Why Governor Christie SHOULD Eliminate NJN,...

Two words: Equal Time.

It is well-known that the umbrella of publicly-operated and/or state-run television channels known as PBS is nothing more than a mouthpiece for the Democratic Party and, absent such benign fare as cooking and travelogue shows, broadcasts with a definitive leftist slant.

Which begs the question: where's the publicly-funded media with a conservative point-of-view? That's right, gentle readers, it DOESN'T exist.  And FOX doesn't count!

In a country hell-bent on spreading our American ideals, such as equality and fair play, our own government turns a blind eye when it comes to doling out money to support "public television;" that is, television that doesn't rely on commercial revenue, but rather donations from viewers for financial support.

And who stands to lose the most from Christie's plan? Yup, unions. Unions, as we know, are the very backbone of today's Democratic-cum-Socialist Party.

Howard Blumenthal, paid $154,000 a year to head New Jersey Network and its nonprofit foundation, will return full-time to MiND TV, a non-commercial Philadelphia station, according to a press release from NJN.

He was hired last year after he outlined a plan to turn the network from a drain on taxpayers to a privately run, non-profit standout in public broadcasting. But his vision did not sit well with the stations' unionized employees, who said the plan would cost them their jobs and put potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayer assets under private control.

So I say "YES" to Governor Christie's plan to privatize NJN.  Let the big-business types have a piece of it!  Maybe they'll finally get a chance to rebut the never-ending stream of tree-hugging, corporation-bashing that comes with your annual PBS subscription!

Good Show, Mr. Blair!

Tony Blair, who took Britain to war in Iraq and Afghanistan, is donating millions in earnings from his forthcoming memoir to a charity for injured troops.

The Royal British Legion said Monday that the former prime minister has agreed to give all proceeds from "A Journey" to its Battle Back Challenge Center. The center opens in 2012 and will provide state of the art sports facilities and rehabilitation services for seriously wounded personnel.

Publisher Random House paid an estimated $7.5 million for Blair's personal account of his time in power, due to be published next month.

Blair spokesman Matthew Doyle said Monday that Blair's donation includes the advance and all royalties.

Chris Simpkins, director-general of the Royal British Legion, said the organization "is delighted to accept this very generous donation."

Regardless of his politics, Blair took a lot of kicks to his privates for being one of the very few Euro "allies" to stand with the US against Islamofascism!

That's TWO States, Mr. President...

Florida's attorney general and a group of state lawmakers moved Wednesday to push the Sunshine State into the forefront of the national illegal immigration debate with a bill modeled after Arizona's controversial law -- only, they claim, with a better shot of withstanding a court challenge.

State Attorney General Bill McCollum, following the lead of Virginia's top prosecutor, also issued an opinion saying state law enforcement already have the right to ask about immigration status in the course of their duties.

"This legislation will provide new enforcement tools for protecting our citizens and will help our state fight the ongoing problems created by illegal immigration," McCollum, a Republican, said in a written statement. "Florida will not be a sanctuary state for illegal aliens."

McCollum helped write the legislation, though Florida lawmakers will be responsible for pushing it in the legislature.

The move comes after a U.S. District Court judge blocked key provisions of Arizona's law. The battle between Arizona and the U.S. government, as well as civil rights groups, could make its way to the Supreme Court -- but while that fight plays out, several states are putting similar legislation on the table.

It's Ovah,..It's ALL Ovah,...

GENEVA — The World Health Organization declared the swine flu pandemic officially over Tuesday, months after many national authorities started canceling vaccine orders and shutting down hot lines as the disease ebbed from the headlines.

WHO Director-General Margaret Chan said the organization's emergency committee of top flu experts advised her that the pandemic had "largely run its course" and the world is no longer in phase six — the highest influenza alert level.

"I fully agree with the committee's advice," Chan told reporters in a telephone briefing from her native Hong Kong.

The virus has now entered the "post-pandemic" phase, meaning disease activity around the world has returned to levels usually seen for seasonal influenza, she said.

But Chan cautioned against complacency, saying that even though hospitalizations and deaths have dropped sharply, countries should still keep a watchful eye for unusual patterns of infection and mutations that might render existing vaccines and antiviral drugs ineffective.

"It is likely that the virus will continue to cause serious disease in younger age groups," she said, urging high-risk groups such as pregnant women to continue seeking vaccination.

(snip)

WHO chief Chan insisted that declaring swine flu a pandemic had been the right decision, based on the internationally agreed rules that existed at the time.

"We have been aided by pure good luck," she said, adding that if the virus had mutated then the death rate could have been much higher.

As someone closely-involved at a county level, I'm going to strongly disagree with that last statement. While many may deride the government and media outlets for stirring mass-panic over the entire affair, I'm going to paraphrase one of my fellow county organizers: if nothing else, it was a good exercise in healthcare mobilization and deployment should we ever be attacked by a biologic agent!

Personally, over 50% of my company's paramedics received PA Dept of Health endorsements to administer the H1N1 vaccine and I'm looking at a freezer full of PA DoH-assigned H1N1 doses that will have to be destroyed because they're past their expiration dates.

Luck my ass!

Nice Sentiment, Take It Further,....

Anthony Williams is a Democratic state senator from Philadelphia who ran for governor this year on a platform that included universal school choice

I was raised to revere the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). As a child, I learned of its legendary achievements in fighting against the oppression of the human spirit and removing the barriers of segregation and racial discrimination. The organization's recent involvement in controversies surrounding Shirley Sherrod and the tea party, however, indicates a shift away from its core values. Today, the long-revered civil rights group seems more concerned about public relations, political positioning, and currying interest-group favor than providing a voice to the voiceless. Nowhere is this transformation more evident, or troubling, than in the area of education.

(snip)

As a Pennsylvania state senator representing a district with failing schools, I have seen thousands of children deprived of a quality education. Only 10 percent of the children who enter Philadelphia's ninth grade go on to graduate college. In this country an African American male who drops out of high school is more likely than not to serve time in prison.

(snip)

The NAACP's mission, as stated in its constitution, is to ensure the political, educational, and socioeconomic equity rights of all people. So its abandonment of children creates a paralyzing moment full of confusion and betrayal.

State Senator Williams makes some salient arguments regarding the NAACP and education, but it rings hollow with me and will continue to ring hollow until the NAACP acknowledges that it DOESN'T treat all equally.

If the NAACP wants to be involved in education, start by eliminating the true origins of many of America's racial problems: the perpetual, NAACP-approved idea that Republicans = evil, rich whites who hate blacks while Democrats = saintly, progressive whites out to help blacks!

Every year, for the 28 days of February, people like George Wallace, Ross Barnett and Orval Faubus are vilified for their actions in the fight for civil rights, but perpetually silent is the one common thread they have with the NAACP of the 21st Century - they are all members and supporters of the Democratic Party!! Yes, it wasn't Southern Republicans siccing dogs on black school students, mobilizing the National Guard and looking the other way as hooded Klansmen
enforced "southern justice" on blacks throughout the South.

So, NAACP, if you want to be involved in education, let's start with the reeducation of the NAACP!

The Immigration Issue Isn't New,..and Republicans Aren't Racists!

Teddy Roosevelt on Immigration (confirmed via SNOPES):

'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language.. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.'
Theodore Roosevelt 1907

Yes, folks, a REPUBLICAN spoke out against the evils of racism more than 50 years before a Yankee Democrat forced Southern Democrat governors to accept equality.

Hmmm,..betcha the NAACP has long forgotten that one, huh?

C'mon, Brett,...Seriously?

MANKATO, Minn. -- Brett Favre's spectacular stint with the Minnesota Vikings appears to be over.

Favre has informed the Vikings he will not return to Minnesota for a second season, according to multiple reports.

Favre has sent text messages to teammates saying, "This is it," league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Neither Favre nor the Vikings has confirmed the news, but a statement is expected later Tuesday, the sources said.

Vikings coach Brad Childress said Tuesday that he has talked to Favre in the past 24 hours, but was unaware of the reports of Favre's apparent decision to retire.

"I'm not a big hearsay person," Childress said. "I've got to hear it from the horse's mouth."

Childress told the NFL Network that the Vikings would be prepared if Favre didn't return.

"The same plays are being installed whether [Favre] was here or the guys that are here are here," Childress said.

The Associated Press, citing an unnamed source, reported that the 40-year-old Favre called Childress to say his injured ankle is not responding as well to surgery and rehabilitation as he had hoped.
