Anti-ACLU Rant of the Week 6/30/05

The ACLU boys better get their sand-blasters ready after reading this story:

(plagiarized from the Philly Inkwaster)

HOW BELL EMERGED as SYMBOL of LIBERTY

For most of its ringing life, 1751-1846, the Liberty Bell was a bell hanging in the Pennsylvania State House - summoning people to weddings, funerals and important events, such as the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 8, 1776.

In the 1830s, abolitionists touring the building, which had become known as Independence Hall, saw the inscription on the bell from Leviticus - Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof. They noted the irony of its hanging in the birthplace of freedom, when so many Americans were enslaved.

These abolitionists published pamphlets calling it the Liberty Bell and wrote poems about it. The bell soon grew into a cherished symbol of the strugle for liberty.

It cracked a final time on Washington's Birthday, 1846, and hasn't rung since.

Holy Cow! ANOTHER cherished American landmark linked to a Judeo-Christian concept?

Nice post, you'd almost think this nation was founded by people from a Judeo-Christian backround instead of a pack of atheists like the ones who want to run it now.
