Pennsylvanians Speak - NO Moderation!

From PA2010.com:

After much speculation, former Gov. Tom Ridge today announced that he would not seek the GOP nomination for Senate next year.

In a statement, Ridge said he had been heartened by the support and encouragement he received from within the party and that it had been a difficult decision for him. He expressed a desire to still be involved in the party’s development.

“To those who believe that the Republican Party is facing challenges, they are right,” Ridge said. “To those who believe the Democratic Party is without its own difficulties, they are wrong. No one party has a monopoly on all of the answers. The more important view, in my mind, is that we remember, whether Republican or Democrat, we are foremost Americans. And as Americans, we have always overcome challenges when we put partisanship aside and solutions first.”

Ridge’s decision leaves Republicans Pat Toomey and Peg Luksik as the main candidates in the race. But it also would seem to increase the likelihood that Congressman Jim Gerlach (R-7) and other Republican lawmakers will give the race a serious look.

And, gentle readers, the response to those challenges isn't to remake the Republican Party into the Moderate Democratic Party.

Toomey's pro-business, pro-life stance is what chased Specter into the arms of the Democrats like a beaten dog. Trying to "moderate" the party with a pro-choicer life Ridge has failed. FAILED! Take the hint. We, the Republicans of Pennsylvania, will NOT stand for ideologic capitulation for the sake of a few extra seats in the Senate.

The Morning After,...

OK,...we all know what happened last night. Despite the punditry, history was made last night and we should all feel better about it. Now, if only America can start looking at the likes of people like Michael Steele, JC Watts and Thomas Showells the same way,...

And a congratulations to President-elect Obama for being a gentleman enough to acknowledge Senator McCain's lengthy record of service to his country and his status as both a veteran and war hero.

So,..what next? The obvious answer is beat Obama at his own game. Organize grassroots better. Fund the process better. Get the message out better. AND STAY ON POINT!

Where does it start? For us Pennsylvanians, its starts at the local levels, as always. 2010 is already on the horizon and the opportunity to eject the likes of Fast Eddie Rendell and his ilk is ours to lose.

While we're at it, RINO Senator Specter MUST GO!

And how to go about this? Start at the top in Pennsylvania: PA Republican Chairman Robert A. Gleason, Jr MUST GO! In an election where Pennsylvanians were labelled racist, bible-clutching, gun-toting, xenophobic rednecks by a man who's platform would obliterate the burgeoning resurgence of our coal industry to answer to The Cult of Algore, how could Obama possibly have won in such a landslide?? The standard excuse of Philly- and Pittsburgh-area liberals dominating the election doesn't account for all of it. Someone dropped the ball and that someone is Gleason!

The clock has been rewound and we're already running out of time! More on this later, but visit my friends Lisa "Bluftooni" Blossie, Bill "Writemarsh" Shaw and the rest of us for more ideas!

Because I AM a Bitter, God-Fearing, Gun-Toting Pennsylvanian!

HT to jk at Three Sources:

From MY Cold, Dead Hands!

Video courtesy of MaddMedic:

HT to Grassroots PA:

Philadelphia DA Lynne Abraham says the city's newly enacted gun control laws are unenforceable.

At a hearing on Tuesday before City Council, Abraham said that in her opinion the laws passed last week (see related stories) are illegal and will be challenged as soon as the first person is charged under the new statutes.

And, she added, she thinks any defendant bringing a court challenge to the new laws would be successful.

The new laws include a requirement to report lost or stolen guns, and a one-per-person-per month limit on gun purchases.

Abraham agrees with state lawmakers that state law pre-empts the city in such matters and prevents any city in Pennsylvania from passing any such laws on its own.

When asked point-blank by a city councilmember if her office would enforce the new city gun control laws, she replied, "Nope." She warned that if police began making arrests under the new laws, the city could face a wholesale wave of civil rights lawsuits in response.

In reaction to DA Abraham's remarks before City Council, Mayor Nutter said he hopes to discuss the DA's position further with her, and he hopes that his law department can convince Abraham that the laws are defensible:

"Much more conversation (with the DA) needs to take place about this. I think that these are legitimate pieces of legislation."

And Nutter also hopes to convince Abraham that the legislation is needed:

"Clearly we need this kind of help and support, and I'm hopeful that the DA will be a partner with us."

The TrekMedic adds:

Welcome to the Commonwealth of Pensylvania, Mayor Nutter,...ALL 67 COUNTIES!

Obama Chokes on T-Bone?

(HT to AlexC's PAWaterCooler for the pic)

Typical liberal elitist: Obama serves up another gutterball

Before I get to Barack Obama’s snobbish, condescending, and arrogant comments about small-town Pennsylvania, I wanted to share a little more about my visit to Harrisburg last week.

As I mentioned, I was up in Pennsylvania to speak to Real Alternatives, an inspiring non-profit charity that provides alternatives to abortion for young women in crisis pregnancies. The group has its roots in historic, early support from the late, pro-life Democrat governor, Bob Casey.

“Our business is to fight the poison of hopelessness with love,” Gov. Casey told counselors and volunteers at the first PA Alternative to Abortion Services Program Banquet. Real Alternatives encompasses a statewide network of social service agencies, pregnancy support centers, maternity residences and adoption agencies that offer comprehensive, life-affirming alternatives to abortion to women dealing with unplanned pregnancies. They’ve served more than 135,000 women since 1996–receiving just a fraction of the money that the massively taxpayer-funded Planned Parenthood abortion empire receives.

At the RA annual banquet last week, I met volunteers and counselors from all walks of life–black, white, Latino, Catholic, Republican, independent, young, and old. I noted that while Beltway blowhards bloviate about hope and change, they were true agents of hope and change. I was moved by the tireless spirit and enthusiasm of Real Alternatives’ president and CEO, Kevin Bagatta. I met his mom, his wife, new baby, his son, his office mates, former co-workers, counselors from across the Keystone State, other pro-life activists from Texas and Maryland who are on a similar mission. This army of compassion has succeeded against enormous odds. They are doing God’s work–and their success is being replicated across the country.

When I think of “small-town Pennsylvania,” I think of the people of faith and fortitude I met last week–with open hearts, big smiles, and
a boundless belief in the ability to help others, even on a shoestring budget and a steep political incline.

Which brings me to Obama. A HuffPo writer reports that during a fund-raiser with wealthy San Francisco liberals, Obama (now Snob-ama) said the following:

“You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them,” Obama said. “And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

Now, we don’t need to guess anymore what he’s thinking when he’s on the campaign trail in rural and small-town Pennsylvania. Instead of hard-working, patriotic, faithful Americans, he sees “bitter,” “frustrated,” resentful scary people whom he’ll readily diss while sipping Chardonnay in Baghdad by the Bay.

A real man of the people, that Barack “37” Obama, ain’t he?

The TrekMedic appends:

Terrific post by Michelle (aren't they all?). For my outside-of-Pennsylvania readers, the demographics of the Commonwealth are like this: you have the 5-county "State of Philadelphia" region in the southeast corner. We are the population and, arguably, cultural center of the PA. The city is almost exclusively Democratic and largely black. They're slanting towards Obama. To the west, you have the City of Pittsburgh and the Alleghany Valley. Also heavily-Democratic, they're slanting towards Clinton, as she favors the unions that are the backbone of the region's Democratic Party.

Everywhere else in Pennsylvania, outside of a few small urban areas, is almost exclusively white, Bible-Belt Christian, rural, and conservative. We call it "The T." "O" just dissed "The T" with his remarks. Anybody living in "The T" that still supports this bloviating buffoon deserves to have his/her head examined!

NB: This is not an endorsement to vote for Shrillary on April 22. The TrekMedic would rather drink Coors Light and bathe in raw sewage before doing something like that!

Should Rendell Have Received a Rosie Award?

When I first read PA Gov. Ed Rendell's remarks about the upcoming primary, that was my first reaction.

However, as much as it may pain me to support the Democrat in Harrisburg, he's probably right.

As many know, I directed the Red November 2006 campaign, supporting and blogging in favor of every local Republican candidate in the Philly metro area.

I also had to commute to work every day through some seriously RED communities.

During those 16-mile commutes, I passed a plethora of campaign posters supporting the Santorum campaign, the Republican campaigns of every federal and local race germane to the township, and every Republican school board slate running.

What was missing on those finely-manicured front lawns?

The "Swann for Governor" posters and placards!

It sickened me!

You can chalk it up to a resignation of the inevitable (an incumbent has never lost a gubernatorial race in PA). I chalk it up to something far more insidous and disgusting.

And Rendell is right to bring it up on the other side of the aisle.

Michael Smerconish also has a great take on this issue here.

Quisling!

HT to Tony Phyrillas for this:

It's official.

Montgomery County Commissioner Jim Matthews, a registered Republican, voted shortly after 2 p.m. today to share power with liberal Democrat Joe Hoeffel when the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners held its annual reorganization meeting.

The odd-man out is Montgomery County Commissioner Bruce L. Castor Jr., the Republican who led all vote-getters in the Nov. 6, 2007, election for three open seats on the Board of Commissioners.

"The era of one-party domination in Montgomery County is over," Joe Hoeffel announced during the commissioners' swearing-in ceremony Monday morning.

The vote to make Matthews board chairman was 3-0, with Matthews, Castor and Hoeffel voting yes.

The vote to make Hoeffel vice chairman was 2-1, with Matthews and Hoeffel voting yes.

Castor attempted to nominate himself for the vice chairman spot, but neither Matthews or Hoeffel would second the nomination.

It's going to be a long four years for Montgomery County government (and the residents of Montgomery County).

By turning his back on the voters, Matthews sealed his political future. His chances of winning another race are slim and none, and none just moved out of Montgomery County.

The long-term damage done to the Montgomery County Republican Party are incalculable. Short-term, Joe Hoeffel will emerge as the most power politician in Montgomery County in four years and probably take majority control of the board. For that, we have Jim Matthews to thank.

As for Castor, I predict he will have a lot of fun over the next few years exposing the back-room deals and political shenanigans that Matthews and Hoeffel will be involved in. And all the publicity in recent months about how Castor tried to save the Montgomery County GOP will go a long way to helping Castor win statewide office.

Castor has the moral high-ground in this political tiff.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Castor reminded everyone at the swearing-in ceremony what happened the last time Hoffel had power in Montgomery County (when he made a similar power-sharing deal with another "Republican" commissioner in the early 1990s.)

By rejecting the Hoeffel-Damsker ticket in November, Castor noted that Montgomery County voters said they don't want a return to "expanded government," the "hiring of cronies" and the driving up of county debt.

That is the legacy of Hoeffel's first term as a county commissioner.

Matthews, one of the most politically-inept men in politics, may have shot himself in the foot as he worked to stab Montgomery County Republicans in the back.

And the silence from Montgomery County Republican Chairman Ken Davis is deafening. Why no condemnation of Matthews for his treasonous actions? And where is Bob Asher, the Republican National Committeeman who funded Matthews campaign? How can anyone trust Asher when he helped deliver his home county to the Democrats?

It's time to force Davis and Asher to walk the plank.

All Hail Emperor Rendell!

HT to GrassrootsPA for this unbelievable story:

Judge Rendell Endorses Dictatorship
Thomas Jefferson wrote, “The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground.”

The separation of powers is one of the checks and balances our founding fathers built into our system of government intended to protect our liberties.

James Madison wrote concerning the separation of powers, “An elective despotism was not the government we fought for; but one in which the powers of government should be so divided and balanced among the several bodies of magistracy as that no one could transcend their legal limits without being effectually checked and restrained by the others.”

On November 8, 2007 a panel discussion was held in Philadelphia by The National Association of Women Judges entitled, "Separation of Powers: What Does It Mean?” Governor Rendell’s wife, a federal judge and member of the panel, made a shocking statement that should have made headlines the following morning. Following her comments lamenting that there are issues that are not going to be resolved legislatively because they are so difficult, issues such as health care, immigration reform, social security and a national gun law, Judge Rendell stated, “Gee, a benevolent dictator would really be good right about now to, to put in health care and to put in some of these policies that we all want, but somehow the gridlock within the legislature makes it impossible.”

First, Mrs. Rendell should know that a “benevolent dictator” is an oxymoron. Dictators, tyrants, and despots use force to impose their will upon the people, a force that has murdered millions of human beings throughout history.

The arrogance of Mrs. Rendell’s comments expose the liberal core beliefs of her and her husband that have been evident through the actions of the tax, borrow and spend Rendell administration.

Elitists, like the Rendells, attempt to lead people to believe that only they themselves know what is best for “we the people.” When our representative government works by stopping tax increases, socialized medicine, gun control and amnesty for illegal aliens, the liberals cry “gridlock” because they are not getting their way.

All levels of government, local, state and federal, are subject to being controlled by liberals who think like the Rendells. Individuals, who raise their hand and swear to uphold and defend our constitution, while at the same time harboring disdain for the very government defined in our constitution and for the liberties declared in it, are not upholding their oath of office.

A quote that history has proven true is, “the price of liberty is eternal vigilance,” and 2008 will prove to be no different. I will continue the fight to defend our constitution and our liberties that it declares against all threats, both foreign and domestic.

Your Tax Dollars at Waste Again

Folks, as you know, the TrekMedic is,..well,...a paramedic! Recently, and without any reasoning whatsoever, the PA Department of Motor Vehicles mandated that all Emergency Vehicle license plates be changed from these (FD tags are older an issuance stopped years ago):

To This:

Other than a new way to keep our prisoners busy, the Trekmedic wonders how much this is costing the taxpayers of PA??
