No "Kos" For Concern Folks, its Just Jealousy!

HT to Jasper at PAWaterCooler for the news link:

Taking a look at the stories in the Old Media will show that the Media is turning attack dog ASAP on McCain's choice for vice president, Sarah Palin. Notice the main meme is her supposed "inexperience." Funny how Palin was the VP pick for about 15 seconds before the Old Media went after her "inexperience" while they have yet to hit Barry Obama on HIS inexperience at all and he's been running for president since 2004. We should also note that Palin didn't get the honeymoon that Biden got when his announcement was made. But, the worst is yet to come and the Daily Kos is doing its level best to mine the lowest of lows. In a Kos diary today, it is being alleged that Sarah Palin "faked" the pregnancy of her last child, a baby born with Down's Syndrome. The claim is that it was her teenaged daughter's child, not hers. And, true to form, the Kossacks took that absurd calumny and hate even further in the comments.

With all the pseudo gravity the Kos diarist could muster, this ridiculous story of a "cover-up" was floated for the foolish Kossacks to lap up. Inky99 gave us the scurrilous diary headlined "Palin's faked 'pregnancy'? Covering for teen daughter?," in which the Kossacks posit that Governor Palin covered up her own teenage daughter's teen pregnancy by pretending it is her own child instead of her daughter's.

But it appears that Pallin's last child, a baby with Down's syndrome, may not be hers. It may be that of her teenage daughter. (And Inky99 can't s-p-e-l very well, either, huh? - TM251)

Actually, "it appears" in no way to be true. The diarist gives a story from the Anchorage Daily News that does not in any way prove the diarist's claim -- nor even broach the subject of a faked pregnancy, for that matter.

The Kos diarist then goes on to claim that the "proof" of this claim is that Palin's teenage daughter was sick and out of public eye for a few months earlier in the year.

Apparently her teenage daughter was out of school, unseen, for months, because she "had mono".

And, even if this story is true, why is it one worth pursuing? Why it's because Palin is pro-life, you see...

... seeing as how she's quite willing to butt into the private lives of every other American woman, I think it's fair game.

Yeah. Stay classy Daily Kos.

And the diary entry isn't the worst of it. The comments get more vicious as each one passes. Here are a few:

Commenter psilocynic posted, "Ethics violations out the ass. And she covered for her unwed prego teen! this keeps getting better! History, my dear kossacks. We are watching the death of the rethugican party!"

Next concernedamerican posted a slam on Palin's commitment to her baby. "She decided not to take maternity leave with this pregnancy!!!! What's up with that? With a special needs baby?" And then went on to accept the claims without proof saying, "Kind of hypocritical to push abstinence programs in schools and then cover up your own teenage daughter's pregnancy with a lie that you had the baby yourself, dontcha think?"

Not4bushwa also assumed it was all true merely because it was posted on DailyKos, saying: "If Palin had come clean about her daughter or if McCain had vetted her more carefully and not chosen her, this would not be a story. But she didn't and he didn't. Tough luck, poor judgment, another right-wing hypocrite scandal." And later wrote, "This is a big lie. Why the excessive secrecy? So much shame for a fairly common predicament--teenage pregnancy? I wonder: Who's the father?"

Obviously, since a Kos diarist posted this garbage story, many Kossacks will simply believe it is true despite that there is no proof at all for even a single word of the accusations.

Poster sailmaker finds Motherhood so disgusting that he can't imagine a vice president doing it, posting that his "mind boggles at the idea of a lactating VP." That's classy, isn't it?

Poster Subversive really went for the gutter with, "The only thing missing from this story is that the baby wasn't Black."

Not content just to indulge in this conspiracy theory, poster TrentinaNE really went for the black helicopters. "Maybe it's a set-up to get rid of McCain. The story(ies) about Palin come out, he looks like a doofus and withdraws from the race, the Rethugs nominate Romney. Sounds implausible, I know, but I wouldn't write off anything in Roveland."

I think someone forgot their meds that morning. What a nutcase theory that was!

These are just a few of the over-the-top posts on DailyKos concerning the lies that Palin faked her pregnancy. This is the sort of garbage we see everyday from the haters and rumormongers on extremist leftist sites like Kos and the Democratic Underground, even Huffington Post, for that matter.

The TrekMedic adds:

This is the same DailyKrud that wouldn't break l'affaire de Edwards for fear of embarrassing the Obamessiah, then banned the one blogger would did?

Nice work, Kos!

Did Someone Forget History?

Amid the pomp and circumstance, as the Obamessiah descended from Mount Olympus,...er,..I mean, Invesco Field, someone forgot about how truly historic August 28th really is.

It wasn't the history of a man who, four years earlier, gave the keynote address at the 2004 DNC (although he was quick to remind everyone how far he's come since that day).

No,..it was the 45th anniversary of the day a Baptist minister, supreme orator and unparalleled visionary, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. made his famous "I Have a Dream" speech. That speech inspired minorities and signaled a sea change in American society and politics.

But the Obamessiah was so full of himself, he forgot about the occasion.

Fortunately, there WAS someone who remembered:

YESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DAYTON, Ohio — John McCain will introduce Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his vice presidential running mate at an event here at noon Friday, senior campaign sources confirmed to FOX News.

Palin emerged earlier in the day as the hot name in the vice presidential sweepstakes after reports circulated that two short-listers — Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty — were out of the running.

Adding fuel to the Palin candidacy was a report that a charter aircraft from Anchorage owned by a McCain supporter had arrived at a small airport outside Dayton, Ohio, where McCain has scheduled a noon ET rally to announce his choice.

FOX News reported the jet flew to Flagstaff, Ariz., on Thursday before heading landing in Middletown, Ohio.

Palin is considered a rising star in the Republican Party. She is the state’s first female governor, the mother of five — and at 44 is its youngest chief executive.

The choice of Palin was kept under such tight wraps that even Palin’s mother said Friday morning that she had not yet heard from her daughter that she had been selected for the No. 2 spot on the GOP ticket.

Informed of the selection, a senior official with Barack Obama campaign questioned Palin’s executive experience, (The TrekMedic says "Pot, meet kettle, BO!)

“After making experience a central issue of the race, McCain picks, on his 72nd birthday, a person who 3 years ago was the part-time mayor of a city in Alaska with a population of about 8,000 - that’s 1/20th the size of Obama’s state Senate district. That virtually takes the experience argument off the table. She’s also complimented Obama’s energy plan and is under investigation in her own state for pressuring the firing of a relative from the state safety department,” the official said.

Earlier this month, the Anchorage Daily News reported that Palin has been under investigation after she her chief of staff, other aides and her husband had contacted the Public Safety Department about firing Palin’s brother-in-law, a state trooper who was in a custody battle with Palin’s sister. Palin said she did not know about the phone calls before they were made, but acknowledged that “such pressure could have been perceived to exist.”

Born in Idaho, Palin moved to Alaska with her parents, to Charles and Sally Heath, when she was 3 months old.

She grew up in Wasilla, just outside of Anchorage, and played on the Wasilla state championship girls’ basketball team. She was crowned Miss Wasilla in 1984 and was a runner-up in the Miss Alaska pageant.

Palin studied journalism and political science at the University of Idaho and graduated in 1987. She eloped with her high school boyfriend, Todd Palin, in 1988 to save money on an expensive wedding. She helped out in her husband’s family commercial fishing business and appeared occasionally as a television sportscaster.

Palin won a seat on the Wasilla City Council in 1992 as a new face and a new voice, and by opposing tax increases. Four years later she was elected mayor at 32 by knocking off a three-term incumbent. At the end of her second term, party leaders encouraged her to enter the 2002 race for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor. Against veteran legislators with far more experience, Palin finished second by fewer than 2,000 votes, making a name for herself in statewide politics. She was elected Alaska’s youngest and first woman governor in 2006.

Sarah and Todd Palin have five children: boys Track, 19, and Trig, 4 months, and daughters Bristol, 17, Willow, 13, and Piper, 7. Track Palin joined the Army last September and will deploy to Iraq on Sept. 11. Palin had kept her pregnancy with Trig a secret as she worked in the governor’s mansion, confirming only weeks before the birth that she was going to have a son who she knew would have Down syndrome. She returned to work in April three days after giving birth.

Palin will be the second female vice presidential candidate from a major political party. The first was New York Rep. Geraldine Ferrarro, who was Walter Mondale’s Democratic running mate in 1984.

FOX News confirmed Thursday that McCain had made his selection and would appear with his pick at the Dayton rally.

On Friday, sources told FOX News that Romney was not going to be McCain’s choice, even though the former Massachusetts governor is scheduled to appear at the Dayton rally.

And Pawlenty told a Minneapolis radio station that he was not going to be in Dayton for the McCain announcement.

“I’m going to be at the [Minnesota] state fair,” Pawlenty said on WCCO.

“I will not be in Dayton, Ohio, so I think that’s a fair assumption,” the Minnesota governor said when asked if this was an indication that he would not be McCain’s running mate.

“It was an honor to be considered,” he added.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who like Romney was a rival to McCain in the primaries, sent an e-mail to supporters on Thursday evening saying he would not be at the rally. Sources later told FOX News that Huckabee was not in the running.

The Trekmedic thinks:

This is a tremendous coup for McCain. Unlike his "experienced" opponent, McCain has picked a woman to be his VP. Palin is both a reformer and pro-lifer. A special tribute should go to RED NOVEMBER member Doug Gibbs who, early on, was a strong and tireless proponent of Mrs. Palin.

STILL the Team to Beat!

Even when spotted seven runs, the NY Mutts manage to give the division away to the Phightin' Phillies!

Phils stun Mets with improbable victory
Coste caps rally from seven runs down with walk-off in 13th
By Ken Mandel / MLB.com

PHILADELPHIA -- Forget the myriad details that preceded the final exhilarating moment when the Phillies, gasp, somehow actually won Tuesday's game, a triumphant 8-7, 13-inning win over the Mets in five hours and 17 minutes.
To the front of your memory, let the image of Chris Coste lacing a game-winning single over a drawn-in outfield -- and the mob scene that followed -- sit for the next half-day. Now realize these teams are scheduled to do this again Wednesday.

OK, breathe.

"A good game, a great game," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "A lot of things happened."

Too much to mention. Whether the retelling of Tuesday's win begins with the rally-starting double by pitcher Clay Condrey, one of the two-run homers clubbed by Ryan Howard or Jimmy Rollins, or Eric Bruntlett's game-tying double in the ninth -- made possible by the first third-base appearance by catcher Carlos Ruiz -- it's going to end with the Phillies a half-game ahead of the Mets in the National League East.

After dropping nine of the first 13 meetings to New York, the Phillies found the most painful way to climb into sole possession of first place for the first time since Aug. 12. They first fell behind, 7-0, to Pedro Martinez, who had allowed four or fewer runs in his previous five outings.

"Unbelievable," Chad Durbin said, then repeated it.

Unbelievable.

Shane Victorino led off the 13th with a triple off Scott Schoeneweis, the eighth Mets pitcher. That forced the Mets to walk the bases loaded. Pitcher Brett Myers provided some early morning comic relief, taking a bat with him to the plate under strict orders not to swing.

"That's what I told him," Manuel said. "I also told him [after], 'You can follow orders.' We thought about letting him fake a squeeze, but I told him no because Victorino might break for the plate."

Myers gesticulated, moving his arms and feet in an attempt to distract Schoeneweis. The count reached 3-2 before Myers fanned -- looking of course. Coste lofted a fly ball beyond Carlos Beltran, and the Philadelphia portion of the 45,204 fans rejoiced.

The Phillies never let up, rallying to pick up Jamie Moyer after a rare poor outing. The 45-year-old was pounded for six runs in three innings, snapping a string of 14 straight outings of allowing three runs or fewer.

Philadelphia broke through with a run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly, then pounded out four in the fifth -- on two-run home runs by Howard and Rollins, one of his career-high-tying five hits.

Condrey preceded Rollins' homer with a broken-bat double down the left-field line.

"I think the bat was broken two pitches before," Condrey said. "I hit a fly ball off the end, and it had a mark. I checked it, but what do I know? It sounded fine. I need to look at the tape and see exactly where I hit it. It felt like I hit it pretty good."

After a pause, Condrey added, "I like to think I was the inspiration behind the rally, but I doubt that's the case."

Then again?

"I don't think there's any question he kicked off the run-scoring barrage," said Coste, who entered the game in the eighth and had four hits. "That kind of kicked us in the butt. If the pitcher can double off Pedro Martinez, then why isn't anybody else getting hits? That jokingly is the way it felt."

There was more. Rollins, who stoked the ire of Mets fans by proclaiming the Phillies as the "team to beat" in 2007, and continues to be the lightning rod for the rivalry, suggested that Phillies players noticed some Mets celebrating a bit too much when they ran their lead to 7-0.

Fernando Tatis danced before touching home plate following a three-run homer off Moyer, and Rollins suggested that he and some teammates noticed some Mets carrying on in the dugout. Add that to a still-fresh memory of Jose Reyes wagging his finger after hitting a big July 23 home run, and call it motivation.

"The other team gives you inspiration, let's put it that way," Rollins said. "We were able to take that and keep ourselves motivated. You're looking over in that other dugout, you feel a certain type of way. You try to find something on any team, but especially these guys."

"Those guys" gave up a seven-run lead, and may have given the Phillies a major push needed to win the NL East.

We now interrupt this game story for a flashback to Aug. 30, 2007, in Philadelphia. The Phillies rallied for an 11-10 win against the Mets. Though not by itself, that win capped a four-game sweep and showed the Phillies that the division could be had.

The Mets stopped scoring after the fourth inning, and the Phillies never stopped.

"If we go on to win the division, this will be the game to look back on," Coste said. "Whether we won this game or lost it, it wasn't going to make or break the year, but the way in which we won it reinforces the fact that the Phillies are never out of the game, regardless of the score."

Biden His Time, Or,..D'oh-Bama Throws in the Towel!

Barack Obama is preparing to appear on stage Saturday afternoon with his running mate for the first time after announcing early in the morning that he had picked Delaware Sen. Joe Biden for the second spot on the Democratic presidential ticket.

The announcement ended days of frenzied speculation about who his vice president pick would be, with Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine and Indiana Senator Evan Bayh remaining strong contenders as late as Friday evening.

Hillary Clinton, Obama’s close rival throughout the Democratic primaries, also had been in the running for a spot on the ticket. She was not considered a leading candidate for the job, though Obama’s campaign still may need to overcome the lingering bitterness some of her supporters feel over the tenor and outcome of the primary race to court them in the general election.

Sen. Clinton was among the first to applaud Obama on Saturday for his choice.

“In naming my colleague and friend Senator Joe Biden to be the Vice Presidential nominee, Senator Obama has continued in the best traditions for the vice presidency by selecting an exceptionally strong, experienced leader and devoted public servant,” Clinton said in a written statement. “Senator Biden will be a purposeful and dynamic vice president who will help Senator Obama both win the Presidency and govern this great country.”

Former Clinton Communications Director and FOX News contributor Howard Wolfson said that, after Clinton, he thought Biden was “the best possible pick that Barack Obama could have made.”

“I think he brings a wealth of experience and he is a great campaigner and I think he is a very fine pick,” Wolfson told FOX News on Saturday.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid also expressed strong support for Biden.

“Joe Biden has been fighting his entire career for the change that Sen. Obama champions,” Reid said in a written statement. “He is a dedicated family man who has been an effective chairman of both the Foreign Affairs and Judiciary Committees, has been a sage voice on many of the toughest foreign policy issues of our time, and has long been a strong advocate for protecting American families and making our communities safer.”

Meanwhile, John McCain, Obama’s Republican rival for the presidency, plans to call Biden sometime Saturday today to congratulate his long-time senate colleague on his placement on the opposing ticket, a McCain aide told FOX News.

Biden, 65, has twice sought the White House, and is a Catholic with blue-collar roots, a generally liberal voting record and a reputation as a long-winded orator.

Across more than 30 years in the Senate, he has served at various times not only as chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee but also as head of the Judiciary Committee, with its jurisdiction over anti-crime legislation, Supreme Court nominees and Constitutional issues.

Obama’s pick balances his ticket with a seasoned congressional veteran well-versed in foreign policy and defense issues. The campaign made the announcement on its Web site with a photo of the two men and an appeal for donations. A text message went out shortly afterward that said, “Barack has chosen Senator Joe Biden to be our VP nominee.”

The two are scheduled to appear at 2 p.m. CDT in Springfield, Ill., outside the Old State Capital.

No sooner had word spread of his selection than McCain’s campaign unleashed its first attack. Spokesman Ben Porritt said in a statement that Biden had “denounced Barack Obama’s poor foreign policy judgment and has strongly argued in his own words what Americans are quickly realizing — that Barack Obama is not ready to be president.”

As evidence, Republicans cited an ABC interview from August 2007, in which Biden said he would stand by an earlier statement that Obama was not ready to serve as president.

Obama’s decision leaked to the media several hours before his aides planned to send a text message announcing the running mate, negating a promise that people who turned over their phone numbers would be the first to know who Obama had chosen. The campaign scrambled to send the text message after the leak, sending phones buzzing at the inconvenient time of just after 3 a.m. on the East coast.

Biden slowly emerged as Obama’s choice across a long day and night of political suspense as other contenders gradually fell away.

Several aides to Clinton said the Obama campaign had never requested financial or other records from her. In addition to Kaine and Bayh, other finalists in the veep sweepstakes were Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and Texas Rep. Chet Edwards.

Among those on the short list, Biden brought the most experience in defense or foreign policy — areas in which Obama fares relatively poorly in the polls compared with Republican Sen. John McCain.

While the war in Iraq has been supplanted as the campaign’s top issues by the economy in recent months, the recent Russian invasion of Georgia has returned foreign policy to the forefront.

In addition to foreign policy experience, Biden, a native of Scranton, Pa., has working-class roots that could benefit Obama, who lost the blue-collar vote to Clinton during their competition for the presidential nomination.

Biden was elected to the Senate at the age of 29 in 1972, but personal tragedy struck before he could take office. His wife and their 13-month-old daughter, Naomi, were killed when a tractor-trailer broad-sided her station wagon.

Biden took his oath of office for his first term at the hospital bedside of one of his sons.

Biden is seeking a new Senate term in the fall. There was no immediate word whether he intended to change plans as he reaches for national office.

“For Obama supporters, this is like finding out from your neighbor instead of your sister that she’s engaged — not how you want or expect the news to be delivered,” Silberman said.

Biden dropped out of the 2008 race for the Democratic presidential nomination after a poor finish in the Iowa caucuses, but not before he talked dismissively of joining someone else’s ticket.

“I am not running for vice president,” he told FOX News in an August 2007 interview. “I would not accept it if anyone offered it to me. The fact of the matter is I’d rather stay as chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee than be vice president.”

He had stumbled on his first day in the race, apologizing for having described Obama as “clean.” Months later, Obama spoke up on Biden’s defense, praising him during a campaign debate for having worked for racial equality.

It was Biden’s second try for the White House. The first ended badly in 1988 when he was caught lifting lines from a speech by British Labor Party leader Neil Kinnock.

In the decades since, he become a power in the Senate, presiding over confirmation proceedings for Supreme Court nominees as well as convening hearings to criticize President Bush’s handling of the Iraq War.

Biden voted to authorize the war, but long ago became one of the Senate’s surest critics of the conflict. Ironically, perhaps, his son, Beau, attorney general of Delaware, is due to spend a tour of duty in Iraq beginning this fall with his National Guard unit.

Obama worked to keep his choice secret, although he addressed the issue broadly during the day in an interview.

“Obviously, the most important question is: Is this person ready to be president?” Obama told “The Early Show” on CBS. Second, he said, was: “Can this person help me govern? Are they going to be an effective partner in creating the kind of economic opportunity here at home and guiding us through some dangerous waters internationally?”

And, he added: “I want somebody who is going to be able to challenge my thinking and not simply be a yes person when it comes to policymaking.

AP: Biden choice demonstrates lack of confidence; Update: Plagiarism flashbacks
posted at 8:20 am on August 23, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

Ron Fournier makes the obvious analysis with Barack Obama’s selection of Joe Biden as running mate. The AP’s political analyst says the move acknowledges Obama’s weakness in experience and foreign policy, and shows the pressure coming from Democrats worried about losing the election:

In picking Sen. Joe Biden to be his running mate, Barack Obama sought to shore up his weakness — inexperience in office and on foreign policy — rather than underscore his strength as a new-generation candidate defying political conventions.

He picked a 35-year veteran of the Senate — the ultimate insider — rather than a candidate from outside Washington, such as Govs. Tim Kaine of Virginia or Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas; or from outside his party, such as Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska; or from outside the mostly white male club of vice presidential candidates. Hillary Rodham Clinton didn’t even make his short list.

The picks say something profound about Obama: For all his self-confidence, the 47-year-old Illinois senator worried that he couldn’t beat Republican John McCain without help from a seasoned politician willing to attack. The Biden pick is the next logistical step in an Obama campaign that has become more negative — a strategic decision that may be necessary but threatens to run counter to his image.

It’s an admission that Obama’s inexperience has finally begun worrying voters, and not just Democratic power brokers. There really is no other way to see an addition of Biden to the ticket. Obama can’t be worried about carrying Delaware, after all; it’s as safe a state that Democrats have. Nor does Biden have a natural national constituency, as his own flop of a presidential campaign proved this cycle.

The Biden choice is an act of desperation borne of a summer-long catastrophe. There isn’t any other reason for Obama to choose a 35-year veteran of the Senate with as long a history of gaffes and flat-out dishonesty as his second on the campaign for Hope and Change. In fact, I can’t wait for writers to twist themselves into knots to avoid the cardinal sin of writing, plagiarism, which Biden committed more than once, as Jim Geraghty recounted in 2003:

“Much like Gary Hart, he’s identified more with the party’s presidential past than its present or future,” said political scientist Larry Sabato, a professor at the University of Virginia. “He was, after all, forced out by a mini-scandal which would come up again.”

In 1987, Biden quit the Democratic primary race early after the revelation that he had delivered, without attribution, passages from a speech by British Labor party leader Neil Kinnock. A barrage of subsidiary revelations by the press also hammered Biden’s image: a serious plagiarism incident from his law-school years, boastful exaggerations of his academic record at a New Hampshire campaign event, and the discovery of other quotations in Biden’s speeches pilfered from past Democratic politicians.

Now Obama, who supposedly represents a new brand of politics, has instead hitched his wagon to an old-time pol who has trouble coming up with his own words when he campaigns. That’s desperation, and what’s more, it’s obvious desperation. And in politics, just as in dating, desperation is not an aphrodisiac.

Muslim father burns Christian daughter alive
Man slices out girl's tongue, ignites her after 'heated debate on religion'

A Saudi Arabian Muslim father cut out his daughter's tongue and lit her on fire upon learning that she had become a Christian.

The child became curious about Jesus Christ after she read Christian material online, the Gulf News reported.

Her father read of her Internet conversation, detached her tongue and burned her to death "following a heated debate on religion," according to an International Christian Concern report.

The father is employed by the muwateen, or Commission for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice. The muwateen are police tasked by the government with enforcing religious purity. The man has been taken into custody, and his identity has not been released.

The ICC pointed out the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom has reported textbooks at the Saudi Arabian government school in Northern Virginia teach, "It is permissible for a Muslim to kill an apostate (a convert from Islam)."

Saudi Arabian oil money is used to export Wahabbism – a version of Islam said to be least tolerant toward non-Muslims – to other nations, including the U.S., ICC notes.

ICC president Jeff King said, "Saudi Arabia has to treat Christians with the same respect that it wants Muslims to be treated in other countries. It has to stop exporting hate and persecution against Christians in other countries."

Sovereignty is Not Made of Kryptonite

HT To Tony Phyrillas for this excellent post:

Sovereignty is not made of kryptonite. In other words, you cannot hide behind it and expect it to stop bullets. Sovereignty is a concept that makes sense to great powers. Small states haven't a chance in hell of upholding their sovereignty unless they have an ace up their sleeve. This normally comes in the form of patronage from one of the great powers, and even that is not foolproof. Unfortunately for the Georgians, like naive upstarts, they bought the empty promises of the Bush administration.

I'm going to slightly disagree here. While it sucks to have Russian troops walk all over you, Georgian President Saakhashvili is not a saint, either. His biggest mistake wasn't buying into empty promises so much as mistaking the United States' support for having his back, then picking a fight with the biggest bully on the block and realizing we aren't there.

Russia is actively seeking to restart the Cold War and that means 100 little proxy battles like the Georgian affair will ignite across the planet for the next generation. They may be the first, but they won't be the last.

In Case You Think You've Got It Bad in America,...

Like the Liberals would have you believe:

Captain America posts this - originally credited to Jay Leno, but debunked by Snopes:

As most of you know I am not a President Bush fan, nor have I ever been, but this is not about Bush, it is about us, as Americans, and it seems to hit the mark.

'The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came across some Poll data I found rather hard to believe. It must be true given the source, right?

The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed and 69 percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of the President. In essence 2/3 of the citizenry just ain't happy and want a change. So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, 'What are we so unhappy about?''

A.. Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 Days a week?

B.. Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter?

C. Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job?

D.. Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year?

E.. Maybe it is the ability to drive our cars and trucks from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through each state?

F.. Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter?

G.. I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not good enough either.

H. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all and even send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.

I.. Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home.

J.. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames, thus saving you, your family, and your belongings.

K.. Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss.

L.. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs or militias raping and pillaging the residents. Neighborhoods where 90% of teenagers own cell phones and computers.

M.. How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world?

Maybe that is what has 67% of you folks unhappy.

Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves the U.S. , yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don't have, and what we hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here.

I know, I know. What about the president who took us into war and has no plan to get us out? The president who has a measly 31 percent approval rating? Is this the same president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11? The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession? Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks? The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me?

Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or talk show? Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy you couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all the good things and be glad? Think about it......are you upset at the President because he actually caused you personal pain OR is it because the 'Media' told you he was failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every day. Make no mistake about it.

The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom. There is currently no draft in this country. They didn't have to go. They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ''general'' discharge, an 'other than honorable'' discharge or, worst case scenario, a ''dishonorable'' discharge after a few days in the brig.

So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of Americans?

Say what you want but I blame it on the media. If it bleeds it leads and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts. How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner? The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations. They offer what sells, and when criticized, try to defend their actions by 'justifying' them in one way or another. Just ask why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J. Simpson to write a book about how he didn't kill his wife, but if he did he would have done it this way......Insane!

Turn off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for the bottom of your bird cage. Then start being grateful for all we have as country. There is exponentially more good than bad. We are among the most blessed people on Earth and should thank God several times a day, or at least be thankful and appreciative.' 'With hurricanes, tornadoes, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, 'Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'

Jay Leno

You Can't Make This S**t Up, Folks!

SYDNEY, Australia — The mayor of a male-heavy mining town in Australia created uproar among local women over the weekend by inviting "beauty-disadvantaged" women to join the population of lonely men.

Mayor John Molony found himself under attack Monday over comments he made to a local newspaper that read: "May I suggest if there are five blokes to every girl, we should find out where there are beauty-disadvantaged women and ask them to proceed to Mount Isa."

The mayor added that many women who already live in the remote Queensland state town seem quite happy.

"Quite often you will see walking down the street a lass who is not so attractive with a wide smile on her face," he continued. "Whether it is recollection of something previous or anticipation for the next evening, there is a degree of happiness."

The quotes, published Saturday in the Townsville Bulletin, sparked outrage among the town's female population, led to furious online debates and drew criticism from the local chamber of commerce.

"There's a lot of anger circulating among the community at the moment — a lot of passionate anger," Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce manager Patricia O'Callaghan said Monday. "There's a lot of women voicing their opinions."

Molony declined to elaborate on his comments Monday except to say they were "twisted and warped" by the newspaper.

"I've been shredded," he added, before hanging up the phone.

The situation may not be quite as dire as Molony noted. According to the 2006 census, males made up 52.6 percent of the town's population of nearly 20,000.

Local women, enraged by the mayor's comments, protested Monday, saying there aren't a lot of gems to be found among Mount Isa's men, either.

"We want an apology," local woman Rikki Loccisano told the Brisbane Times.

Atlanta Isn't in Georgia,....

But the Russians still are!

Russia has placed short range SS-21 missiles in South Ossetia, that could pose a threat to most major Georgian cities," including the capital, Tbilisi, a U.S.Defense official confirmed to FOX News on Monday.

"Anything such as that, or any other military equipment that was moved in would be in violation of this cease-fire and should be removed immediately," Pentagon Spokesman Bryan Whitman said. "The only forces that are permitted to remain under the cease fire agreement are the forces that were in there at the Aug. 6 time frame."

This news came as Russia's deputy chief of staff insists that Russian troops were pulling out of the breakaway region. However, there have been no confirmed signs of a withdrawal.

The TrekMedic puffs his chest out an bellows:

Man up, Pussy,..I mean, Putin, and LEAVE while you still can! You started this mess, but we have the means to end it.

Does DNC Want Cheese for That Whine?

Obama gets pwned by McCain and this is what the campaign drags down to:

John McCain’s campaign is accusing NBC’s Andrea Mitchell of parroting unsubstantiated claims by Barack Obama’s campaign that McCain “cheated” in Saturday’s presidential forum.

Rick Davis, McCain’s campaign manager, is demanding a meeting with NBC News president Steve Capus to complain about Mitchell’s comments on Sunday’s “Meet the Press.” The reporter gave voice to what she described as grumblings from the Obama camp that McCain secretly listened in on the Rev. Rick Warren’s questions to Obama, knowing that Warren planned to pose the same questions to McCain.

“The Obama people must feel that he didn’t do quite as well as they might have wanted to in that context, because what they are putting out privately is that McCain may not have been in the cone of silence and may have had some ability to overhear what the questions were to Obama,” Mitchell said. “He seemed so well-prepared.”

That prompted Davis to fire off an angry letter to Capus on Sunday.

“The level of objectivity at NBC News has fallen so low that reporters are now giving voice to unsubstantiated, partisan claims in order to undercut John McCain,” Davis fumed. “Mitchell did what has become a pattern for her of simply repeating Obama campaign talking points.”

During the televised forum broadcast from Saddleback Church in Orange County, Calif., Warren told viewers that McCain would be in a “cone of silence” during the questioning of Obama. Davis confirmed that “McCain was in a motorcade to the event and then held in a green room with no broadcast feed.”

“Mitchell is repeating, uncritically, a completely unsubstantiated Obama campaign claim that John McCain somehow cheated,” Davis wrote. “Instead of trying to substantiate this blatant falsehood in any way, Andrea Mitchell felt that she needed to repeat it on air to millions.”

Meanwhile, Warren told FOX News Radio that the allegations that McCain heard Obama’s questions ahead of time were “total bogus.”

“Cone of silence is a silly term I used from Maxwell Smart,” Warren said. “We had him a green room in a totally different building. Somebody said there was a monitor in that room, yeah, but it was disconnected at the source. If he’d tried to turn it on, all he’d have gotten was fuzz, because it wasn’t even connected. So the Secret Service picked him up, brought him straight to that room, put him in that building. Somebody is systematically calling up all the media the media and trying to create, I dont know, I guess they didn’t like the format or whatever. ”

Click here to watch video from the Saddleback Church forum.

FOX News asked the Obama campaign whether it suspected that McCain somehow listened in on the Warren-Obama exchange.

“We as a campaign have not said anything about it, though the McCain folks do seem pretty sensitive on the point,” said Obama spokesman Bill Burton. “Obama went. He spoke. We appreciated the opportunity.”

Mitchell could not be reached for comment. Last month, conservatives accused her of bias when she criticized a McCain TV ad that went after Obama for canceling a scheduled visit to a U.S. military hospital in Germany.

“He made time to go to the gym, but canceled a visit with wounded troops,” the ad said. “Seems the Pentagon wouldn’t allow him to bring cameras.”

“That literally is not true,” Mitchell said on MSNBC. “Obama had no intention of bringing any cameras with him. I was there. I can vouch for that.”

She added: “It just seems inexplicable that this whole thing has been such an issue. But clearly the McCain campaign wants this to be an issue, wants to paint him as someone who’s unfeeling about the troops.”

The TrekMedic shouts:

Hey, D'oh-bama: cheaters never win and winners never cheat. I learned that in grade school. What's that? Oh, yeah, you were in a madrassa back then and probably never heard of that phrase.

Google Strikes Again!

HT to gunservatively for bringing this to the local forefront:

New blog Joel Rosenberg
August 15th, 2008 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Joel C Rosenberg, Latest News

Here is what I found on the internet.

NOTE: For reasons that are not yet clear, my previous weblog site was blocked by the host service on Friday, August 8th, preventing me from posting any new articles all week. It remains blocked, as of this writing. Thus, I have launched a new site for all new articles. Previous posts remain archived and searchable. Thanks so much for your patience and your prayers. — JCR

So here is the link to his new blog. Joel C. Rosenberg
He will for sure continue to write great articles about the situation in the Middle East. The press calls him the next Nostradamus. Especially for Christians a must read. Everyone interested in Israel, Christianity, end times and the Middle East should read his blog.
You can still read all his articles published before 8-8-8 here.

Frequent readers of Is This Life? will remember that last month, Google started blocking anti-Obama blogs.

Google later blamed the debacle on "security loopholes" allowing pro-Obamanurists the take advantage of Blogger's tab to report objectionable content.

Google states the problems have been cleared up,..but we know Google has a long history of capitulating to leftist governments and organizations, like MoveOn.org.

The American Thinker has more on this growing concern.

NEW YORK - BET starts a weekly news program tonight described as a cross between Keith Olbermann and Bill Maher with a black perspective.

Called The Truth With Jeff Johnson, the program, telecast at 11 p.m. Fridays, stars a BET personality who has also been an activist for the NAACP and People for the American Way. Its debut is timed for the Democratic National Convention.

BET, the most-watched network aimed at blacks, will also show Barack Obama's speech accepting the Democratic presidential nomination live on Aug. 28, as will its competitor TV One; neither will show John McCain's acceptance at the Republican convention the next week.

Obama Introduces Pot to Kettle Again!

HONOLULU - Barack Obama is hitting back at the author of "The Obama Nation," the book that argues he is a dangerous, radical candidate for president.

The Obama campaign has written a 40-page rebuttal that criticizes author Jerome Corsi as "a discredited, fringe bigot" and his book as "rehashed lies."

The book is a compilation of all the allegations and innuendo against Obama - that he was raised a Muslim, attended a radical, black church and secretly has a black rage hidden beneath the surface.

Obama's rebuttal is titled "Unfit For Publication" and is set to be posted on the Obama campaign's rumour-fighting website, FightTheSmears.com.

The TrekMedic smirks:

"Fringe bigot?"

Not that the Obamessiah has EVER encountered someone like that before, right?

Sic Transit Gloria,....

Amazing when you let a solution to high fuel prices organically occur:

More frequent buses. Late-night trains. Better weekend service.

That's what SEPTA promises in the next few weeks and months as it launches what it calls its most ambitious service expansion ever.

After decades of cuts, SEPTA will announce today a $10 million project aimed at easing overcrowding and improving daily service. The first of the 65 upgrades will begin Aug. 25, and all of the changes are to be made by Nov. 3.

The changes will include bigger buses on busy Route 14 along Roosevelt Boulevard between Northeast Philadelphia and Bucks County, more frequent service on Route 23 between Chestnut Hill and South Philadelphia, and after-midnight trains on the R5 Paoli/Thorndale, R6 Norristown, and R7 Trenton Regional Rail lines.

"This is really unprecedented for us," SEPTA general manager Joseph Casey said. "We need to respond to increased ridership and other customer needs."

With commuters reacting to higher gasoline prices and switching from cars to public transit, SEPTA's ridership has increased by about 6 percent, or 38,000 trips a day, from a year ago. Rail ridership is up 12 percent, to its highest point in 25 years, and many rush-hour trains are packed with standing passengers.

"It's been getting pretty crowded" on his daily commute, Rico Paolino of Horsham said yesterday as he waited for an R5 train at Suburban Station. When he catches his usual 6:30 a.m. train in Ambler, "you may not get a seat."

The new bus service is made possible by the arrival of the first 40 of more than 400 hybrid diesel-electric buses to be delivered over the next four years.

New rail cars also have been ordered, but the first of the 120 Silverliner V cars are not likely to be in service until 2010. In the meantime, eight used rail cars bought from NJ Transit will be added to SEPTA's fleet by October to help ease overcrowding.

SEPTA will tout its improved service with a $1 million advertising campaign on TV, newspapers and radio, and it will pitch its late-night service to college students with whimsical ads on bar coasters, coffee-cup sleeves, and Internet banners.

The chance to add service is a big change for SEPTA after decades of route cutbacks, "doomsday scenarios," and higher fares. After lowering riders' expectations for years, SEPTA officials acknowledged the challenges they face in offering more to passengers.

"Certainly, there is a risk," said Pat Nowakowski, assistant general manager for operations. "We will create expectations, and we have to work to make sure we meet them."

It's Because "Bush Lied," Of Course,....

Associated Press

BAGHDAD - Jordan's King Abdullah II held talks yesterday with Iraq's prime minister after coming to Baghdad on an unannounced visit, the first by an Arab head of state since the U.S.-led invasion toppled Saddam Hussein in 2003.

Abdullah called on Arab governments to "extend their hand to Iraq" because a strong Iraq "is a source of strength for the Arab nation," according to a statement released by the royal palace in the Jordanian capital of Amman.

An Iraqi government statement said Abdullah had "frank and positive talks" with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on relations between the two countries. Al-Maliki told the king that Iraq wanted to improve ties with all Arab countries, the statement said.

In turn, Abdullah expressed Jordan's support for Iraqi "efforts to impose stability," the statement added.

Ties between the two neighboring countries had been strained since the fall of Saddam because of Jordanian fears that Iraq's Shiite-led government was too friendly with Shiite-dominated Iran.

But U.S. officials had been urging Abdullah to visit Iraq to bolster ties between the two countries as part of Washington's campaign to shore up support for the Iraqi government as a counterweight to Iranian influence.

Al-Maliki visited Jordan in June for the first time in nearly two years, and since then, the two nations appear willing to put their differences behind them. During that visit, al-Maliki agreed to renew oil supplies to Jordan for the next three years at discounted prices.

Jordan agreed to ease restrictions on the entry of Iraqi students and those transiting to a third country. Tens of thousands of Iraqis have sought refuge in Jordan to escape the sectarian violence that swept the country two years ago but has receded.

Jordan has also named an ambassador to Iraq, joining other Arab countries that have agreed to upgrade their relations as the Iraqi government becomes more stable and security has improved - despite sporadic attacks and ongoing military operations.

Iraqi officials have been eager to improve their ties with their Arab neighbors now that the government's confidence has risen with improvements in security.

Yesterday, about 250 Iraqi refugees were flown home from Egypt free of charge aboard the prime minister's personal plane in what Iraqi officials said was an affirmation of improved security.

The TrekMedic muses:

So, a moderate Arab ruler extends the hand of friendship to a stable Iraqi government and...oh, yeah, gets something from them that he needs: cheap oil! Not American oil, but Iraqi oil!! And Iraq is making money off of it's exports again. I believe some people would call that "capitalism." I could be wrong. After all, we all know Bush lied to start this war and make money for his "oil buddies" here in the US, right??

Only in Philly,...Who's Zoomin' Who?

PHILADELPHIA - The parents charged in the starvation death of their bedridden daughter have sued the city, alleging that dangerous and reckless actions by several municipal employees and contract workers contributed to the girl's death.

The lawsuit outraged prosecutors, who have charged Andrea Kelly, 39, with murder in the death of 14-year-old Danieal Kelly, who had cerebral palsy and died two years ago from malnutrition and maggot-infested bedsores.

Danieal's father, Daniel Kelly of Darby, did not live with the girl but is charged with child endangerment.

The wrongful death suit, filed earlier this month, seeks reimbursement for medical bills, funeral costs and other expenses.

Lawyers said they filed the suit to protect the interests of the victim's siblings.

"The parents are not seeking any money from this," attorney Brian Mildenberg said. "The potential beneficiaries are the brothers and sisters and the parents, but the parents may be disqualified by a conviction or a civil finding of abandonment."

Prosecutors were angered.

"I think it's an obscenity. I cannot imagine that people in that situation who did what they did to their own daughter are attempting to profit from it," Assistant District Attorney Ed McCann, head of the city's homicide unit, told the Philadelphia Daily News.

Defendants include the city Department of Human Services, the state Department of Public Welfare, a behavioral health contractor and two now-fired city caseworkers who have been criminally charged in the case.

It was not immediately clear if the lawsuit was on behalf of all nine of Danieal's siblings. A separate suit filed on behalf of her oldest sibling, 19-year-old Troy Washington, names similar defendants and claims he suffered "substantial mental pain" from his sister's death.

Just how dire are things over at the Inky? August 11

Filed under Cities - Philadelphia, Media by LisaMossie

Maybe this will give you a hint:

Members of the Teamsters union working at Philadelphia Media Holdings LLC, the parent company of the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News newspapers, have voted to forego a $25-a week raise they were set to receive on beginning September 1st in an effort to help preserve their jobs.

Newspapers nationwide have been afflicted with declining circulation and revenue and the union is the first of the media company’s 11 unions to take such action. The 10 other unions would have to approve the measure for it to become a reality…

Teamsters voting against a pay raise. Need I say more?

The Truth? You Can't HANDLE the Truth!

Apparently, that's the motto of the Daily Kos-monauts.

Lee Stranahan, an Obama supporter and self-admitting liberal, had the AUDACITY to HOPE that some CHANGE could occur in his party by bringing John Edward's "Slick Willie" moment to light last week. (You can't find it on Kos' site anymore,....hmm,..not that I'll link to it and give that liberal prick a free pass on my blog!))

The result?

Mr. Stranahan has been BANNED! SHUNNED! OSTRACIZED! by the minions of the Kos-mosphere!

To wit:

Massive Fail: Stranahan On How DKos Got Edwards Wrong
by pipsuqeak99
Sat Aug 09, 2008 at 08:24:10 AM PDT

Hi there. This is Lee Stranahan writing - I'm using my friend Alan Bernhoft's account to leave this message here. Thanks to everyone who's said nice things in the past few days. I've been reading and I appreciate it.

A few notes on the events that lead to my being banned. A lot of people have said in comments that I was banned because there 'wasn't a shred of evidence!' and many are still saying that.

That's not the case - there was evidence. The reason I was right and they were wrong is that they choose to ignore that evidence and I didn't. And I mean 'ignore' quite literally - they made a decision to not even look at the evidence based solely on it's source.

And despite the efforts of some rogue elements in the Kos-mosphere to bring Stranahn back:

Should Stranahan's account be re-instated?
by jenontheshore
Fri Aug 08, 2008 at 12:50:19 PM PDT

Stranahan began writing about the Edwards affair about two weeks ago.

After seeing a few of his diaries, all of which quickly filled up with comments damning him to hell, I got curious enough to click on his links to the various deconstructions of the story. What I found convinced me that he was right. That there was enough evidence to conclude that more likely than not, Edwards had had an affair and was caught at the hotel of Rielle Hunter. (Edwards now admits that he WAS at the hotel and the National Enquirer story was correct.)

Meanwhile, Stranahan was hide-rated into oblivion, all without any kind of justification for it. And eventually, he was banned from the site.

I thought that was really wrong. Even if he HADN'T been vindicated, I would think it was wrong. And now that there is no more doubt that he was telling the truth, I think every effort should be made to re-instate his account.

This news is shitty. I keep feeling terrible for Elizabeth, grateful that Edwards didn't win Iowa or get named as the VP, incredulous that he would behave so dishonorably AND...sad that Stranahan lost his account over it.

Will you join me in trying to get it back?

(As of this writing the poll, with 153 votes, stands at 81% in favor of reinstating Stranahan's posting privileges)

Stranahan is still persona non grata at the Mecca of the Mislead.

Imagine that, huh? Silencing the voice of dissent within your own camp? Isn't that what they did back when Russia was a SOCIALIST Republic?

Remember this come November, folks,....you could be next!

Police officer on the streets, but apparently told not to enforce publicly nudity or indecency rules, during the recent "Up Your Alley" homosexual festival

Nude men engaged in multiple instances of public sex on a municipal street while police officers, on foot and bicycle, congregated nearby making no attempt to enforce public indecency regulations, according to a report on the latest homosexual-fest in San Francisco.

The behavior was documented in photographs of an event called "Up Your Alley," which is sponsored by the same group that organizes the city's fall "gay"-fest, the Folsom Street Fair, on which WND has reported.

"Consider how liberal government authorities like Mayor [Gavin] Newsom have corrupted the men in blue by stipulating that police not prosecute public nudity and indecency at homosexual festivals," said a report from Americans for Truth on the graphic activities documented at the event.

"What honor can there be in protecting the public practice of heinous perversions and nudity in the city's streets? The shame of pandering politicians is transferred to the cops who were intended to be guardians of the law and public order," said the organizer's chief, Peter LaBarbera.
