Navy Officer Affirms Assertions About Pre-9/11 Data on Atta

WASHINGTON, Aug. 22 - An active-duty Navy captain has become the second military officer to come forward publicly to say that a secret defense intelligence program tagged the ringleader of the Sept. 11 attacks as a possible terrorist more than a year before the attacks.

The officer, Scott J. Phillpott, said in a statement today that he could not discuss details of the military program, which was called Able Danger, but confirmed that its analysts had identified the Sept. 11 ringleader, Mohamed Atta, by name by early 2000. "My story is consistent," said Captain Phillpott, who managed the program for the Pentagon's Special Operations Command. "Atta was identified by Able Danger by January-February of 2000."

His comments came on the same day that the Pentagon's chief spokesman, Lawrence Di Rita, told reporters that the Defense Department had been unable to validate the assertions made by an Army intelligence veteran, Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer, and now backed up by Captain Phillpott, about the early identification of Mr. Atta.

I have highlighted the last paragraph because that story, from the WaPo, is now making the rounds amongst the leftist bloggers (liberal bias?? Nah!!!)

WASHINGTON -- The Pentagon has been unable to validate claims that a secret intelligence unit identified Sept. 11 hijacker Mohamed Atta as a terrorist more than a year before the attacks, a Defense Department spokesman said Monday.

Larry Di Rita said that some research into the matter continues, but thus far there has been no evidence that the intelligence unit, called "Able Danger," came up with information as specific as an officer associated with the program has asserted.


"What we found are mostly general references to terrorist cells," Di Rita said, without providing detail.

Shaffer's attorney, Mark Zaid, responded that Shaffer's assertions will be proven.

"Additional Able Danger team members are coming forward to specifically validate and support Mr. Shaffer's account that several of the 9/11 hijackers, including Mohammed Atta, were identified through their efforts prior to the terrorist attack," Zaid said.

On Monday, Navy Capt. Scott Philpott told Fox News Channel that he had also told the Sept. 11 commission about Atta and Able Danger. In a statement sent to Fox, Philpott wrote: "My story has remained consistent. Atta was identified by Able Danger in early 2000."

Zaid said the Pentagon is looking for documents in the wrong places and talking to the wrong people.

Harry Belafonte Calls Black Republicans 'Tyrants'

Atlanta (CNSNews.com) - Celebrity activist Harry Belafonte referred to prominent African-American officials in the Bush administration as "black tyrants" at a weekend march, and he also compared the administration to Adolf Hitler's Nazi Germany.

Belafonte, a featured speaker at Saturday's march in Atlanta commemorating the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Voting Rights Act, previously ignited a political controversy in 2002 when he likened then-Secretary of State Colin Powell to a "house slave."

Belafonte used a Hitler analogy when asked about what impact prominent blacks such as former Secretary of State Powell and current Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice had on the Bush administration's relations with minorities.

"Hitler had a lot of Jews high up in the hierarchy of the Third Reich. Color does not necessarily denote quality, content or value," Belafonte said in an exclusive interview with Cybercast News Service.

Another prominent celebrity marcher at Saturday's civil rights march also employed Nazi analogies to the GOP and conservatives.

Civil rights activist Dick Gregory mocked the existence of African-American conservatives in America.

"They (black conservatives) have a right to exist, but why would I want to walk around with a swastika on my shirt after the way Hitler done messed it (the swastika symbol) up?" Gregory said in an interview with Cybercast News Service. (The swastika was an ancient symbol generally regarded an emblem of strength and luck before the Nazi Party adopted it in 1920.)
"So why would I want to call myself a conservative after the way them white racists thugs have used that word to hide behind? They call themselves new Republicans," Gregory said.

Farrakhan: Mexican President Was Right

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan said Mexican President Vicente Fox was right to say that Mexican immigrants take jobs ``that not even blacks want.''

Although Fox was sharply criticized for his remarks by some black leaders, Farrakhan said Sunday that blacks do not want to go to farms and pick fruit because they already ``picked enough cotton.''

Civil rights leaders including Jesse Jackson and the Rev. Al Sharpton have called on Fox to apologize for the remark. Fox has said he was commenting on the contributions that Mexicans make to the United States, and did not mean any offense.

An Apology,...

I haven't posted much lately because of two things:

1) I am leaving for England next week and I still have quite a bit to do before I leave, plus some of the required documents have only started to arrive!

2) Between my anticipation on taking my first big vacation in years and some increasingly stressful situations at work, I find myself brain-drained by the time I get home and go on-line.

That said,...I still have some spark left in me,...

Where's the Honor?

That's the rhetorical question of grieving mother-turned-professional-whiner Cindy Sheehan.

Here's the honor:

• All soldiers, sailors and Marines, even Mrs. Sheehan's son, VOLUNTEER to defend this country from aggressors, both foreign and domestic. They don't get to pick and choose which ones to fight.
  
• There's honor in knowing that for every Islamic fundamentalist killed in Iraq, there's one less that doesn't get that chance over here.
• And for every 20 we kill over there that are replaced by their supporters in Syria and Iran, that's one less cell planning to destroy another American icon.
• There's honor in every school being rebuilt by our troops and the troops of our allies, despite the fact that outside aggressors just go ahead and blow them up again - we keep rebuilding them.
• There's honor in every hospital rebuilt and restocked, so that Iraqis won't die needlessly for lack of adequate care available to us in the FREE Western Hemisphere.

Mrs. Sheehan, your son is dead and there's nothing GWB can do to bring him back, nor the 1800+ other VOLUNTEER Americans that gave their lives for this country.

So,....I say this with all the vitriol I can muster:

THERE'S YOUR HONOR, YOU WHINEY LITTLE BITCH!!!

Writing in The Seattle Post-Intelligence there, columnist Robert Jamieson, no conservative, put it this way: "Trouble is Sheehan is not sincerely interested in meeting Bush for a private, heartfelt chat about her understandable anguish and lingering questions. She wants to make a public splash by allowing critics of the unjustified war in Iraq to use her as a human bazooka against Bush." Well, I believe Jamieson's analysis is correct. And I point to this. If Cindy Sheehan is really about getting the troops out of Iraq, why isn't she traveling to Washington to stand outside Hillary Clinton's home? The senator supports the war. Will Ms. Sheehan go to Nantucket and stand outside John Kerry's beach house? He isn't a cut and run club member.

Trouble Brewing in Iran?

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) - At least 17 people have been killed and many more wounded during anti-government protests in the western province of Kurdistan, a human rights group said.

Human Rights Watch blamed the casualties on Iranian security forces. Interior Ministry officials acknowledged deaths and detentions in the recent unrest in Kurdistan province, but they denied that the security forces fired on protesters.

Human Rights Watch said it obtained a list of 17 protesters killed. Residents told the human rights group that cities in Kurdistan remain surrounded by Revolutionary Guard troops and that undeclared martial law is in force.

(CNN) -- New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson declared a state of emergency Friday in four counties along the Mexican border that he said have been "devastated" by crimes such as the smuggling of drugs and illegal immigrants.

"[It] is in an extreme state of disrepair and is inadequately funded or safeguarded to protect the lives and property of New Mexican citizens."

New Mexico shares 180 miles of border with the Mexican state of Chihuahua.

"The situation is out of hand," Richardson said Friday night on CNN, noting that one 54-mile stretch is particularly bad.

It (the Mexican government) said some of Richardson's views stem from "generalizations that do not correspond to the spirit of cooperation and understanding that are required for dealing with problems of common concern along the border."

Is it any surprise that, after being shunned by the MSM for months, suddenly Rep. Curt Weldon (R. Pa) is now being hounded by them after stunning revelations in his new book, Countdown to Terror, show that the government knew about Mohammed Atta as far back as 1999??

From the foxnews.com report:

Staff assistants to the Sept. 11 commission are planning a trip to the National Archives to retrieve their notes on a U.S. military unit's information that four of the Sept. 11, 2001 hijackers were inside the United States a year before the attacks, FOX News has learned.

Defense Department documents show that the information, developed by a classified defense intelligence unit dubbed "Able Danger," wasn't handed over to the FBI because of concerns about pursuing information on foreigners admitted to the country for permanent residence.

"The Sept. 11 commission (search) did not learn of any U.S. government knowledge prior to 9/11 of surveillance of Mohammed Atta or of his cell," said (Lee)Hamilton, a former Democratic congressman from Indiana. "Had we learned of it obviously it would've been a major focus of our investigation."

Hamilton's remarks Tuesday followed findings by Rep. Curt Weldon (search), R-Pa., vice chairman of the House Armed Services and Homeland Security committees, that made front-page news.

Weldon told FOX News on Wednesday that staff members of the Sept. 11 commission were briefed at least once by officials on Able Danger, but that he does not believe the message was sent to the panel members themselves. He also said some phone calls made by military officials with Able Danger to the commission staff went unreturned.

"Why weren't they briefed? Was there some deliberate attempt at the staff level of the 9/11 commission to steer the commissioners away from Able Danger because of where it might lead?" Weldon asked. "Why was there no mention of Able Danger?"

According to Weldon, Able Danger identified Atta, Marwan al-Shehhi (search), Khalid al-Mihdar (search) and Nawaf al-Hazmi (search) as members of a cell Able Danger code-named "Brooklyn" because of some loose connections to New York City.

Weldon said that in September 2000, the unit recommended on three separate occasions that its information on the hijackers be given to the FBI "so they could bring that cell in and take out the terrorists." However, Weldon said Pentagon lawyers rejected the recommendation, arguing that Atta and the others were in the country legally so information on them could not be shared with law enforcement.

"Lawyers within the administration - and we're talking about the Clinton administration, not the Bush administration - said 'you can't do it,'" and put post-its over Atta's face, Weldon said. "They said they were concerned about the political fallout that occurred after Waco ... and the Branch Davidians."

The Jetsons had the right idea with Rosie. And now the latest invention from Osaka University professor Hiroshi Ishiguro might make it that much easier for us to live the Jetson lifestyle.

Ishiguro recently developed the first female android, named Repliee Q1Expo. The android is unique in its design because of its striking resemblance to a human being, that of a Japanese woman.

"I have developed many robots before," Ishiguro told BBC.com, "but I soon realized the importance of its appearance. A human-like appearance gives a robot a strong feeling of presence." How lifelike is she? She appears to breathe and can flutter her eyelids. Rather than hard plastic for skin she has flexible silicone.

Repliee Q1Expo has 42 actuators in her upper body, powered by a nearby air compressor, programmed to allow her to move like a human.

ACLU seeks volunteers to keep an eye on Minutemen project

The American Civil Liberties Union will train volunteers to monitor the Minuteman project along the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas and New Mexico, and document any abuses of human rights or violence, said Claudia Guevara, a coordinator for the ACLU's Legal Observers program in El Paso.

El Paso County Sheriff Leo Samaniego and other sheriff's officials met Friday with Minuteman organizers who requested the meeting, said Rick Glancey, spokesman for the Sheriff's Office.

"Sheriff Samaniego characterized the meeting as positive," Glancey said. He added that organizers were advised in writing of Texas laws they must observe, and were told to call 911 if they encounter situations that require law enforcement.

"The message they conveyed is that they believe the Border Patrol is doing a great job, but they don't have the resources they need to do what is required to secure the border," said Glancey, who did not know which Minuteman organization met with Samaniego.

Florida State to Challenge Ban on Mascots

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Fed up with what it considers ``hostile'' and ``abusive'' American Indian nicknames, the NCAA announced Friday it would shut those words and images out of postseason tournaments, a move that left some school officials angry and threatening legal action.

Starting in February, any school with a nickname or logo considered racially or ethnically ``hostile'' or ``abusive'' by the NCAA would be prohibited from using them in postseason events. Mascots will not be allowed to perform at tournament games, and band members and cheerleaders will also be barred from using American Indians on their uniforms beginning in 2008.

Affected schools were quick to complain, and Florida State - home of the Seminoles - threatened legal action.

``That the NCAA would now label our close bond with the Seminole people as culturally 'hostile and abusive' is both outrageous and insulting,'' Florida State president T.K. Wetherell said in a statement.

``I intend to pursue all legal avenues to ensure that this unacceptable decision is overturned, and that this university will forever be associated with the 'unconquered' spirit of the Seminole Tribe of Florida,'' he added.

The committee also recommended that schools follow the examples of Wisconsin and Iowa by refusing to schedule contests against schools that use American Indian nicknames.

An Anti-ACLU Rant for 8/4/05

One would think that an organization that claims it's purpose is to protect our Constitutional rights would readily defend our second amendment. Sadly, this is not the case. The ACLU is completely absent in defending this right, and while it has not become active in fighting it, its policy clearly shows why they don't defend it....they don't believe in it!

ACLU POLICY "The ACLU agrees with the Supreme Court's long-standing interpretation of the Second Amendment [as set forth in the 1939 case, U.S. v. Miller] that the individual's right to bear arms applies only to the preservation or efficiency of a well-regulated militia. Except for lawful police and military purposes, the possession of weapons by individuals is not constitutionally protected. Therefore, there is no constitutional impediment to the regulation of firearms." --Policy #47

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."

Can anyone see the contradiction between the Constitution's actual text with that of the ACLU?

"Gun prohibitionists often cite this case for the proposition that the court held that the Second Amendment only protected the right of the states` National Guard to have government issued arms ( i.e., the "Collective Rights" theory). This is an untruth. In fact, the court held that the entire populace constituted the "militia," and that the Second Amendment protected the right of the individual to keep and bear militia type arms."Source

So the ACLU wants to use dated cases to back up its purely politically biased policy? How about this:

"All of the evidence indicates that the Second Amendment, like other parts of the Bill of Rights, applies to and protects individual Americans."

"We conclude that the phrase 'bear arms' refers generally to the carrying or wearing of arms. . . [The] argument that 'bear arms' was exclusively, or even usually, used to only refer to the carrying or wearing of arms by a soldier or militiaman must be rejected."

"We find that the history of the Second Amendment reinforces the plain meaning of its text, namely that it protects individual Americans in their right to keep and bear arms whether or not they are a member of a select militia or performing active military service or training." Fifth Circuit of Appeals 2001

The Supreme Court therefore views the words "the people" in the Second Amendment to have the same meaning as in the First, Fourth, Ninth, and Tenth Amendments. If "the people" really meant the right of states to maintain a militia, then we would be left with the absurd notion that only the states have the right to peaceably assemble, only the states have the right to be secure in their persons and property, etc. The Supreme Court's position is indisputable: the Second Amendment protects the individual right to bear arms. Also instructive is the Report of the Subcommittee on the Constitution of the Committee on the Judiciary, United States Senate, 97th Congress, Second Session (February 1982)

These are much more current sources to use for interpretation than one from 1939! As a matter of fact, see what the Supreme Court has said in 35 other cases on gun rights here. You will find that in an overwhelming majority of the cases they have said that the second amendment protects an "individual's" right to bear arms.

So, if you follow the rationale of the ACLU....I guess those fine pilgrims who settled this great nation had no right to hunt for food using a gun, or protect their families from wild animals and criminals! As a matter of fact I wouldn't have those same rights today!

Throughout our history Americans have never been denied their right to own a gun as an individual. Don't you think Congress would have intervened early in our history if their intentions were as the ACLU believes?

This issue isn't even about gun control, according to the ACLU we don't even have the right to own one. What more control do you need?

Any intelligent person who wants to study or debate this issue seriously should start with S. Levinson, The Embarrassing Second Amendment. Professor Levinson of the University of Texas was a devoted liberal who set out to prove that the Second Amendment did not protect an individual's right to bear arms. To his great embarrassment, he found the evidence to be overwhelmingly to the contrary. He had the integrity to admit it, for which he deserves utmost respect. He does not like gun ownership, any more than I like flag-burning, but he recognized that the right does exist, and is an important inclusion to our rights protected by the constitution, despite whether one likes it or not.

Even the majority of democrats that fight for gun control would not go as far as the ACLU has in it's philosphy towards the second amendment. Criminals would obtain their weapons illegally anyway, and it would leave the rest of us two choices; go defenseless or become criminals ourselves in the process of securing our own means of protection.


Thank God for the NRA, and thank God that the ACLU has not been active in pushing it's interpretation of the second amendment. Let's hope it stays that way. In parting I leave you with some quotes.

Thought Number 1 -
Supreme Court nominee John Roberts, already the target of the MSM lefties, is now being investigated by the NYT over his children's adoption records??

Why, oh, why, do we continue to let the MSM tail wag the legislative dog??

Thought Number 2 -
Anibel Cruz, Sr., father of one of the three boys who died when they became trapped in the trunk of an "abandoned" car, is now suing the City of Camden, the Camden PD, and Toyota.

Several Inkwaster reports (here) and (here) point out several glaringly obvious truths. So, what is Anibel Cruz, Sr. going to get from this suit? Will it buy back the life of his son? Will it make any changes in the defendants policies?

Let's look at few things here,...

• The car was an early-90s model and Toyota has long since fixed the most egregious deficiencies that lead to the deaths of the three children
• A report by the City of Camden, in essence, admits to mistakes made in the search. Changes in policies are being implemented and heads will eventually roll.

Since when did our children become a monetary asset and parental liability/culpability lead to financial gains??

Answers to a Philly Inkwaster Quiz

Yesterday, Tom Ferrick's column was titled "Testing your IQ on Black History."

I personally believe that the textbook that will be used, The African-American Odyssey, will be denounced by the NAACP as a distortion.

I'm not going to re-type the questions, because that would take up too much space, so I'll post the answers I think you'll get to these questions after the first semester of African-American history in Philly's public schools:

1 - True. Those nasty, white Europeans overran African and toppled the "Sun-High" Empire, then shipped all of the Africans to the US.

2 - A - The 13 British Colonies (there were no slaves anywhere else) See question 1.

3 - True. Those mean, white slave dealers mistreated all of the slaves.

4 - True. Especially when the Democrats took over in the Northern States.

5 - None of the choices are correct. 100% of all Southerners owned slaves.

6 - True, because the unions always take care of blacks.

7 - The answer d - Zero, is correct.

8 - Whoever he was, he was a relative of George Bush.

9 - False.

10 - False. The US Voting Rights Act empowered black voters, but the Republicans own all of the judges, so they keep stealing the elections.


BTW - If you think my proposed answers sound outrageous, you haven't paid much attention to what the NAACP has been saying.
