Don't Let the Door Hit You in the $15M Ass,...

After months of speculation that she would leave CBS News at the end of her contract, Katie Couric confirmed Tuesday she would indeed be stepping away from the anchor's chair.

"I have decided to step down from the 'CBS Evening News'," Couric told People.com. "I'm really proud of the talented team on the 'CBS Evening News' and the award-winning work we've been able to do in the past five years."

Though the 54-year-old is staying mum on her future plans, she has hinted she would like to develop her own syndicated talk show because of "the creative freedom to pick subjects, to really dig deep, to have a smart, intelligent conversation (and ambush a real woman and threat like Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachmann)... it might be nice to have a little more wiggle room to show my personality," she said during a "Today" show interview earlier in April.

ABC News is also said to be wooing Couric with an offer of specials, conventions and "everything but the 'Evening News,'" according to The Daily.

"They are offering her the keys to the castle. It won't leave much for Diane Sawyer, Barbara Walters and Christiane Amanpour," the source said.

The salary offer from ABC was said to be far less than the $15 million Couric currently takes home for her duties at CBS. (Imagine how many quality shows CeeBS could have funded on that dime??)

Couric gained national attention when she became co-host of NBC's "Today" show in 1991.

She left the popular morning show in 2006 for CBS, becoming the first woman to serve as anchor for a nightly network news

Though her ascent to the anchor's chair gained considerable press, the CBS news show failed to jump in the ratings during her tenure.

Are We Living in the Golden Age of the Crimson Tide?

First, liberal scum were flushed from Congress, now we see huge cracks in the walls of the Fourth Estate!

MSNBC host Keith Olbermann announced Friday that he is leaving the network and has taped his last "Countdown" show.

MSNBC issued a statement that it had ended its contract with the controversial host, with no further explanation. Olbermann hosted the network's most popular show, but his combative liberal opinions often made him a target of critics.

Olbermann did not explain why he was leaving.

"MSNBC thanks Keith for his integral role in MSNBC's success and we wish him well in his future endeavors," the network said. (That's corporate-speak for "Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!")

A spokesman said Phil Griffin, MSNBC's president, would not comment on Olbermann's exit. (That's corporate-speak for "our lawyers had to explain 'libel' to me one time too many.")

STILL Fiddling While Rome Burns??

Call me crazy, but I see a pattern here:

Though his agency was charged with coordinating the federal response to the major oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Department of the Interior chief of staff Tom Strickland was in the Grand Canyon with his wife last week participating in activities that included white-water rafting, ABC News has learned.

Other leaders of the Interior Department were focused on the Gulf, joined by other agencies and literally thousands of other employees. But Strickland’s participation in a trip that administration officials insisted was “work-focused” raised eyebrows among other Obama administration officials and even within even his own department, sources told ABC News.

Strickland, who also serves as Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks, was in the Grand Canyon with his wife Beth for a total of three days, including one day of rafting.

Obama’s top counterterror official kept skiing after Christmas bomb attempt

But the MSM insists this is not the Obamessiah's Katrina moment. Why? Because hundreds of poor, black Democrats aren't dying because of the actions of another dumb, black Democrat (the last time is was Mayor "Chocolate Town")!

A Remembrance of CHRISTmas Past,....

Imagine this: Scripture on television! Not ETWN, not CBN, nor the 700 Club, but on national, commercial TV. It didn't need to pass through 20 ACLU lawyers and the Supreme Court to be aired. Hundreds of sponsors weren't threatened with boycotts by simple-minded Hollyweird "celebs" and Leftifornian soccer moms. A simple 1 1/2 minutes of stating the obvious and moving along with the show.

And the Healthcare Rationing Has Already Begun

Creeping in on little cat's feet, comes the first acknowledgment of medical rationing from the Obamessiah's unofficial Surgeon General:

We're now on the same playing fields as European Health models??

1900 screenings to save 1 life??

And THIS coming from the queen of medical objectivity, huh??

How Did THIS Get Past the MSM Censors??

Who needs Glenn Beck? Score a victory for the media-infiltrating right:

There's a lot to love about ABC's remake of "V," from the re-emergence of everyone's favorite "Firefly" companion (Morena Baccarin) to the amped-up special effects, but the show's political underpinnings seem designed to appeal to a pretty specific crowd.

Like its "Beastmaster"-aided predecessor, this "V" also contains heavy doses of political allegory, but in the original, the villains were analogous to the Nazis. Although ABC downplays the connections, in this update, the alien visitors share a lot in common with the Obama administration. Many town hall protesters might ask what the difference is.

Check out the parallels between the new "V" series and a right-wing fever dream, and see an extended preview of the first episode.

1. The aliens come to Earth using Obama-campaign watchwords hope and change, and offer the most literal form of universal health care. Aided by a complicit news media, they assuage rabid protesters through a sweet-talking figurehead. Skeptics try to warn everyone of the impending danger, but nobody listens.

2. Of course, the most striking comparison is that, while many Obama opponents are sure he's concealing an alien birth certificate, the seemingly benevolent V's are pretending to be just like us, but (spoiler alert) are hiding lizardy evidence that they just aren't.

3. The whole thing could have been lifted from the minds of Glenn Beck and Lou Dobbs.

Of course, the flip side to this is the possibility that, in macro, this is actually a satire of the anti-Obama hysteria that's filling Fox News' coffers. Either way, the new "V" is a great way to start a good argument while watching some cool sci-fi action.

UPDATE: The White House reacts to allegations of right-wing agenda in "V."

He Controls the Horizontal, He Controls the Vertical,...

How apropos as this is the 50th Annivesary of what has become of our televised media:

From Breitbart:

On September 10th of this year the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) posted a press release informing the world that “from October 19-25, more than 60 network TV shows [will] spotlight the power and personal benefits of service,” and that this “unprecedented block of TV programming is the first wave of a multi-year ‘I Participate’ campaign.”

On its face this all sounds rather benign in that silly, liberal do-gooder kind of way. The networks have launched these kinds of campaigns before and other than some clunky exposition awkwardly inserted into your favorite show to meet the mandate — no harm, no foul.

Surely, You Jest, Tierney,...

So, Brian "BRINO?" Tierney buys local newspapers from nasty, out-of-town and out-of-touch Knight-Ridder and promises a fresh start for Philadelphia newspapers.

He then promptly runs the business into the ground dispensing the same DNC-flavored Kool-Aid as every other major city press.

Now he's bankrupt and trying to re-organize without selling to another "outsider," huh?

Well, BRINO, here's a few ideas on how to bring the press back to respectability in Philly:

1. Sell off that "Newspaper That Shall Not Be Named" to a competitor. I know, I know: this is Philadelphia and between the Democratic Party, trade unions and the Phillies in the National League East, we no longer grasp the concept of "competition." But you used to run a business, Brian, so you should still remember the rules of capitalism - its what made this country.

2. Fire the ENTIRE editorial board. Bring in people who understand "fair and balanced." Hell, it works for Fox News,...

3. Stick to reporting NEWS. Michael Jackson isn't news. He's entertainment. Leave his plastic, pedophilic corpse to People Magazine. Hire reporters, not puppets with a leftist agenda.

If not, then here's to the New York Post opening up a branch here in town.

THAT'S MY OPINION AND YOU'RE ENTITLED TO IT!

Racism! Racism! Yeah,..whatever, BHO,...

OK,..is it just me or is this getting old?

Did you know that when you refer to someone as a socialist, you're really calling them the N-word?

Such an astonishing hypothesis was offered by MSNBC's Carlos Watson Monday in a segment he refers to as "The 'C' Note."

Potentially even more shocking, after Watson offered this seemingly absurd opinion, Mort Zuckerman actually agreed with him (video embedded below the fold with partial transcript, h/t HotAirPundit):

MSM Losing Track of Their Lies

The media have repeatedly stated how "angry," "hostile" and "ugly" town hall meetings across America are becoming. They are of course largely ascribing the nastiness to conservatives voicing their opposition to (among other things) President Barack Obama and Congress' proposed government takeover of the health care system.

The press has been particularly offended by the "extreme" use of references to Adolf Hitler specifically and Nazis generally. One image they have repeatedly used as an example of this alleged right-wing extremism is a poster of President Obama - on whose face a Hitler mustache has been Photo Shopped - bearing the caption "I've Changed."

NBC's August 7 Nightly News comes as close as possible to saying Limbaugh printed and distributed the Obama-with-Mustache posters himself without actually doing so. As they show the image, reporter Kelly O'Donnell's voiceover proffers "Some anger on display gets stoked by the provocative megaphone of Rush Limbaugh" as they then immediately cut to video and audio of Limbaugh.

On Sunday's Meet the Press, David Gregory's voiceover at the time of their Obama-with-Mustache visual is "but the rhetoric has become extreme." The voiceover lands on the word "extreme" when the Obama-with-Mustache poster appears, and they too then immediately cut to video and audio of Limbaugh.

But here's the video capture of the poster ascribed to Limbaugh:

Note that at the bottom one lucky person, Steve Gutkowski, observes a website URL:

That's right! Lyndon LaRouche! Here's the "official" version:

For written at the poster's bottom is the web address "LaRouchePAC.com," the political action committee website for Communist and perpetual Presidential candidate Lyndon LaRouche.

The Obama-with-Mustache sign is in fact offered up on LaRouche's website as a "Mass Distribution Poster." It is an enormous full color .pdf suitable for all your town hall Communist protest needs.

If only the media had invested the five seconds I did to discover this.

The MSM Missed Another One,....

No anti-Semitism or anti-Israel on the left, huh?

Jerusalem — On Thursday, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish umbrella organization, decried Arab desecrations of Joseph’s Tomb in the town of Nablus.

Reports Thursday morning of a group of Israelis who went to worship at the tomb of this Jewish patriarch state that the tomb was covered in bootprints and swastikas.

In response, Nathan J. Diament, director of public policy of the Orthodox Union, issued the following statement:

“The Orthodox Union decries the desecrations of the holy site of Joseph’s Tomb and we call upon all people of goodwill to join us in condemning such acts of desecration of holy sites.”

Mr. Diament also warned this could serve as a precedent for what could happen if Israel relinquishes sovereignty over other Jewish holy sites, most notably in Jerusalem.

During the 1948-1967 Arab rule over the Old City of Jerusalem, 57 synagogues in the Old City were torched, and Jews were not even allowed to visit the Old City.

Gotcha! Katie Couric!

Just as Charlie Gibson did in his interview with Sarah Palin, Katie Couric set out to humiliate the Republican vice-presidential candidate with a series of "gotcha" questions.

This tactic - rarely employed with major liberal candidates - could be used equally effectively against Ms. Couric, or most any other liberal member of the television news media. It would be highly instructive to have Ms. Couric asked questions in the same way in which she (and Gibson) asked questions of Mrs. Palin.

For example:
Q: Critics of the war in Iraq argue that prior to the invasion of Iraq, America had never attacked a country that had no plans to attack it. How then do you explain the Korean War?

On my radio show, I have asked this question of some of the most celebrated names among liberal intellectuals, and they had little or nothing to say. One major editor simply admitted that he had little familiarity with that war. That is too bad because America invaded a country that had absolutely no intention, let alone ability, to attack the United States. The United States attacked Korea - and sacrificed over 30,000 American lives - solely in order to prevent Korea from becoming a totalitarian Communist state. We succeeded in the southern half, and over 50 years later, North Korea remains essentially a gigantic concentration camp.

Q: Many Americans believe that the most important way of understanding the effects of taxation on government revenues is the Laffer Curve. What is your opinion about this?

The Laffer Curve, which, unlike the "Bush Doctrine," is objectively definable, is perhaps the most important economic argument against tax increases - because at a given point of increased taxation, the government will actually receive less tax revenue, not more. It would be quite surprising if many TV news people, including anchors, could define this economic theory, let alone intelligently discuss it.

Q: Is there any point in a woman's pregnancy at which you would call an abortion immoral?

Ms. Couric spent some time trying to show how immoral Mrs. Palin's anti-abortion position is, since it even extends to cases of rape or incest. That was not necessarily unfair questioning. Even some who believe that human life begins at conception are prepared to allow abortions in the case of rape or incest. But it would be highly educational for Americans to see the tables reversed on pro-choice people: Are there any circumstances when a pro-choice person is prepared to make a moral judgment on killing a human fetus? How about during the third trimester (presuming, of course, that the pregnancy poses no threat to the life or health of the mother)? Or when an abortion is performed solely for convenience ?

Some more possible questions:

Q: Members of the news media believe, correctly, that individuals running for political office, because of their potentially great impact on American life, should subject themselves to interview after interview about their views, values, personal life and knowledge base by often hostile members of the news media.

But, the most powerful members of the news media, people who have more impact on American life than almost any politician in America, do not allow themselves to be interviewed about their views, values, personal life and knowledge of the issues. Why not?

Q: Which of the Federalist Papers do you think is most important? Why?

Q: In a question to Mrs. Palin, you said that "women make 77 cents for every dollar a man makes." If that is so, why don't employers only hire women whenever possible? Is it possible that many women choose more flexible hours, want jobs with less travel and may choose less demanding work given their desire to be home more?

Nearly Everyone Reads the Philadelphia Bulletin,...

Tough times for Philadelphia's leftists rags? Hopefully a boycott of The Paper That Shall Not Be Named is playing a part in this:

New York - The owners of Philadelphia's two major daily newspapers missed an interest payment once again as they seek a new agreement with lenders to account for the continuing decline they expect in advertising revenue.

The latest move appears aimed at forcing lenders to renegotiate, something many have been doing with newspaper companies as the worsening economy puts additional pressure on an advertising market that - long before the current downturn began - already was suffering from a migration of readers and ad dollars to the Internet.

Philadelphia Media Holdings LLC, which owns The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia XXXXX XXXX, said it had enough cash on hand to make its Oct. 1 payment, but was awaiting completion of the renegotiations to release the money.

Although the company made a reference to "the chaos, volatility and uncertainty in today's financial and credit markets" of recent weeks, the newspapers' troubles began long before that. The company first missed a payment in June, and in August it proposed restructuring its lending agreements to help it weather the drop in advertising revenue.

Philadelphia Media's missed payment of an unspecified amount, disclosed in a statement Friday, follows a decision by the Star Tribune of Minneapolis to skip a $9 million quarterly debt payment to save cash as it, too, tries to restructure its debt.

In both cases, the owners took on debt to buy the papers from McClatchy Co., which itself restructured its lending agreements last month. A group of investors led by former advertising executive Brian Tierney bought the two Philadelphia papers for $562 million in June 2006; Avista Capital Partners acquired the Star Tribune for $530 million in March 2007.

"Both of those went to companies that bought what they thought were undervalued properties at a low time in the market and found out they had bought too early," Ken Doctor, a media analyst with Outsell Inc., said Monday. He said advertising revenue has declined faster than anticipated all year.
