Democrats Grasping at Straws, Now

The DNC,..and media outlet Huffington Post ('cause (Hot) Air America is slowly dying) posts this smear piece today:

George Allen's Race Problem (91 comments )

Political Wire received an advance copy of a New Republic profile of Sen. George Allen (R-VA) in which author Ryan Lizza finds many of Allen's high school classmates surprised that he's considering running for president because of the racist tendencies he displayed as a teenager. They say he "plastered the school with confederate flags" and drove a red Mustang with a confederate flag on the front.

Then Lizza got a copy of Allen's high school yearbook:

I stared closely at Allen's smirk in his photo, weighing whether his old classmates were just out to destroy him. And then I noticed something on his collar. It's hard to make out, but then it becomes obvious. Seventeen-year-old George Allen is wearing a Confederate flag pin.

When confronted with this evidence, Allen sent an email through an aide with this explanation: "When I was in high school in California, I generally bucked authority and the rebel flag was just a way to express that attitude."

Some commentary postings:

This is news? The GOP is synonomous with racism. They may not parade around in the white hoods, but the KKK is very much alive and well in the heart of the GOP.

The TrekMedic is incredulous! Oh, really,...midwestvoter needs to explain this one:

An Anti-ACLU Rant for 4/27/06

Many of us find it disturbing to hear the sympathetic apologists defend the ACLU's work to protect pedophiles over our children. We watch the ACLU fight for sex offenders to live next to Elementary schools, and playgrounds. We watched in horror as the ACLU defended NAMBLA, under the banner of free speech, to plan and talk about how to rape young boys. It doubles the anger to hear the apologists defend the ACLU with some twisted talk perverting the Constitution.

In Mississippi, billboards of sex offenders and child molesters are being errected, but of course the ACLU oppose this. Of course all of these things we hear excused away by liberal apologists, but lets take a deeper look at the ACLU's agenda. Let's take a deeper look at the industry that the ACLU wants to defend here.

"It would be a mistake to think that all the children who are being exploited sexually are kidnapped by "kid porn" operators. Many of the children are being sold to people by their parents. In some cases, the parents have agreed to perform incest with their children. Gonorrhea of the throat in infants as young as nine and eighteen months has been reported".source
This is as sick as it gets folks. But the ACLU believes it is a freedom being denied to people. And before liberals start to ask. Yes, the ACLU has a current policy advocating the legalization of child porn distribution and possession.

"Students of liberty, from John Stuart Mill to Thomas Emerson, have all intentionally excluded children from their formula for freedom. The ACLU does not. Not even when the subject is pornography.Quote from Twilight Of Liberty

In 1982, the ACLU, in an amicus role, lost in a unanimous decision in the Supreme Court to legalize the sale and distribution of child pornography."

The case is...: New York Vs Ferber, 458 U.S. 747
It can be found here.

The ACLU's position is this: criminalize the production but legalize the sale and distribution of child pornography. This is the kind of lawyerly distinction that no one on the Supreme Court found convincing. And with good reason: as long as a free market in child pornography exists, there will always be some producers willing to risk prosecution. Beyond this, there is also the matter of how the sale of child pornography relates either to free speech or the ends of good government. But most important, the central issue is whether a free society should legalize transactions that involve the wholesale sexploitation of children for profit."

The ACLU objects to the idea that porn movie producers be required to maintain records of ages of its performers; this would be " a gross violation of privacy."Quotes from Twilight Of Liberty

I don't think that any other ACLU stance evokes more anger from me, than this one. I mean, how sick can you get? Do these people not have a conscience at all, or are they just plain EVIL? How can one argue this sick, twisted view in the name of "protecting civil liberties?" Please, some liberal out there that loves defending this evil organization...explain this to us. No wonder the ACLU doesn't want the public to have access to its policy guide!

Since the ACLU thinks that child pornography should be legal, it is not surprising to read that it is against making it a felony to advertise, sell, purchase, barter, exchange, give, or receive child pornography. It is particularly distressed about the prohibition on advertisement, arguing that "the law cannot expect every publisher to decode every advertisment for some hidden and sinister meaning," as if it took a technician-armed with a special decoding device-to ferret out pictures of children ludely exhibiting their genitals.Quote from Twilight Of Liberty

As legislative counsel for the ACLU in 1985, Barry Lynn told the U.S. Attorney General's Commission on Pornography (of which Focus on the Family President Dr. James C. Dobson was a member) that child pornography was protected by the First Amendment. While production of child porn could be prevented by law, he argued, its distribution could not be. A few years later (1988), Lynn told the Senate Judiciary Committee that even requiring porn producers to maintain records of their performers' ages was impermissible.
"If there is no federal record-keeping requirement for the people portrayed in Road and Track or Star Wars," he said, "there can be no such requirement for Hustler or Debbie Does Dallas."Quoted Reference

Is the ACLU completely retarded? I would love to think there was some kind of saving grace for an organization that says it is about protecting civil liberties, but with positions like this...which you KNOW are against the will of the people, I don't know if there is. My head is about to explode just typing this stuff!

Gonorrhea of the throat in infants as young as nine and eighteen months has been reported". source
This is as sick as it gets folks. But the ACLU believes it is a freedom being denied to people. And before liberals start to ask. Yes, the ACLU has a current policy advocating the legalization of child porn distribution and possession. Yes, the ACLU still currently defends pedophile organization's.

"Mere possession should not be a crime," said John Roberts, executive director of the Boston branch of the American Civil Liberties Union."

They are a radically, out of control organization that consistently goes too far, and they must be stopped, before they destroy our Nation. And as for those who support the ACLU, this is the kind of crap your money goes to. As a parent of a 5 year old child, and as a citizen of this great nation, I am outraged! A Great Rumination on Freedom

HT to Anthony at Opinionnation for this:

To The Fellow American

In the gray world where the necessary evils reign, life hangs in the balance. Freedom itself, when at risk, will circumvent the limitations that its enemy refuses to live by. Those limitations, the restraint so aptly prided, must be drawn down for survival. And make no mistake, victory depends on it. One can flinch at the necessity of tactical warfare or one can accept reality in hopes that after the bloodshed our values will become stronger. Naïve ideals give us strength but at the same time they have the potential to cause great harm; because from the winds of the cloud suffering and death will be found. The freedom, as I know it, will stop at nothing to prevent that occurrence. Although, you might disagree, deep down I think you understand. When serious situations become deadly remember that we are one despite the intolerance and misguided philosophies. And remember, there is a fine line between dissent and treachery.

Pleasing Puppies:

How To Destroy America

What started as an urban legend has been proven true at Snopes.com:

Richard Lamm, former governor of Colorado, posited these ideas in 2005:

"Here is how they do it," Lamm said: First to destroy America, "Turn America into a bilingual or multi-lingual and bicultural country. History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however, it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. The historical scholar Seymour Lipset put it this way: 'The histories of bilingual and bi-cultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension, and tragedy. Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, Lebanon all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficulties with Basques, Bretons, and Corsicans."

Lamm went on: Second, to destroy America, "Invent 'multiculturalism' and encourage immigrants to maintain their culture. I would make it an article of belief that all cultures are equal. That there are no cultural differences. I would make it an article of faith that the Black and Hispanic dropout rates are due to prejudice and discrimination by the majority. Every other explanation is out of bounds.

Third, "We could make the United States a 'Hispanic Quebec' without much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As Benjamin Schwarz said in the Atlantic Monthly recently: 'The apparent success of our own multiethnic and multicultural experiment might have been achieved! Not by tolerance but by hegemony. Without the dominance that once dictated ethnocentrically and what it meant to be an American, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us together.'"

Lamm said, "I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language and culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with the salad bowl metaphor. It is important to ensure that we have various cultural subgroups living in America reinforcing their differences rather than as Americans, emphasizing their similarities."

"Fourth, I would make our fastest growing demographic group the least educated. I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated, and antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50% dropout rate from high school."

"My fifth point for destroying America would be to get big foundations and business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of 'Victimology.' I would get all minorities to think their lack of success was the fault of the majority. I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population."

At this point, the TrekMedic wonders if Jesse Jackson and/or Al Sharpton are paying attention!

"My sixth plan for America's downfall would include dual citizenship and promote divided loyalties. I would celebrate diversity over unity. I would stress differences rather than similarities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly engaged in hating each other - that is, when they are not killing each other. A diverse, peaceful, or stable society is against most historical precedent. People undervalue the unity! Unity is what it takes to keep a nation together. Look at the ancient Greeks. The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they possessed a common language and literature; and they worshiped the same gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic Games.

The TrekMedic muses:

Not to knock the good governor, but does it surprise you that all of these frightening, Medea-like points came from a Democrat??

Was It the Shout Heard 'Round the World?

Or at least, in countries with a free press?

WASHINGTON — A woman accused of heckling Chinese President Hu Jintao during a White House appearance was charged Friday in federal court with a misdemeanor of willfully intimidating, coercing, threatening and harassing a foreign official.

Wang Wenyi, 47, had obtained temporary press credentials as a reporter for a Falun Gong newspaper and positioned herself on a camera stand in front of the platform where President George W. Bush and Hu stood.

According to Secret Service translations provided in court documents, she shouted in Chinese: "Stop oppressing the Falun Gong" and "Your time is running out" and "Anything you have done will come back to you in this lifetime." She also shouted in heavily accented English: "President Bush, stop him from killing," and "President Bush, stop him from persecuting the Falun Gong."

She was waving a banner with the red and yellow colors used by Falun Gong, a spiritual movement banned in China. She kept shouting for several minutes before Secret Service agents led her off the stand.

Standing beside Bush, Hu had just begun his opening remarks when the woman started yelling. Hu paused briefly, then resumed speaking even though the woman kept screaming for several minutes before she was forcibly removed.

She was removed under the following law (Title 18, Sec 112(b)):

b) Whoever willfully -
(1) intimidates, coerces, threatens, or harasses a foreign official or an official guest or obstructs a foreign official in the performance of his duties;
(2) attempts to intimidate, coerce, threaten, or harass a foreign official or an official guest or obstruct a foreign official in the performance of his duties; or
(3) within the United States and within one hundred feet of any building or premises in whole or in part owned, used, or occupied for official business or for diplomatic, consular, or residential purposes by -
(A) a foreign government, including such use as a mission to an international organization;
(B) an international organization;
(C) a foreign official; or
(D) an official guest;
congregates with two or more other persons with intent to violate any other provision of this section; shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.

The TrekMedic muses:

Makes you wonder if Hu is finally getting the message? Well, he it might have sunk into his thick skull had it not been for this woeful act by GWB:

WASHINGTON — President Bush expressed personal regret to Chinese President Hu Jintao for a protest during an elaborate welcoming ceremony on the White House lawn Thursday.

The protester interrupted the ceremony by shouting to Bush to stop the Chinese president from "persecuting the Falun Gong."

Bush later addressed the matter when he met with Hu in the Oval Office. "He just said this was unfortunate and I'm sorry it happened," said Dennis Wilder, acting senior director for Asian affairs on the National Security Council staff.

Now,...if that heckler had been a Cuban expat from Miami giving Castro an earful, you can bet Bush would have let her continue! Why are we catering to these murdering assholes when we should be issuing just as many sanctions to them as we propose to giver Iran??

Another Victory for the Minutemen (An anti-ACLU post)

Hell,..if the government can't stop illegals, someone has to, even if the ACLU is sabotaging their efforts!

From Jay's Stop the ACLU! blog:

ACLU fails to oust Minutemen
by Jay on 04-20-06 @ 12:41 am
Filed under ACLU, Border Control/Homeland Security, News

Reported earlier here by Kender, and now picked up on WND

The American Civil Liberties Union failed an attempt to remove volunteers with the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps from Arizona state land.

Ranch owner Pat King, whose property includes some state trust land she leases, told the Arizona Daily Star newspaper the ACLU officials who instigated the complaint don’t care about her.

“So they are not really the American Civil Liberties Union are they? Because they don’t give a darn about what has happened to my constitutional rights to property,” King said.

King, according to the Daily Star, called the ACLU members misguided, out-of-town youngsters who don’t understand what people and drug smugglers have done to her land and the valley.

About 60 ACLU members have been monitoring the Minuteman volunteers since the beginning of a monthlong patrol April 1 south of Three Points, Ariz., on King’s private Anvil Ranch.

The ACLU’s Ray Ybarra complains the volunteers shine high-powered flashlights on them as they drive by.

But the Minutemen claim the ACLU members have harassed and berated them and interfered with Border Patrol apprehensions.

The president of the Minuteman Arizona chapter, Stacey O’Connell, said the border group is considering legal action.

The paper reported Ybarra contacted the Arizona State Land Department about the Minuteman presence on state trust land without permits.

An Arizona official showed up Monday night to visit the volunteers.

The issue was resolved, according to O’Connell, when volunteers presented valid permits and others promised to get them right away online.

“Nobody was escorted off state land, nobody was asked to leave,” O’Connell told the Daily Star.

Republicans are Racists!

Not!

HT to AlexC at Three Sources for this look back at history! (Read it quickly, before the MSM comes up with their own version, blaming the Republicans again)

It's hard to add to this compendium of conservative bigotry.

Let's see just how racist conservatives are...

1. Emancipation Proclamation issued by...a Republican President.

2. Slavery abolished under...a Republican President and a Republican Congress.

3. Japanese interned under a Repub...no, wait...sorry, that was a Democrat.

4. (Percentage wise), more Republicans voted for the Civil Rights Act than Democrats. They must've had some ulterior racist motive of which only they were aware.

Ugly Americans, Beautiful Flag

Caught this over at Pennsylvanian in Exile:

Charles at LGF links to a great fisking of an article on how not to offend while visiting overseas. This particular comment at the piece is a classic:

As a kid i lived for 6 years in germany (may the bastards rut in hell) It was in the 1950's so my father made sure he had an american flag on our car and that the krauts saw our stars of david. Once we got to the border he stop the car and carefully folded the American flag in the correct manner and put it away. I asked him why he did that, his answer was to tell the bastards who won the war.

A Cure for the Democratic Blahs (blah-blah-blah-blah!)

From Victor Davis Hanson at NRO:

April 13, 2006, 7:43 a.m.
Dead-end Debates
Critics need to move on.

Currently, there are many retired generals appearing in frenetic fashion on television. Sometimes they hype their recent books, or, as during the three-week war, offer sharp interviews about our supposed strategic and operational blunders in Iraq — imperial hubris, too few troops, wrong war, wrong place, and other assorted lapses.

Apart from the ethical questions involved in promoting a book or showcasing a media appearance during a time of war by offering an "inside" view unknown to others of the supposedly culpable administration of the military, what is striking is the empty nature of these controversies rehashed ad nauseam.

Imagine that, as we crossed the Rhine, retired World War II officers were still harping, in March, 1945, about who was responsible months during Operation Cobra for the accidental B-17 bombing, killing, and wounding of hundreds of American soldiers and the death of Lt. Gen. Leslie McNair; or, in the midst of Matthew Ridgeway's Korean counteroffensives, we were still bickering over MacArthur's disastrous intelligence lapses about Chinese intervention that caused thousands of casualties. Did the opponents of daylight bombing over Europe in 1943 still damn the theories of old Billy Mitchell, or press on to find a way to hit Nazi Germany hard by late 1944?

Why the US is So Far Ahead of "Old Europe"

PARIS - Warming up on the touchline, a black player jogs toward fans at the Parc des Princes soccer stadium. As he gets closer, a barrage of monkey chants explodes - "OOOH! OOOH! OOOH!"- and racist insults fill the air.

Such scenes are increasingly common at the home stadium of Paris Saint-Germain, or PSG, one of France's top soccer teams, and are finding expression in elite soccer leagues across Europe, raising fears that a global sport that calls itself "the Beautiful Game" is getting uglier.

(snip)

Soccer, with its many black stars, could be a showcase of multiracial harmony, especially in France, which draws on talent from its former African colonies.

Instead, the brawling soccer fans have emerged as the extreme fringe of a deeply troubled France - one that is grappling with stiffening resistance to immigration, protests linked to youth unemployment and the perceived threat of globalization.

Now, after the riots that engulfed immigrant-filled French suburbs last fall, beer-fueled racism in soccer has taken on an even more menacing tinge.

(snip)

PSG, where black players George Weah of Liberia and Ronaldinho of Brazil once displayed their magic, is not alone in suffering from racist outrages.

In Spain, Barcelona's Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o threatened to walk off the field after Zaragoza fans subjected him to monkey chants in February. In Italy, right-wing fans have displayed Nazi and fascist symbols and anti-Semitic banners at Rome's Stadio Olimpico.

(snip)

"Denial is a big thing among football administrators," said Piara Power, director of the British-based Kick It Out antiracism campaign. "Unfortunately, turning the other cheek is easier."

Before a PSG game against Sochaux on Jan. 4, two Arab youths were punched and kicked by white fans outside the entrance to the Kop de Boulogne. Ushers, all white, stood chatting and did not intervene.

The TrekMedic muses:

The TrekMedic was honestly shocked at how widespread this is occuring in Europe. Can any of you imagine the hue and cry if these shenanigans occured at an NFL or Major League Baseball game?

Even here in Philadelphia, where the Phillies organization continues to bear the cross of its racist past, we heartily cheer the exploits of Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard, both of whom are black.

And Europe, constantly attacking the US for its "racist" views, is supposed to hold itself up as a paragon of society and racial harmony with this going on?

To all of this, I call on BobG for the answer:

Funny Bunnies

Serious HT to Three Sources for this one:

Hope for the Next Generation!!!

A specter is haunting America - the celebrity-specter.

Your children's tender, impressionable minds could fall prey to icky creatures whose abominable manners, atrocious taste, and unhealthy fads are ruining our collective future.

Celebrities?

Who would have thought such generally silly, often insipid (though sometimes talented) figures could be so dangerous?

Children's author Katharine DeBrecht does. The J.K. Rowling of the Ronald Reagan set, whose liberal-bashing Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed! was a publishing sensation last year, has written a hilarious follow-up, Help! Mom! Hollywood's in My Hamper!, this time setting her sights on Hollywood stars such as Britney Spears (Daisy Smears in the book), Madonna (Rayonna), Barbra Streisand (Barbara Buttersand), and DeBrecht's perennial arch-villain, Hillary Rodham Clinton (Congresswoman Clunkton), all of whom have inherited the cultural power once reserved for those amoral Greek gods (including their propensity for sleeping around a lot).

"With Academy Awards being handed out to movies about racist cops, gay cowboys, and communist sympathizers, Hollywood has declared an outright war on traditional values," Hamper's news release declares.

Speaking on a (hands-free) carphone during a chore-filled afternoon as she drives her three sons, ages 9, 7 and 3, to their Greenville, S.C., home, DeBrecht sounds more like a charming, thoughtful 36-year-old mother than an Ann Coulter-esque Republican apparatchik on Crossfire - though she's no less committed to her politics.

The freelance reporter - a member of the South Carolina Federation of Republican Women and cocaptain of the state's Security Moms for Bush - says she's irked that schools and day-cares don't carry "kids' books which specifically talk about conservative values," only those steeped in the entertainment industry's liberal agenda.

"I wanted to give families a book to help explain traditional family values to their kids," instead of titles such as "Heather Has Two Mommies, which is about lesbian parents, or Rainbow Fish, which glorifies socialism."

Thus DeBrecht's first book. She said she got the idea for Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed! during the 2000 presidential election when her then-4-year-old son asked her what a liberal is. "Well, the harder Daddy works and the more money he makes, the more liberals want to take out of his pocket," she told him. (Pretty heavy stuff for a 4-year-old... .)

"His eyes widened," she said. " 'But if they're not under the bed, where are these liberals from, Mom?' he asked." The pro-business, pro-capitalism tome is about liberal Congresswoman Clunkton, who keeps interfering with two brothers' attempts to make an honest buck from a lemonade stand.

DeBrecht knows that, when it comes to politics, humor is the great equalizer: Hamper is a funny (though not very subtle) satire, which shows TinselHeads in full silly mode.

"I want kids to be able to laugh at them," she said. "I want them to know that celebrities can be silly, but that's not real life."

Illustrated by Jim Hummel, Hamper is fun to read for any age (one panel shows Jack Nicholson on the street holding the sign "Will act for Lakers tickets"). And (most of) its message seems relevant to folks with any political orientation.

It's about two sisters, Janie and Sam, "good girls" who always "remembered their manners," but have one weakness: Their favorite show is Stars Know Best. When a parade of celebs magically appears in their closet, the girls' lives are turned upside down.

The story's simple: A celeb shows up, mocks the girls' family, values and church, then hawks her products and her social cause ("Boycott Velcro," "National Ear Wax Day," "Save the Cauliflower") or New Age ideology (Toenailology), and leaves the girls to suffer the aftermath.

When Daisy Smears, a member of the Animals Are More Than People club, shows up, she "eyes the girls with disapproval," telling them their clothes are "so last year!" before plugging her new movie, Manners Are Mud.

But isn't Daisy's counterpart, Brit Spears, a Republican?

"I know that," DeBrecht says with the exasperation of someone who has been asked the question dozens of times. "But I don't appreciate the way she is sending out damaging messages" to young girls.

Celebs, DeBrecht says, "have a right to their own views," but they cross a line when they act as the "self-appointed leaders of our culture."

"Just because they act like buffoons on the screen, that doesn't make them special."

DeBrecht, a Catholic, says the damaging messages keep on coming, including the latest salvos in "the war on Christmas," the subject of her next book, Help! Mom! The Ninth Circuit Nabbed the Nativity!, due out just in time for... um, the Winter Holidays.

Harry Taylor - Hero or Goat?

Many on the left side of the aisle are touting Mr. Harry Taylor of Charlotte, NC as a hero for giving Bush some lip about his policies. Will "My Panties are in a" Bunch over at Attytood is one of them.

I, for one, also believe Mr. Taylor is a hero. No! Not because of what he said,...but because his actions speak for what this country is all about. In some third-world fiefdom, Mr. Taylor would have been carted off by the "secret police" and made to disappear for opposing that country's leader.

But not here. Not in a country with a constitutionally-guaranteed right to speak your mind! For all those Leftycrats holding Mr. Taylor as a hero, just remember this:

It flies right back in your smug, latte-sipping faces that President Bush is a "dictator," an "emperor," or just plain corrupted by his power! President Bush stood there, took his lumps and let the Constitution work!

This, friends, is what we are trying to import across the globe! This is why people leave the heretofore mentioned fiefdoms to come to our shores (legally, of course)! This is America!

Fly the American Flag for Freedom!

More Signs of the Decline of Western Civilization

HT to ALa at Blonde Sagacity for this one:

Kindergartener: Punished for Hugging

Really. A five year old had to write a note to her parents (complete with teacher corrections) denouncing the act of hugging. The huggee, you ask?…another little girl in her Kindergarten class.

"A Massachusetts family is outraged after their 5-year-old daughter was forced to write a letter denouncing hugging after a classmate embraced her.

Brenda Brier and Michael Marino pulled their daughter, Savannah, out of school early Wednesday. The couple was angry after a meeting with officials at the Greenmeadow Elementary School in Maynard, Mass., where Savannah is in kindergarten.

She said, 'I'm really sad that I got in trouble for hugging,'" Brier said.

"I can understand if boys are playing rough or kids are pulling each other around -- that's one thing. But when kids are being affectionate, I mean hugging, hey, they shouldn't be disciplined over it and they shouldn't be lying in letters making the kid say the opposite that they don't like to hug," Marino said." (source)

Who knows, maybe it was "rough hugging"... One thing I have noticed since my kids have been in school; is kids now seem to get reprimanded for the smallest infractions. For kids just being kids--no wonder everyone's kid is on Ritalin...if they dare jump, leap and play they will have to miss recess or write notes home...

Philadelphia Phillies' Jimmy Rollins trots back to the dugout after flying out in the 7th inning against the St. Louis Cardinals, Thursday, April 6, 2006, in Philadelphia. Rollins went 0-for-4 ending his 38-game hitting streak.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Jimmy Rollins watched the final out with his bat in his hands, turned and walked down the steps of the dugout.

He was more disappointed over Philadelphia's third straight loss than the end of his 38-game hitting streak.

Rollins went 0-for-4, snapping a hitting streak that stretched over two seasons, and the Phillies lost 4-2 to the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday.

"I said I'd trade a hit for a win," Rollins said. "Unfortunately it didn't happen."

After finishing with a 36-game hitting streak last year, Rollins kept up his pursuit of Joe DiMaggio's major league record 56-game streak with hits in his first two games this season.

The TrekMedic muses:

159 games to go. J-Roll can still break DiMaggio's record this year. And the Phightins have to win one eventually, right??

More Philliness for April 5, 2006

ROWDY SUPPORTERS OF state Rep. Babette Josephs yesterday crashed a press conference at which District Attorney Lynne Abraham endorsed Josephs' challenger in the Democratic primary, Center City lawyer Larry Farnese.

No doubt planned as a triumphant moment for Farnese, the announcement turned into a noisy shouting match in Rittenhouse Square.

"Babette! Babette!" chanted Josephs' fans at 18th and Walnut streets as Abraham arrived. They crowded around the D.A. with Josephs signs when Abraham tried to speak to the press.

"Ask Babette why she votes against tough gun laws!" Abraham yelled at the crowd. Abraham kept going, giving an endorsement speech slamming Josephs' record on crime legislation.

Abraham said Josephs opposed tough gun legislation and had voted against mandatory registration for sex offenders and against allowing juvenile-crime victims to testify via closed-circuit television.

"Every law-enforcement bill we've proposed, she's always voted against them," Abraham said. "It's really simple for me."

Farnese, a lawyer with Klett Rooney Lieber & Schorling, thanked Abraham for her support.

"It is time for a change," he said. "Crime is a huge, central issue to my campaign... Citizens in this district want to be safe."

Josephs, who was in Harrisburg yesterday, criticized Abraham for the endorsement, noting that the only other major Democrat to back Farnese is controversial labor leader John Dougherty.

"I don't think she's very credible," Josephs said, adding that she herself had a long history of fighting for anti-crime and gun-control legislation.

Josephs said she supports Rep. Dwight Evans' bill that would allow Philadelphia to enact its own gun laws.

"I voted for Ms. Abraham's 'Blueprint for a Safer Philadelphia' and have appeared at a number of press conferences," Josephs added.

On the issue of registering sex offenders, Josephs said she thinks it "gives citizens, especially parents, a false sense of security." And on children testifying via closed-circuit television, she said: "I fear we will have innocent people convicted."

Josephs also noted that she has the support of a long list of Democrats, including Gov. Rendell, Mayor Street, U.S. Rep. Bob Brady and U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz.

The TrekMedic Roars:

Folks, it is this kind of bold-faced chicanery in our one-party town that is chasing hard-working Philadelphians into the suburbs!

The fact that Rep. Josephs is being supported by the three-headed monster of Rendell, Brady and Schwartz only serves to prove my point that nothing in Philadelphia will change until someone OTHER than Democrats get into power here!

ROFLMAO! If Only This Were True!

Plot Outline: One day California wakes up and not a single Latino is left in the state. They have all inexplicably dissappeared, chaos, tragedy, and comedy quickly ensue.

TrekMedic,..Superrr-Genius!

I am 13% Idiot.
Friggin Genius
I am not annoying at all. In fact most people come to me for advice. Of course they annoy the hell out of me. But what can I do? I am smarter than most people.

A Cardinal Sin,....

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - By the time Jimmy Rollins extended his hitting streak to 37 games, only half the crowd had stayed to see it.

Rollins kept up his pursuit of Joe DiMaggio's major league record 56-game hitting streak with a double in the eighth inning, but it was the lone bright spot for the Philadelphia Phillies in their season opener on Monday.

Random Thoughts on the Future Past

So,.last night, I went to see "V for Vendetta." Decent movie. Some of the anti-Bush rhetoric either wasn't there (prob just more MSM-whipped hysteria, IMN-SHO) or fairly oblique. If you remember all of the "scene borrowing" the Wachowski Brothers did in the Matrix, you'll spend just as much time with their latest. Here's what I referenced:
  • 1984
  • Beauty and the Beast
  • Les Miserables
  • Phantom of the Opera
  • Man in the Iron Mask
  • Any James Bond movie (scene with V viewed down the barrel of a pistol)
Anyway, my friends and I (yes, I have them), engaged in a spirited political debate afterwards and some of the topics raised go me to thinking:

Back in 1980, Josep Broz Tito was dictator of a contructed country called "Yugoslavia." Socially, it was a disparate group of varying ethnicities forced to live together under the barrel of an army rifle. Then, Tito passed way.

A power vacuum was created. Dictatorial figures seized power. Civil war broke out. Ethnic violence and genocide ran rampant through the Balkans.

And now, after nearly two decades, what has become of Yugoslavia?
Does any of this sound familiar? Can we afford the two-decade incubation period in the Middle East? Will the MSMedia allow the same?

In the year 2026, will the Unites States be doing business with Iraq, or Kurdistan, a Sunni republic and a Shi'a republic?

The phone lines, as always, are open.

A Rumination on the Southern Border

Parade Magazine this week asks:

By Edward Klein
Published: April 2, 2006

In the wake of the horrifying events of Sept. 11, 2001, Americans came up with a grim saying that captures their feeling of vulnerability to another terrorist attack: “It’s not a question of if but when.”

A significant quote that leaps out in the article:

"Why hasn't al-Qaeda hit us again? Either they've lost the will to do it or something has prevented them. And, let me tell you, they haven't lost their will."
- Art Cummings, special agent in charge of counterterrorism, FBI's Washington, D.C., field office.

Now, let's look at a few variables inter-relating al-Qaeda and our Southern border:
  • 10,000 illegal immigrants stream across the Rio Grande every week
  • Korans and Spanish-to-Arabic translation guides have been found along the border
  • A dozen or more people of Middle Eastern descent have been identified among the Latinos detained every year by the INS for these illegal border crossings.
  • Al-Qaeda is eyeing this gaping hole in our border as a potential point of invasion
Add to this some salient points:
  • President Bush was granted sweeping powers on September 14, 2001 to protect our country against ANY threats to our security
  • Despite official derision by the government against them, the actions of the Minuteman Project last year stemmed the tide of illegals into our country. This year's repeat should see the same results.
With all of that stated, I'm going to make a proposition: President Bush, under the heretofore mentioned War Powers Act authority, needs to federalize the National Guard units of the states of Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Texas and place those troops along the Mexican border. Nobody comes across except at the appropriate border check points. Period. End of statement.

BTW - If you're not sickened by this sight:

You're not paying enough attention!
