Random Thoughts:

Think of the fun knowing EVERY baseball broadcaster will STILL have to say "National League East Champion Phillies" for another WHOLE year!

The NL East will have a "rebuilding" year, while the Phillies just replace the worn out parts!
In DC, they'll be asking "Was he "Werth" it?
In Da Bronx, they'll pass that $50mil in unspent Cliff Lee salary along to the season ticket holders!  (Sorry, Jim Beam made me say that!)

How soon before Philadelphia gets called "East Detroit" Mayor Squidward?

The Republicans pwned Barry.  How soon before he becomes Bill Clinton (preferably WITH the impeachment)

The NFL will soon start calling long touchdowns "DeSean Jacksons!"

A come-from-behind win will be called a "Vicktory!"

No Right Turn on Red will become mandatory. Violators will be fined $1,000. Obnoxious BMW, Mercedes, Infiniti, Land Rover, Audi and Lexus operators will also have their vehicles impounded for 60 days, just for the hell of it. Doing it in (S)Lower Merion will double the fine, just because I said so!
If I rear-end you again because you stopped short to avoid missing another $tarbuck$ and your $8, 10-ounce fix, you deserved it! 5 minutes away from your grande latte and a little acquaintance with some white compound, Maguire's Carnauba and elbow grease will save you a phone call to your insurance company.
35 mph will be the minimum speed on four-lane roads. No liberal, small-town excuses.
The responsibilities of local governments will be as follows: Safety (police, fire, EMS), sanitation, providing utilities, maintaining local roads, and zoning development. Everything else, including education and the feeding, housing and clothing of "the poor," shall be the responsibility of private enterprises and faith-based organizations.
Absent my realtor and a few politicos, my IQ is greater than the sum total of the population of my new town!

Well,...365 days and just over 7500 hits later,....and still more to blog about in 2011! Oh, goodie! Obama gets to sit out the last two years of his junta,...I mean, adminstration!

The Clintons Continued March Towards Irrelevancy,....

Things continue to get nice and contentious in the Chicago mayor's race: Today, mayoral hopeful Carol Moseley Braun added her own stern warning to Bill Clinton not to campaign for his old pal Rahm Emanuel. The former senator says Clinton will risk his relations with the black community if he follows through on plans to help Emanuel ahead of the February vote, reports Lynn Sweet at the Chicago Sun-Times.

"Bill Clinton is an outsider parachuting in to support another outsider," said Braun. "He should stay home and avoid the cold." Her statement follows that of fellow black candidate Rep. Danny Davis, who yesterday said Clinton's ties with African Americans will be "fractured and perhaps even broken" if he steps in, notes the AP. The reason for the quick responses: Blacks make up 35% of the city's population, and both candidates need a strong showing against heavily favored Emanuel.

Merry CHRISTmas!!!

And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

7And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

8And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Advancing but Overshadowing Tradition,..

They may be cool, but they’re just not safe: fire departments around the country are getting rid of their classic poles, Time reports. Instead, they’re opting for stairs and slides. “The pole is something we associated with as kids," says a Seattle architect. "But the pole has been one of the biggest sources of firefighter injury”—resulting in a $13 million lawsuit in the city, which has banned poles.

Some fire stations still have poles, but the National Fire Protection Association is working on getting rid of them, or at least enclosing them “so nobody stumbles into it in the middle of the night,” says a former fire chief.

And the Bigger Dumb-A** Is,...??

NewsCore - New York Jets defensive end Shaun Ellis has been sued over a 2008 incident in which he allegedly threw a large snowball at a football fan's face, TMZ reported Monday.

According to the lawsuit, Ellis "stopped, picked up a large block or chunk of packed snow ... and threw it into the crowd" following a 2008 game against the Seattle Seahawks that saw the Jets eliminated from the playoffs. The snowball struck a man named Robert Larson in the face.

Larson alleges that Ellis targeted him with the snowball because he was waving a pro-Seahawks sign, which can be seen in a YouTube video of the incident. He is seeking undisclosed damages for physical injury, humiliation, mental distress, pain and loss of wages.

Notice, fans, that this mo-ron picked a NY-area stadium to throw a snowball at a fan.  At least he's smart enough to know not to do it in Philly, where your average Iggles fans comes pre-loaded with a six-pack of snowballs, all aimed at the opposition!

Repeat after me: Cliff Lee is the smartest man in baseball!!

The DREAM Dies,....

An immigration bill that would blaze a trail to legal status for hundreds of thousands of undocumented students went down in flames in the Senate on Saturday, delivering a critical blow to Democrats and Hispanic activists.

Even though the House approved the DREAM Act last week, the Senate fell five votes short of the 60 needed Saturday to advance the bill past Republican opposition.

President Obama said in a statement it was "incredibly disappointing" that Senate Republicans blocked the bill.

The DREAM Act, which opponents have decried as a "nightmare," is now likely to languish for years with Republicans taking back control of the House and picking up an additional handful of seats in the Senate next month.

I know I'm a little behind the flow of things, but in between jumping for joy on this one, notice again the accompanying picture:

How's That Whole "Climate Change" BS Working Out for You, Algore?

Hundreds of passengers slept in airports in France and Germany as they waited for their cancelled flights to be rescheduled

Thousands of flights and train services have been cancelled across Europe because of snow and ice, leaving many travellers stranded.

Few flights were leaving London Heathrow, Europe's busiest airport, and one third of flights were cancelled in major hubs like Paris and Frankfurt.

Departures from Brussels airport were to be cancelled until Wednesday due to a lack of de-icing liquid.

Roads in a number of countries have been described as treacherous.

The UK, France and Germany were among the worst-hit areas, with forecasters warning of freezing weather all week.

There were severe delays on the Eurostar rail service between the UK and France and Belgium, and Thalys trains between France and Belgium were also affected as speed restrictions hit rail travel in England and northern France.

Lines of delayed passengers snaked for several hundred metres outside London's St Pancras station, and Eurostar - which has been turning away even those with bookings - urged travellers to cancel or postpone their trips if possible.

THIS is News??

Barack Obama's second year as president is ending on a low note in the eyes of American voters, according to a Fox News poll released Thursday.

The president continues to suffer from upside-down job ratings, and the number who thinks he will be re-elected is down significantly. A slim majority now says the country would be better off with someone else as president. Even so, more voters would still rather have Obama as president right now than George W. Bush.

These are just some of the findings from the latest Fox News national poll of registered voters.

Expectations for Obama's presidency have declined: 29 percent of voters expect Obama to rate as either “one of the country’s greatest” or as a “good” president. That’s down from 43 percent who felt that way a year ago -- and down dramatically from 62 percent who had similarly high expectations soon after he was elected (December 2008).

In addition, the number of Democrats who think Obama will be “one of the country’s greatest presidents” stands at 9 percent -- down from a high of 30 percent in 2008.

Should we now call him "The One and Done?"

From the "Color Me Shocked" Files,...

Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore said he has made available $20,000 to help jailed Wikileaks founder Julian Assange make bail in Sweden.

"Yesterday, in the Westminster Magistrates Court in London, the lawyers for WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange presented to the judge a document from me stating that I have put up $20,000 of my own money to help bail Mr. Assange out of jail," Moore said in a statement posted online.

Filmmakers Ken Loach and John Pilger and writer Jemima Kahn joined Moore in the contributing to Assange's bail fund, Moore said.

Moore also offered "the assistance of my website, my servers, my domain names and anything else I can do to keep WikiLeaks alive and thriving."

NEW YORK -- Cliff Lee is returning to the Philadelphia Phillies, turning down an extra $50 million from the New York Yankees to rejoin the team that traded him a year ago.

The free-agent pitcher reached a preliminary agreement on a $100 million, five-year contract with the Phillies on Monday night, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press.

The agreement is subject to the 32-year-old left-hander passing a physical, the person said on condition of anonymity because the agreement was not final.

The Yankees and Texas Rangers had been considered the front-runners
, but the Phillies wound up with the most-prized free agent of the offseason, reaching a deal that gives them a dominant rotation that likely is the strongest in the majors.

Lee, the 2008 AL Cy Young Award winner, joins reigning NL Cy Young winner Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels in a fearsome foursome.

Michael Moore to Be Decapitated!

The conservative Daily Caller is tickled that Michael Moore is back for a return visit to a luxury fat camp in Miami. It ticks off features of the $4,500-a-week spa such as "aqua-thermal bathing experiences" and "Finnish saunas" and concludes: "It is unknown whether the Communist Cuban health care system, which Moore has praised, offers its citizens refreshing stays at luxurious weight loss resorts." DREAM?? More Like National Nightmare,...

WASHINGTON -- Less than 24 hours after the House carved out a path to legalization for hundreds of thousands of foreign-born youngsters brought to this country illegally, their hopes of legal status are likely to be dashed in the Senate.

Democrats face an uphill climb to gather the 60 votes needed in a vote expected Thursday to advance the so-called DREAM Act over opposition by most Republicans and a handful of their own members.

The House passed the legislation Wednesday night after Democratic leaders painstakingly lined up the votes to push it through.

(snip)

Critics denounce the bill as a backdoor amnesty grant that would encourage more foreigners to sneak into the United States in hopes of eventually being legalized as well.

(snip)

The legislation would give hundreds of thousands of young illegal immigrants brought to the United States before the age of 16, and who have been here for five years and graduated from high school or gained an equivalency degree, a chance to gain legal status if they joined the military or attended college.

Great!  Let's give every nation that has an axe to grind against us an open opportunity to create another Fort Hood incident!!

Democrats and Demagogues,....

As you can tell from yesterday's post, I've been otherwise occupied and therefore I haven't kept up with my favorite comic book, the Philadelphia Weakly, so I apparently missed another puff (-puff-pass) piece on Mayor Michael "Squidward" Nutter.

So, imagine reading the following op-ed reply from one of the PW's Mensa members: "Not voting for Nutter is pretty much a vote for the Republican. Do you think a Republican is going to do any better? (Take a look at the governor of New Jersey.)"

Yeah,...because the recent track record of the urban/Democrat/labor union gestalt is such a winner!

Let's look at that now-Republican led State of New Jersey: Under DEMOCRAT Governor Jon Corzine, the Jersey populace was taxed until stones bled! And of course REPUBLICAN Governor Chris Christie is so unpopular with the media. He dared,..DARED to flip a labor union, namely the NJSEA, the bird for turning out more McDonald's burger flippers than college-primed leaders.

And how about DEMOCRAT-led Newark, NJ? One-half of the police force laid off before CHRISTmas?? Fire companies closed or transferred to "as needed" status??

Or even better, DEMOCRAT-led Camden? Christ on a crutch, the state practically owns the city! I guess a big fish tank and a baseball team one step above amateurs doesn't generate enough revenue to pay for every citizen's meals AND keep them simultaneously safe?

While we're at it, let's go large and look across the mighty Delaware River at Philadelphia: Mayor Nutter has a city with THREE major sports franchises, all perpetually competitive and two having reached their respective "big shows" in recent years; the city has world-class hospitals and universities (and THEIR top-notch sports programs); it has, or had, pre-recession, a thriving restaurant trade; Philadelphia has a world-class art museum and science center. Yet, despite all of this tax-generating potential, we have a part-time fire department leaving citizen after citizen dead from house fires, a police force rife with corruption, a DEMOCRAT-led school district making up the rules as it goes along and the city on the verge of economic collapse; not unlike the rest of Pennsylvania under DEMOCRAT and champion free food finder Ed Rendell!

Yeah,...God forbid we NOT vote for Democrats and let the Republicans back in charge. If that happens, we might have (gasp!) something called prosperity (if you're an average graduate of an urban school district, look the word up).

**THAT'S MY OPINION AND YOU'RE ENTITLED TO IT!!**

A Sad Passing,...

Turn out the lights,....

SANTA FE, N.M. -- Don Meredith, one of the most recognizable figures of the early Dallas Cowboys and an original member of ABC's "Monday Night Football" broadcast team, died Sunday. He was 72.

Meredith's wife, Susan, told The Associated Press on Monday her husband died in Santa Fe after suffering a brain hemorrhage and lapsing into a coma. She says a private graveside ceremony is being planned and that family members were traveling to Santa Fe.

"He was the best there was," she said, describing him as kind, warm and funny. "We lost a good one."

Meredith played for the Cowboys from 1960-1968, becoming the starting quarterback in 1965. While he never led the Cowboys to the Super Bowl, Meredith was one of the franchise's first stars.

Over his nine-year career, Meredith threw for 17,199 yards and 111 touchdowns. He retired unexpectedly before the 1969 season.

Just two years after retiring from football, Meredith joined Keith Jackson and Howard Cosell in the broadcast booth as part of the "Monday Night Football" crew.

He quickly became one of the most popular broadcasters in sports because of his folksy sayings and country humor.

Meredith's signature call was singing the famous Willie Nelson song "Turn Out the Lights" when it appeared a game's outcome had been determined.

Yes, Virginia, There IS a Christmas, (Even if Mayor Squidward says "No!"),...

Inquirer Columnist

I'd like to thank Mayor Nutter for saving Christmas.

On Wednesday afternoon he announced that the city had overreacted in changing the name of the traditional German Christmas Village on Dilworth Plaza to simply "Holiday Village."

"Christmas Village" it will be once again.

And here I had been ready to bury the decision.

Why not? Pulling the word Christmas off the sign over the village gate seemed ridiculous on Tuesday afternoon when I walked around that dollop of Deutschland outside City Hall, sampling the hot nuts and sizzling bratwursts, and ogling the tiny elves and fat Santas.

After two years of trying, they'd finally built a pretty good Christmas market in Center City. Then they tried to paper over what it really was.

The name change struck me as way too P.C. as well as an offense to those who love language.

I stood in a media scrum Tuesday - news of the name change had made the Drudge Report - as city Managing Director Richard Negrin explained how he'd received complaints from city workers and residents about the market, how unwelcoming it was to those who don't do Christmas.

He told of how a little girl and her father had been walking by the market the other day, and the girl, who was Jewish, had asked, "Don't we get a village?"

Yes, dear, I thought. We call it New York.

So I was a little hostile. I was completely unbothered by a celebration of Christmas at City Hall, and was fully prepared on Thursday night, when the mayor was to light the "Holiday Trees," as they're called in a media release, to see more waffling in action.

Yes, it's the Christmas season. Get over it. I have.
