Why Don't I Smell Tea Brewing??

I normally don't reference the "Philadelphia, Weakly" freebie fishwrapper, but THIS really hits the mark!

It’s the perfect time for a political backlash in Philly. After the last several months of sheer incompetence on the backs of many city agencies and programs—PPA, PHA, BRT, DROP—you’d imagine there’d be a little more outrage, especially within City Hall’s opposition offices.

And yet, crickets. Hate to say it, but sometimes Republicans can serve a purpose. And the lack of any real Republican voice against the Democratically-led City government has been deafening, especially lately. So, where’s the Republican counter-punch now that we need it?

“If you can’t beat the opposition just based on what’s happened over the last two months, then you’re not going to beat them on anything,” says Adam Lang, 32, a Republican activist and computer network engineer from the Brewerytown-Sharswood area of North Philly. “[Councilmen Rizzo, O’Neill and Kelly] should have been in front of the Inquirer building screaming, holding press conferences, telling everyone, ‘This is why you need to kick these bums out.’ And yet they’re completely complicit.”

Councilmen Frank Rizzo Jr. and Jack Kelly, two of three Republicans on City Council, are enrolled in DROP and scheduled to receive a combined almost-half-million-dollar payout.

(snip)

The change of focus from local to national issues seems to have basically split the Philly GOP into three caucuses: The official party led by Michael Meehan and supported by elected office holders; the Loyal Opposition led by Kevin Kelly; and Reform League Philadelphia, a PAC since founded by Adam Lang. All factions, however, are unorganized.

All of this, gentle readers, is followed-up by a great comment by Dan Hannan:

“Start out by reading "This party sucks" from Philadelphia Magazine back in September of 2009. It is easily found online The Republican establishment in Philadelphia serves the same purpose as the Washington Generals who used to lose to the Globe Trotters each night. It's beyond tragic that the city that once led the world into a new age of unprecedented personal liberty now has elections reminiscent of a Banana Republic. If good men don't step forward and demand better, this city will become indistinguishable from Detroit, and an open air museum to the dangers of apathy and unchecked government expansion.”

Will Hearing Aids Be Covered by Obamacare?

Because these three need them!!

"Hey, Steny: when I look into Harry's ear, I can see you!"

Democrats are racing the clock to pass health care reform ahead of a wave of Tea Party-driven town hall meetings planned for the spring recess -- the kind of gatherings that nearly derailed the package last August.

But there's a big difference this time around. Last summer, Democrats were encouraged to hold the town hall meetings, and they were blindsided by the backlash, which was recorded and promoted in countless YouTube clips. This time around, they have a good idea of what's coming -- and they're lying low, in case work on health care carries over into the recess.

"There's not been the same push as there was in August to encourage members to do town halls," said Stephanie Lundberg, spokeswoman for House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer.

But that isn't stopping Tea Party groups, as well as former House Republican Leader Dick Armey's outfit, FreedomWorks, from holding their own meetings and trying to coax lawmakers into attending.

"We're about to ratchet it up," said Debbie Dooley, a Tea Party Patriots organizer and FreedomWorks volunteer outside Atlanta. "You're about to see the passion that we saw during the August recess."

Nice to See the Dems Have Their Priorities Straight

The Democrats' governing body Saturday called on Jindal to defend the rights of Louisiana citizens to use the term "Who Dat" and the New Orleans Saints' fleur-de-lis symbol.

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Louisiana Democrats want Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal to get into the "Who Dat" fray with the NFL.

The Democrats' governing body Saturday called on Jindal to defend the rights of Louisiana citizens to use the term "Who Dat" and the New Orleans Saints' fleur-de-lis symbol.

Some T-shirt makers have received cease-and-desist letters from the NFL demanding they stop selling shirts with the traditional cheer of Saints fans. The NFL claims the shirts infringe on a trademark it owns.

The issue has outraged residents, including members of the state's congressional delegation, who say it's ridiculous for the NFL to claim ownership of a saying that predates the Saints.

Jindal's office didn't immediately respond to a request for comment Saturday.

(And thereby certifying Gov. Jindal's fitness to be POTUS!)

Guantanamo: Closed for Business! (Wrong!)

HT to Bucks Right:

There is just one day left until the terrorist detention camp at Guantanamo Bay closes. I know this because failed President Barack “I’ll Put It On C-SPAN” Obama told me so on January 22, 2009.

YOU LIE!

January 22, 2009 – WASHINGTON (CNN) — Promising to return America to the “moral high ground” in the war on terrorism, President Obama issued three executive orders Thursday to demonstrate a clean break from the Bush administration, including one requiring that the Guantanamo Bay detention facility be closed within a year.

Here’s something you don’t read every day: John McCain was right.

January 22, 2009 – Thursday night on CNN’s “Larry King Live,” McCain said he thinks the new president may have been hasty in the decision and should have taken the time to consider everything associated with closing the camp before forcing himself into a timetable.

[...]

“So, the easy part, in all due respect, is to say we’re going to close Guantanamo,” McCain said. “Then I think I would have said where they were going to be taken. Because you’re going to run into a NIMBY [not in my backyard] problem here in the United States of America.”

MSM Losing Track of Their Lies

The media have repeatedly stated how "angry," "hostile" and "ugly" town hall meetings across America are becoming. They are of course largely ascribing the nastiness to conservatives voicing their opposition to (among other things) President Barack Obama and Congress' proposed government takeover of the health care system.

The press has been particularly offended by the "extreme" use of references to Adolf Hitler specifically and Nazis generally. One image they have repeatedly used as an example of this alleged right-wing extremism is a poster of President Obama - on whose face a Hitler mustache has been Photo Shopped - bearing the caption "I've Changed."

NBC's August 7 Nightly News comes as close as possible to saying Limbaugh printed and distributed the Obama-with-Mustache posters himself without actually doing so. As they show the image, reporter Kelly O'Donnell's voiceover proffers "Some anger on display gets stoked by the provocative megaphone of Rush Limbaugh" as they then immediately cut to video and audio of Limbaugh.

On Sunday's Meet the Press, David Gregory's voiceover at the time of their Obama-with-Mustache visual is "but the rhetoric has become extreme." The voiceover lands on the word "extreme" when the Obama-with-Mustache poster appears, and they too then immediately cut to video and audio of Limbaugh.

But here's the video capture of the poster ascribed to Limbaugh:

Note that at the bottom one lucky person, Steve Gutkowski, observes a website URL:

That's right! Lyndon LaRouche! Here's the "official" version:

For written at the poster's bottom is the web address "LaRouchePAC.com," the political action committee website for Communist and perpetual Presidential candidate Lyndon LaRouche.

The Obama-with-Mustache sign is in fact offered up on LaRouche's website as a "Mass Distribution Poster." It is an enormous full color .pdf suitable for all your town hall Communist protest needs.

If only the media had invested the five seconds I did to discover this.

Pop Culture to the Nth Degree?

The newest buzzword in this recession? "Funemployed" As gleefully reported by the LA Times:

This new-found laziness is explained away:

While millions of Americans struggle to find work as they face foreclosures and bankruptcy, others have found a silver lining in the economic meltdown. These happily jobless tend to be single and in their 20s and 30s. Some were laid off. Some quit voluntarily, lured by generous buyouts.

Buoyed by severance, savings, unemployment checks or their parents, the funemployed do not spend their days poring over job listings. They travel on the cheap for weeks. They head back to school or volunteer at the neighborhood soup kitchen. And at least till the bank account dries up, they're content living for today.

The Times even found someone to explain away these lazy losers:

"Recession gives people permission to be unemployed," said David Logan, a professor at USC's Marshall School of Business. "Why not make use of the time and go do something fun?"

So what some are calling "funemployment" are really covering up for the 20-somethings that haven't had their college-socialism indoctrination worn away by relentless reality and hard work. In the end, the result is simply:

Big Brother:

Super Sized
