin' the nation proud, and may God bless America.

Rescue Workers: [Chanting] U.S.A.! U.S.A.! U.S.A.! U.S.A.!

On May 1st, 2011, sitting President Barack H. Obama made that promise come true.

When it comes to laurels and praise, let us all remember where our priorities lie.

Finally, SOMEONE Who's NOT Blaming Bush!

Tony Blair has said he "regrets deeply and profoundly the loss of life" during and after the 2003 Iraq war.

The ex-PM said his refusal to express regret for the decisions that led to war at his first appearance before the committee had been misinterpreted.

But his words were met with cries of "too late" from the public gallery.

Mr Blair also urged the West to stop apologising for its actions and warned of the threat from Iran, during a four-hour grilling by the inquiry.

Asked whether what had happened in Iraq had made the risk from Iran and other countries developing nuclear weapons worse, rather than better, he said: "I don't think so."

"And this is not because we have done something. At some point - and I say this to you with all the passion I possibly can - the West has got to get out of what I think is this wretched policy, or posture, of apology for believing that we are causing what the Iranians are doing, or what these extremists are doing. The fact is we are not.

"The fact is they are doing it because they disagree fundamentally with our way of life and they will carry on doing it unless they are met with the requisite determination and, if necessary, force."

So,..It WAS Bush's Fault,....

George Will, on Arizona's decision to actually DEFEND our country's border:

Finally, if we just built the damn wall like Bush tried to do, we wouldn’t be in this stupid mess to begin with. And the people who screamed about that wall have no right to complain with Arizona’s new policy now. They BEGGED for the tough new Arizona law.

The shrill cry of the leftwing was that a border wall was identical to the Iron Curtain. The only thing wrong with that is that it is beyond ignorant; the Iron Curtain was created to keep citizens from escaping to freedom; a border wall would protect out citizens by keeping illegal immigrants who have no right to be here out.

Liberals also cite the Posse Comitatus Act as preventing the powers of the federal government from using the military for law enforcement. But that begs the question: just how is protecting our borders from foreign invasion “law enforcement”? This is a clear situation in which our national security is at issue. The soldiers on the border would not be arresting American citizens; they would be detaining foreign invaders.

The Chinese built the Great Wall of China to keep the Mongols out; and it worked. And I’m just guessing that a people who put a man on the moon can build a damn wall that does the job.

Bottom line, I think the Arizona law probably ultimately goes too far. But like I said, pro-illegal immigration forces DEMANDED a law that went too far by steadfastly refusing any form of reasonable policy.

There is no reason whatsoever that citizenship should not be checked along with identity and residence, under the same conditions and situations in which it is reasonable to ascertain identity and residence. And if you are here illegally, your ass should be on the next bus out of the country – after serving jail time for violating our borders and breaking our laws. And the wall that we build should make sure you don’t come back.

Hmmm,.....Liberals and Posse Comitatus? Seems to me, back in 1993 a certain liberal administartion didn't think twice about Posse Comitatus when the sic'ed the US Army on the Branch Davidians, huh?

Truth in Advertising

A Minneapolis-based advertising firm has cleared the air, sort of, surrounding a mysterious billboard that went up in Minnesota featuring a picture of former President George W. Bush with the words "Miss Me Yet?"

Cheney Learns to Shoot Straight

Dick Cheney said Tuesday that he's not going to "roll over" while Democrats accuse the Bush administration of breaking the law with its anti-terror policies.

The former vice president defended his decision to stay in the public eye during an interview Tuesday on FOX News, his latest appearance in a media blitz since leaving office.

Cheney, who has taken heat for remaining so vocal, told FOX News that the Obama administration is "dismantling" the national security policies that kept the country safe since the Sept. 11 attacks. He said he continues to speak out to combat the mounting criticism of Bush-era interrogation policies and weigh in on what he called the "outrageous" debate over whether to punish the officials involved with designing those policies.

"I don't think we should just roll over when the new administration ... accuses us of committing torture, which we did not, or somehow violating the law, which we did not," Cheney said. "I think you need to stand up and respond to that, and that's what I've done."

Damn-n-n!

As anybody paid attention to global politics knows, we saw a sea change in most of Europe from leftist and left-center governments to more capitalist, conservatives ones. Hell, even Sarkozy was bold enough to say the French don't work hard enough! So, in the spirit of Monsieur Sarkozy, Frau Merkel of Germany, Signore Berlusconi of Italy and many others in the burgeoning democracies of the East: George W. Bush planted the seeds of a proper government on your soil, so now maybe its time we harvest what we've sown and get our true leaders to grow a spine like this gentleman:

Reflections on "W:" An American Hero

Today, at 12:00 noon, power once again passed peacefully to another administration, as it has for more than 200 years.

He graciously worked WITH the incoming administration to ease the transition, unlike his predecessor, who vandalized everything in sight on the way out.

In 8 years, George W. Bush had to fight a three-front war that he never asked for. Less than a year into his administration, the country was suckered-punched in a terrorist attack that belittled the scope of Pearl Harbor. He vowed that it wouldn't happen again on his watch, and it didn't. But that didn't stop the media, both here and abroad, from hounding and belittling him at every opportunity.

Like Barack Obama, he inherited a weak economy, then blamed on the so-called "dot-com bubble." However, the weak economy being inherited by Obama is being laid squarely at the feet of Bush.

He never lost his faith and injected into his administration as often as the law allowed. He was a human being, brought to tears by every American death in this War on Terror; yet, he grabbed a bullhorn at Ground Zero and shouted into the face of our enemy that we would not let this go unavenged.

Today, the press will most likely portray him as leaving the White House with his shoulders slumped in dejection.

But that's not it,...he's just bowing his head in prayer again for this country.

THANK YOU, GEORGE WALKER BUSH!

BTW:

Charlie on the Turnpike and Tony Phyrillas have excellent, and differing, editorials on W"s administration.

No WMDs in Iraq?? Bush DIDN'T Lie!

And a liberal rag ran with the story? What's happening here?

Rachel Marsden gets to the bottom of the story:

How much uranium would Saddam Hussein have needed to qualify for “weapons stockpile” potential in the eyes of US liberals? Is 550 tons enough? That’s what was recently hauled out of Iraq and shipped to Canada, to use in nuclear energy production. (Like, for reals. Not the kind of “energy production” Mahmoud and the mullahs are into, which involves spinning centrifuges amid threats to wipe out another country simply because it has Jews.)

Remember all that fuss over whether or not Saddam had bought uranium from Africa. Who really cares now? It’s like giving Amy Winehouse one more hit of crack cocaine. The guy was already swimming in the stuff. Gorging himself on yellowcake like a fat kid at a birthday party.

Iraqi officials are glad to see the back-end of Saddam’s uranium stockpile, because they were worried it would get into the wrong hands - namely Ahmadinejad’s over in Iran, for the purpose of WMD/nuke production. But of course, Saddam was never a WMD threat, right? The war was all about Bush getting his hands on that Iraqi oil (if ONLY!), which has since been opened up to the world market. Saddam was just your average guy who liked to rip folks from limb-to-limb for sport. The poor victim of a US government conspiracy. Nothing to see here. Bush is evil. Go Obama. Ch-ch-ch change.

This uranium stockpile should be named “McCaincake”, in tribute to the candidate who couldn’t get the US liberal mainstream media to empty their main vein on him if he was on fire, either. The poor guy has to go to Canada, Colombia and Mexico just go get some press.

The TrekMedic adds:

Just remember folks: Katie and her legs say "Bush lied, people died!" "No WMDs in Iraq = no justification for invasion!"

More Reasons to Like the French Again,...

NATO supports sanctions on Iran

Rice is talking with nations about curbing Tehran's nuclear plans despite the NIE report.

BRUSSELS, Belgium - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice won support from European allies yesterday for new U.N. sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program.

NATO foreign ministers agreed to stay the course in seeking fresh measures at the United Nations to persuade Iran to stop uranium enrichment and reprocessing. The decision came despite the release Monday of a new U.S. intelligence report that concluded the country halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003.

Yeah, yeah, yeah,...more paper wasted pressuring I-Am-a-Mad-Jihad and his cronies to stop and play nice.

What sticks out in the story is this:

Earlier yesterday, ahead of Rice's meetings in Belgium, the leaders of France and Germany expressed similar sentiments, calling for a two-pronged approach of pressure and negotiations with Iran.

"I think we are in a process and that Iran continues to pose a danger," German Chancellor Angela Merkel said in Paris at a news conference with French President Nicolas Sarkozy in response to the American findings.

Sarkozy also sees threat

Sarkozy, who supports Washington's view, said he backs new sanctions.

"The threat exists," he said.

Seems to me a few years ago, Chirac et fils would have told the US to get lost! The Bush Doctrine must be working,...but you'll never hear the MSM admit it!

Vive La France?

The more this guy speaks, the less I dislike France,...

US President George W Bush and French President Nicolas Sarkozy have said they will work jointly to convince Iran to give up its nuclear programme.

After talks at Mount Vernon, near Washington, Mr Bush praised his French counterpart as "a partner in peace".

Mr Sarkozy earlier received a standing ovation during the first address in more than a decade by a French leader to a joint session of Congress.

He pledged to US lawmakers that France would support the US in Afghanistan.

But he also urged Americans to do more in the fight against global warming and complained that the Bush administration had allowed the dollar to plummet against the euro.

'Unacceptable'

In a press conference later following talks at Mount Vernon, the historic home of inaugural US president George Washington, Mr Bush said the pair had agreed to "work jointly to convince the Iranian regime to give up their nuclear ambitions for the sake of peace".

"The idea of Iran having a nuclear weapon is dangerous and therefore now is the time for us to work together to diplomatically solve this problem," he added.

Mr Sarkozy told reporters: "It is unacceptable for Iran at any point to have a nuclear weapon."

But the French leader emphasized that Iran was entitled to develop civilian nuclear energy, which Tehran argues is the sole aim of its programme.

The BBC's Justin Webb, in Washington, says Mr Sarkozy has taken on the mantle of the former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair in the affections of the US.

It is a stark contrast to the frosty relations under Mr Sarkozy's predecessor, Jacques Chirac, he adds.

'Eternal debt'

At Congress earlier, the current resident of the Elysee Palace was cheered for more than three minutes before he even began his 45-minute address.

He delighted his audience by saying: "Let me tell you solemnly today, France will remain engaged in Afghanistan as long as it takes, because what's at stake in that country is the future of our values and that of the Atlantic alliance."

Mr Sarkozy, 52, who was elected in May, said he wanted France to "resume its full role" in Nato's military command structure after several decades outside it.

He also urged Americans to "stand alongside Europe in leading the fight against global warming".

And he raised concerns over the dollar's fall against the euro, warning "monetary disarray could morph into economic war" and "we would all be its victims".

Mr Sarkozy devoted much of his speech to expressing gratitude for US heroism on French battlefields in World War II, and to praising American values, spirit and culture.

"America liberated us. This is an eternal debt," he said, adding: "I want to tell you that whenever an American soldier falls somewhere in the world, I think of what the American army did for France."

'L'Americain'

Analysts say Mr Sarkozy's warmly-received visit went a long way towards achieving his promise to "reconquer America's heart", which he declared upon his arrival on Tuesday.

Relations were strained in 2003 when France opposed the US-led invasion of Iraq - and French fries were renamed "freedom fries" on Congress canteen menus.

At a White House dinner with Mr Bush on Tuesday, Mr Sarkozy said differences over Iraq should not weaken their alliance and Mr Bush agreed.

The French leader, who spent the afternoon with Mr Bush while on holiday in New England in August, is widely known back in France as "l'Americain" for transatlantic leanings.

In 1996, many US lawmakers boycotted an appearance by Mr Chirac at the US Congress to protest against France's nuclear testing in the South Pacific.

You Mean,...it WASN'T All Bush's Fault???

California Officials Offer $150,000 Reward to Find Arson Suspects in Deadly Wildfire

California officials raised a bounty Thursday in an effort to find suspects behind the biggest in a string of deadly wildfires still burning out of control that are responsible for at least 10 deaths, more than 1,500 destroyed homes and nearly half a million scorched acres.

“We desperately want to catch the people or person who did this,” said Orange County Fire Authority Chief Chip Prather at a news conference.

The $150,000 reward came as President Bush toured some of the hardest-hit areas in San Diego and promised federal aid for thousands of victims.

"It's important for me to come out here and see firsthand the situation," Bush said at a press conference with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, telling victims that "today your life may look dismal, but tomorrow life is going to be better."

Also on Thursday, four charred bodies were found in an apparent migrant camp burned by one of the wildfires raging east of San Diego, authorities said.

The bodies were found in a wooded area near Barrett Junction, just east of San Diego and along the Mexican border, said Paul Parker, a spokesman for the San Diego County medical examiner's office.

Authorities said they discovered the bodies Thursday afternoon but did not know how long ago the victims died.

History Repeating?

20 years ago, President Ronald Reagan, standing before the Berlin Wall, famously challenged Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev in a speech that signaled the end of the Iron Curtain.

There are some real parallels to that episode in history and this story:

Bush Receives Hero's Welcome in Albania
By JENNIFER LOVEN

(AP) U.S. President George Bush greets Albanians in Fushe Kruje, Albania, Sunday, June 10, 2007. (AP...
Full Image

TIRANA, Albania (AP) - President Bush, enthusiastically welcomed as the first U.S. president in this former communist nation, served notice Sunday he is running out of patience with Russia's objections to independence for neighboring Kosovo.

"Sooner rather than later you've got to say 'Enough's enough - Kosovo is independent,'" Bush said, telling Albanians what they wanted to hear. He said independence was a certainty.

Nearing the end of an eight-day trip, Bush got a hero's reception in this desperately poor country, still struggling to recover from being cut off from the rest of the world for four decades under the harsh rule of dictator Enver Hoxha. Hoxha died in 1985, and Albania emerged from isolation in 1990 but still is one of Europe's most impoverished lands.

Cannons boomed salutes from mountains overlooking the capital. Huge banners proclaimed "Proud to be Partners," and billboards read "President Bush in Albania Making History."

At home, Bush's job approval rating stands at its all-time low. But here, Prime Minister Sali Berisha said Bush was Albania's "greatest and most distinguished guest we have ever had in all times."

(snip)

While the United States supports Albania's bid for membership in NATO, Bush said this country still has to make more political and military reforms and crack down on corruption and organized crime.

"We are determined to take any decision, pass any law and undertake any reform to make Albania appropriate to receive the invitation" to join the western military alliance, Berisha said at a news conference with Bush.

Albania has eagerly embraced democracy and idolizes the United States. Three stamps have been issued featuring Bush's picture and the Statue of Liberty, and the street in front of parliament has been renamed in his honor.

(snip)

Kosovo has been run by the United Nations and NATO since 1999, when Serbian leader Slobodan Milosevic's forces were ousted after a NATO air war ended his crackdown on independence-seeking ethnic Albanians, who make up 90 percent of Kosovo's population.

The U.N. Security Council has been divided over Kosovo's independence. The United States and key European countries support Kosovo's statehood while Russia, traditionally a Serbian ally, opposes it. Moscow says it would set a dangerous precedent for other breakaway regions.

Bush said diplomats from the United States, Russia and European Union will try to find common ground on a formula for independence.

"But if it's apparent that that's not going to happen in a relatively quick period of time, in my judgment, we need to put forward the (U.N.) resolution," Bush said. "Hence, deadline." He did not specify a date.

Negotiations must result in "certain independence," Bush said. "That's what's important to know."

Bush said the summit in Heiligendamm had tried to determine whether there was a way to make Kosovo independence acceptable to Russia. French President Nicolas Sarkozy unexpectedly called for a delay on the issue, and the summit failed to reach agreement.

Bush urged Albania to help maintain peace and calm in Kosovo as the independence talks move forward.

Predominantly Muslim, Albania has 140 troops in Afghanistan and about 120 troops in Iraq - a presence that President Alfred Moisiu says will not end as long as the Americans are engaged there. Bush met here with some of the troops who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Albanians know the horror of tyranny," the president said. "And so they're working to bring the hope of freedom to people who haven't known it. And that's a noble effort and a sacrifice."

In saluting Albania's democracy, Bush praised it as a country that has "cast off the shackles of a very oppressive society and is now showing the world what's possible."

The TrekMedic ponders:

One has to ask, "Why Kosovo and not Kurdistan (here) and (here)?" Is it OK to stick it to Russia, but not to Turkey, who opposes an independent Kurdish homeland?

Both are predominently Muslim countries casting a strong gaze towards the West as their future.

The Trekmedic has, in the past, called for a partition of modern Iraq, citing the parallels between it and the former Yugoslavia.

Is there something the TrekMedic is missing here??
