Goodbye, Godspeed, Farewell and Good Luck!



HOUSTON -- Roy Oswalt, one of the greatest pitchers to wear an Astros uniform, is headed to the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Astros and Phillies finalized a deal on Thursday that sent Oswalt to the two-time National League champions in exchange for left-hander J.A. Happ, Minor League outfielder Anthony Gose and Minor League shortstop Jonathan Villar.

"It's exciting for sure," Oswalt said. "I think it works out for both of us. Houston's getting good prospects and another pitcher, and I'm getting to go to a great team. I'm happy for both sides. From the very beginning, I said I wouldn't accept it unless it worked out for both of us, and I think it worked out."

Oswalt cleaned out his locker at Minute Maid Park on Thursday afternoon and was scheduled to fly to Philadelphia later in the day and will start for the Phillies on Friday in Washington against the Nationals.

J.A. Happ was a good kid caught up in some bad luck and a numbers crunch. Here's hoping for a long career ahead of him.

Goliath Steps on David, Arizona Fights On!




The other local immigration law that was set to go into effect tomorrow is in the town of Fremont, Nebraska. The ordinance was approved by voters last month and would have prohibited the hiring of, or renting to, illegal aliens.

But the town council there voted last night to suspend the measure because of the prohibitive costs of fighting the ACLU and MALDEF in court:

Fremont appears to be leaning away from a court fight for cost reasons – officials have estimated that implementing the ordinance, including legal fees, would average $1 million per year.

Legal experts say that sets a bad precedent.

Critics of the suits say they amount to intimidation. “The strategy is essentially, ‘You may want to take actions to deal with illegal immigration? It may be what the citizenry wants, but if you try, we’ll bleed you dry in the courts,’“ says Ira Mehlman, spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).




It's not overturned but an injunction against the most important parts of the bill until a full trial takes place.

A federal judge on Wednesday blocked the most controversial parts of Arizona's immigration law from taking effect, delivering a last-minute victory to opponents of the crackdown.
The overall law will still take effect Thursday, but without the provisions that angered opponents — including sections that required officers to check a person's immigration status while enforcing other laws.

The judge also put on hold parts of the law that required immigrants to carry their papers at all times, and made it illegal for undocumented workers to solicit employment in public places.

U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton ruled that those sections should be put on hold until the courts resolve the issues. Other provisions of the law, many of them procedural and slight revisions to existing Arizona immigraiton statute, will go into effect at 12:01 a.m.

..."There is a substantial likelihood that officers will wrongfully arrest legal resident aliens under the new (law)," Bolton ruled. "By enforcing this statute, Arizona would impose a 'distinct, unusual and extraordinary' burden on legal resident aliens that only the federal government has the authority to impose."

It Must Be Dumbass Day!




It's always funny till somebody gets hurt—and that goes for professional baseball players hitting teammates in the face with shaving cream pies while they're giving postgame interviews. Chris Coghlan of the Florida Marlins is on the 15-day disabled list and may need knee surgery thanks to a pie-ing that went awry after Sunday's game, USA Today reports.

Wes Helms' game-winning RBI in the bottom of the 11th set off the celebration. "It happened as I was going to pie Wes in the face and when I jumped I landed on my knee wrong," Coghlan, last season's NL rookie of the year, told the Palm Beach Post. Manager Edwin Rodriguez has belatedly banned the pie ritual.





A Florida pastor whose Bible is apparently missing the page that explains the Golden Rule has big plans for the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks—his church will play host to "International Burn a Koran Day." The Dove World Outreach Center, which is known for the "Islam Is of the Devil" sign on its lawn in Gainesville, says Islam is "a violent and oppressive religion," Kyle Munzenrieder blogs for Miami New Times.

The pastor, Terry Jones, tells Religion News Service supporters have been mailing copies of the Koran to the church. Jones and his congregation have vehemently protested the election of a gay man as mayor of Gainesville, notes Edge Boston. They plan another event, for next month, cleverly named "No Homo Mayor." Asks Munzenrieder: "The Westboro Baptist Church currently holds the title of most insane thing purporting to be a Christian church in America, but could a small congregation of horribly misguided Christians in central Florida soon be taking their place?" So,..Its Not Just Me?



MTV's reality hit "Jersey Shore" has created a situation, so to speak, for the Garden State. So says Gov. Chris Christie.

The Republican governor said Sunday that the bawdy reality series is a "negative" for his state because it doesn't depict the New Jersey he knows. For starters, most of the uber-tanned, hair-gelled stars of the show aren't even from Jersey.

"What it does is it takes a bunch of New Yorkers, who are -- most of the people on 'Jersey Shore' are New Yorkers -- takes a bunch of New Yorkers, drops them at the Jersey shore, and tries to make America feel like this is New Jersey," Christie said on ABC's "This Week."

The second season of "Jersey Shore" begins this week, but Christie urged anyone who wants to get a real taste of his state to book a trip instead of watching the show.

"I could tell people, they want to know what New Jersey really is? I welcome them to come to New Jersey any time. The Jersey shore is a beautiful place, and it's a place that everybody should come on vacation this summer," he said. "We've got another six weeks or so of summer left. Come to New Jersey."


As a kid and into my late teens, I practically grew up "down the shore;" predeominantly in pre-Main Line snobbified Avalon. The types of losers seen on this show were the kind of a-holes you either saw in "Childwood" during Senior Week or in places Sea Isle City and the beach towns north LBI!

That said, as much as I miss the Jersey Shore, you can't pull me away from the Outer Banks anymore! Sorry, Gov. Christie!

On Who's REALLY a Racist (DoubleStandarddradnatSelbuoD)

So, after Breitbart's brilliantly-laid tar baby in the DC brier patch, let's review the media's obsession with racism and racists:

  • Democratic apparatchik Shirley Sherrod WAS a racist, but has seen the light of day and now lives in harmony with all creeds and colors. It must be true, because she caved under Matt Lauer's usual pressure tactics. And she's still upset those white crackas manipulated her anti-racist speech to seem otherwise!
  • Democratic Senator Robert Byrd was so much of a racist, he joined the KKK. But it was for political purposes and he, too, saw the error of his ways and lived in harmony, representing his racially-homogeneous state of West Virginia.
  • But Democrat-turned-Republican Senator Strom Thurmond was a racist and separatist right up until he passed away (even though he fathered a child by a black woman) and ANYONE who claimed otherwise was banished from the swamp we call the District of Columbia.
Sounds just about right to me. How about you?

A Saudi man has been chained in a basement apartment for more than six years because his father believes he is possessed by an evil female genie.

'When he has fits he has convulsions and his entire body twists and his eyes become completely white,' said the father of the 29-year-old man who has been identified only as Turki. (In Western medicine, we call this "epilepsy!")


'Then the voice of a woman can be heard coming from him.'

When Turki first began behaving bizarrely, his father took him to local Muslim clerics to recite the Koran over him.

'But most of them became scared when they heard the female voice telling them that she was a royal jinn (genie) and that no-one can exorcise her unless Turki dies,' his father said.
One cleric advised him to shackle his son’s arms and legs in chains and read the Koran to him.
'We did this. My son became quiet but is totally unaware of what is happening around him. He does not talk and is now unable to harm anyone,' Turki’s father told Arab News, an English language Saudi daily.

But genies, or jinn, in Islamic theology can be much more sinister. Some are good, others bad.

It Took a Judge to Figure This Out??



HARTFORD, Conn. -- Competitive cheerleading is not an official sport that colleges can use to meet gender-equity requirements, a federal judge ruled Wednesday in ordering a Connecticut school to keep its women's volleyball team.

Several volleyball players and their coach had sued Quinnipiac University after it announced in March, 2009 that it would eliminate the team for budgetary reasons and replace it with a competitive cheer squad.

The school contended the cheer squad and other moves kept it in compliance with Title IX, the 1972 federal law that mandates equal opportunities for men and women in athletics. But U.S. District Judge Stefan Underhill disagreed in a ruling that those involved say was the first time the issue has been decided by a judge.

"Competitive cheer may, some time in the future, qualify as a sport under Title IX," Underhill wrote. "Today, however, the activity is still too underdeveloped and disorganized to be treated as offering genuine varsity athletic participation opportunities for students."

Quinnipiac has 60 days to come up with a plan to keep the volleyball team through next season and comply with gender rules.

In Philly, the cops are too busy being shot at to do something this dumb,.....


A Massachusetts police officer resigned after leaving his beat to see a dwarf porn star called "Bridget the Midget" and lied about the visit during an investigation into the incident, local media reported Tuesday.

Officer Richard P. Bennett, 28, deserted his late-night patrol to visit a gentleman's club where adult film star Bridget "The Midget" Powers -- billed as "the world's smallest porn star" -- was performing last month.

Bennett was in uniform at the time of his visit to Club Alex's in Stoughton and was reported to authorities by at least five other officers, said Stoughton Police Chief Paul Shastany.

He then reportedly lied about the visit during an internal investigation into the incident, the Patriot Ledger reported.

"Mama told me there would be days like this," Shastany said, on confirming Bennett's resignation. "We are not red-faced. In fact, I am pretty proud [other officers] stepped up."


Oh, yeah,..make's you wanna toss away the Viagra, right?

Days after the NAACP clashed with Tea Party members over allegations of racism, a video has surfaced showing an Agriculture Department official regaling an NAACP audience with a story about how she withheld help to a white farmer facing bankruptcy.

Shirley Sherrod, the department's Georgia director of Rural Development, is shown in the clip describing "the first time I was faced with having to help a white farmer save his farm." Sherrod, who is black, claimed the farmer took a long time trying to show he was "superior" to her. The audience laughed as she described how she determined his fate.

"He had to come to me for help. What he didn't know while he was taking all that time trying to show me he was superior to me was I was trying to decide just how much help I was going to give him," she said. "I was struggling with the fact that so many black people have lost their farmland and here I was faced with having to help a white person save their land -- so I didn't give him the full force of what I could do. I did enough."

Sherrod explained that at the time, she assumed the state or national Department of Agriculture referred him to her. In order to ensure that the farmer could report back that she was indeed helpful, she said she took him to see "one of his own" -- a white lawyer.

This is the REAL Gambling in Philadelphia,.....




Money problems in the city of Philadelphia could soon affect the number of police officers on your street or whether or not the fire station near home remains open.

The fire department takes an approximate $3.5 million hit. That will be accomplished by cutting back on the OT and “rolling station closures” This means up to 4 firehouses each week will take turns being closed for one day.

So, with all that tax amnesty money recently collected -why is the money going to be given to libraries as opposed to the police or fire department?

Basically, the Mayor says that everyone is feeling the pain. More cuts may come down the pipes, depending on pending labor union negotiations and if the Federal government does not come through on Medicaid funding.

A Canadian judge's decision to free a devout Muslim mother convicted of strangling her 14-year-old daughter with a head scarf has prompted growing outrage from victim's advocates groups.

A suspended sentence was given to Aset Magomadova, 40, by Court of Queen's Bench Justice Sal LoVecchio on Thursday, stunning a national victims' group based in Toronto, the Vancouver Sun reports.

"I really strongly disagree," said Joe Wamback, founder and chairman of the Canadian Crime Victims Foundation. "It sends a message to the rest of the community and the world that her daughter's life was valueless."

Wamback continued, "Even though this girl may have been a handful and trouble, that's not the issue. The issue is human life."

The U.S. government has agreed to allow the Iroquois lacrosse team to travel abroad under passports issued by the Iroquois Confederacy, a team spokeswoman said Wednesday.
Tonya Gonnella Frichner, a member of the Onondaga Nation who works with the team, said the U.S. State Department dropped a demand that the team travel using higher-security U.S. passports.

The team still has not been issued British visas to attend the Lacrosse World Championship in Manchester, England, however.

The team needs to get on a Wednesday flight to make a Thursday evening game.
The Iroquois helped invent lacrosse and, in a rare example of international recognition of American Indian sovereignty, participate at every tournament as a separate nation.
The 23 players have passports issued by the Iroquois Confederacy, a group of six Indian nations overseeing land that stretches from upstate New York into Ontario, Canada.
The U.S. government says it will only let players back into the country if they have U.S. passports, a team official said. The British government, meanwhile, won't give the players visas if they cannot guarantee they'll be allowed to go home, the official said.

'That's our identity'
One Iroquois player, Brett Bucktooth, said he would rather miss the tournament than travel under a U.S. passport.
"That's the people we are, and that's our identity," he said.
Bucktooth, 27, also spoke of his deep cultural and personal connection with lacrosse — first played by Iroquois and Huron about 1,000 years ago.
"My father put a wooden lacrosse stick into my crib when I was a baby, and now that I have a son, I put a lacrosse stick into his crib," he said. "In our culture, we all start playing lacrosse young."
Bucktooth and other Iroquois see lacrosse as a gift to the tribes from their creator. Lacrosse was played by American Indians as a preparation for war and "to resolve conflicts, heal the sick, and develop strong, virile men," according to US Lacrosse, the American governing body of the sport.
Today, the Iroquois team is ranked No. 4 by the Federation of International Lacrosse and represents the Haudenosaunee – an Iroquois Confederacy of the Oneida, Seneca, Mohawk, Tuscarora, Cayuga and Onondaga nations. About 90,000 Haudenosaunee, or "the people of the longhouse," live today in New York, Wisconsin, and Oklahoma, as well as Quebec and Ontario, said Onondaga Chief Oren Lyons.

The team has been travelling on Iroquois passports for the past 20 years, and Iroquois passport holders have been using them to go abroad since 1977, said Denise Waterman, a member of the team's board of directors. Within the last year, colleagues used their Iroquois passports to travel to Japan and Sweden without any problems, she said.

In the past, U.S. immigration officials accepted the Iroquois passports when they obtained visas — including for trips to Britain in 1985 and 1994, and as recently as 2002 to Australia.

Inmates of the jail where Lindsay Lohan is set to spend up to 90 days have warned of gangs out to attack the starlet, saying "everyone will want a piece of her", The Sun reported Tuesday.

Lindsay Lohan will leave her Hollywood pad next week and move into new digs at the Lynwood correctional facility in Los Angeles. But instead of wild showbiz parties and a plush double bed to curl up in afterwards, the actress will be locked up for 23 hours a day in a tiny cell with a rock-hard bunk and a single blanket.

Lohan's A-list neighbors will be replaced with tough guards and fearsome lesbian gangs desperate to get their hands on her.

Tamara Haley, 38, is doing time for heroin possession and prostitution.

She said Monday: "Everyone will want a piece of her. It will make them famous if they hurt Lindsay Lohan.

There's No Dying in Baseball!



NEW YORK -- George Steinbrenner, who rebuilt the New York Yankees into a sports empire with a mix of bluster and big bucks that polarized fans all across America, died Tuesday. He had just celebrated his 80th birthday July 4.

Steinbrenner had a heart attack, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, Fla., and died at about 6:30 a.m, a person close to the owner told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team had not disclosed those details.

His death was the second in three days to rock the Yankees. Bob Sheppard, the team's revered public address announcer from 1951-07, died Sunday at 99.

For more than 30 years, Steinbrenner lived up to his billing as "the Boss," a nickname he earned and clearly enjoyed as he ruled with an iron fist. While he lived in Tampa he was a staple on the front pages of New York newspapers.

In a rare frank admission of how deeply troubled the Dems are about the next election, Robert Gibbs, Spokesperson for the Obama Administration admitted the serious possibility of losing so many house seats to the republicans, the Democratic majority could be lost. He says the Dems need to wage a strong campaign pointing out "apologies to oil giant BP and complaints about tighter Wall Street rules show how Republicans would govern." Conveniently omitting the fact it was one congressman that made an apology who was quickly rebuked by the rest of the Republicans. One wonders if such deflections will work on people losing their homes and out of work for two years with no prospects in the future. Read the full article.

The Liberal Lie - Exposed!

Gentle readers, I don't need to remind you that American blacks (at least the one's dumb enough to buy into the lies) have been treated by white, wealthy liberals as nothing more than cannon fodder for generations - they are the excuse to spend billions of tax dollars on social programs, but never the proper end-recipients of these same deals (that's how the white liberals stay wealthy!)

Now, in this day and age of so-called transparency, when electing a black man to the office of President (and a LIBERAL at that) should have signalled the death knell for racism, comes another racist mouthful from that most liberal of TV shows: The View!





GLAAD is determined to get an apology from The View, saying one of its cohosts perpetuated a “dangerous myth” about HIV in the black community last month. On the June 22 show, guest host DL Hughley blamed “the prevalence of HIV in the African American community” on “young women who are getting it from men who are on the down low”—ie, men who are secretly gay.

Cohost Sherri Shepherd chimed in to explain, “It's so big in the black community with women because they're having sex with men who have been having sex with men.” GLAAD was quick to ask for an on-air correction, since the CDC already disproved that theory. When no apology came, the activist group took out a full-page ad in Variety slamming ABC and The View, E! reports.


And, of course, there's nothing like a wealthy, black guy showing some independence to stoke the cries of "racism" from the puppets who profit the most from the racial divide:




Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert's open message to LeBron James certainly wasn't a love letter, but was it hate mail? Jesse Jackson seems to think so. Gilbert "speaks as an owner of LeBron and not the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers," Jackson said in a press release issued yesterday. "His feelings of betrayal personify a slave master mentality. He sees LeBron as a runaway slave. This is an owner-employee relationship—between business partners—and LeBron honored his contract."

Jackson went on to call the comments “mean, arrogant, and presumptuous,” and an attack on all NBA players, and urged the league to take action, reports the AP.

Rating the World Cup

As the sound of that !**@)(*#(&$$^$&#(#&#%# vuvuzela finally fades away from every local pub, pizza shop and landscaping company in America, let's look back on the one cool thing about international soccer: the outfits. Many teams reflect nationalist pride in the "kits" they wear on the world stage (In the Netherlands, Orange isn't just a color, its the royal family's name), so here's my top 5:

5 - Italy
The "Azzurri" actually represents the color of the last royal house of Italy. And it is one of the more easily recognizable on the international sports stage (the red, white and green flag actually dates, in various iterations, to the Napoleanic Era and is more frequently identified with Queen Margherita).



4 - Spain
It just beats the standard Castillian red-and-gold of the Spanish flag.



3 - England
The Three Lions' crest and the Cross of St. George are synonymous with a country most legal American soccer fans associate with the sport.



2 - United States
The US still hasn't fallen head over heels with soccer (thank God), but the away jersey is classically American: in-your-face. For a national team expected to go toe-to-toe with the world's best, this typified the team.



1 - Mexico
There's something about the color scheme that I like: it isn't exactly a mimic of the Californ,..um,..Mexican flag, yet its two colors you don't see every day in sports.

Why Not Everyone is Cut Out for Major League Baseball






A Rangers-Indians game ground to a terrifying halt in Texas last night when a man flipped over the upper deck railing and plunged 30 feet to the seating area below. The fan was sitting in the front row, and reached out too far trying to catch a foul ball, witnesses tell MLB.com. He was still conscious when carried off on a stretcher, and is currently in the hospital. Four other people sustained minor injuries.

“Crazy. I looked up and saw him start to come down,” said left fielder Trevor Crowe. “He hit the luxury box, and then came down. It was the one of the scariest things I've ever seen.” The incident delayed the game 16 minutes. “We were going to wait as long as we possibly needed,” says team president Nolan Ryan, who added that the fall was a freak accident, and not a result of a railing malfunction.

Not to make light of this incident, but if you're going to go all out, do it right and make it count! Right, Aaron Rowand?

How dare someone defy the Obamessiah!!!




Accusing Arizona of trying to "second guess" the federal government, the Justice Department on Tuesday filed a lawsuit challenging the state's immigration policy -- claiming the "invalid" law interferes with federal immigration responsibilities and "must be struck down."

In the suit, which names the state of Arizona as well as Gov. Jan Brewer as defendants, the Justice Department claims the federal government has "preeminent authority" on immigration enforcement and that the Arizona law "disrupts" that balance. It urges the U.S. District Court in Arizona to "preliminarily and permanently" prohibit the state from enforcing the law, which is scheduled to go into effect at the end of the month.

"The United States Constitution forbids Arizona from supplanting the federal government's immigration regime with its own state-specific immigration policy," the suit says. "A policy that, in purpose and effect, interferes with the numerous interests the federal government must balance." (Which interests are they? The need to appease the drug cartels or the unions' desire to grab every illegal that crosses the border, give them a job and turn them into a card-carrying Socialist??)

On this 4th of July, 2010,.....



It was a typically-hot and humid early July in Philadelphia, 1776. For many, especially the representatives from cooler Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island, it was down right uncomfortable.

But the discomfort from the oppressive summer heat was taking a back seat to another, more insidious oppression: King George III of England had rebuffed entreaty after entreaty from his colonial subjects to reduce taxes, allow more trade and freedom to control their destinies in the New World.

The colonists had suffered enough! After weeks of tested wills, dueling views of a future united colonial system and opposing agendas, the fiery Protestants of New England, the pacifist Quakers of Pennsylvania, the forgiving Catholics of Maryland and the duplicitous Georgians and Carolinians finally came together and made the following joint statement:

When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. —


And that is what these men from 13 disparate colonies did: they dissolved, once and forever, the political bands of control from England. No one had done it before, nor had they ever thought to do such a thing!

Then they took and even bolder step: they signed their names to this document, knowing and agonizing that they would now be the enemy of King George's forces, subject to death for thinking such seditious thoughts!

Those men did survive and now, 246 years later, that noble moment and the altruistic intent stands as an unbroken blueprint for peace and stability in the world.

GoogLEFTISTS?

Hot on the heels of Google's rendition of the Obama bow comes this latest twisted tale:


A new Google policy is raising some eyebrows after the company revealed it will be compensating employees for taxes paid on domestic partners' health benefits – but only if they’re gay.

The company said in its blog Thursday, that it will be “grossing-up imputed taxes on health insurance benefits for all same-sex domestic partners in the United States.”

In other words, the company will be paying homosexual employees who include domestic partners on their health insurance plans more money to make up for the federal taxes they pay on that benefit. (Married couples don't have to pay taxes on spousal health benefits.)

But under Google's new policy, the company isn't offering any extra pay to heterosexual domestic partners, because it says heterosexual employees have the option of avoiding the tax by getting married.

Daryl Herrschaft, director of the Workplace Project at Human Rights Campaign, a gay rights advocacy group, says Google's policy is a step in the right direction.
