Which "Indoctrination" is Worse?

Found this trolling the fire wires tonight:

NINE firefighters have received written warnings after refusing to hand out safety leaflets at a gay rights parade in Glasgow.

They have all been disciplined and ordered to undergo training so that they can better understand the lifestyles of same sex partners.

One senior fireman is being stripped of his rank as a watch manager and will instead be put in charge of a crew.

The demotion is likely to cost him up to GBP5000-ayear in lost wages. (TrekMedic calculates that as roughly $9000!)

Strathclyde Fire & Rescue has taken tough action after it emerged the nine refused to hand out leaflets at the Pride Scotia Festival in George Square in June.

The leaflets gave lifesaving tips on how to avoid fires.

The annual festival celebrates Scotland's gay, bi-sexual and transgender communities It is believed the firefighters refused to attend the event.

Brigade chiefs were furious and immediately triggered disciplinary proceedings against the nine, who are based at Cowcaddens Fire Station in Glasgow.

Today bosses issued a statement confirming all nine had been disciplined and ordered to "undergo a further intensive course on diversity training".

It said: "The nine now accept they should have performed their duties at the Pride Scotia festival.

"Their refusal was a fundamental breach of one of their core responsibilities.

"Firefighters are well aware that fire prevention education and spreading the fire safety message is not a minor part of their job - it ranks alongside fire-fighting as a core, statutory duty."

The statement stressed: "Firefighters cannot, and will not, pick and choose to whom they offer fire safety advice.

"Strathclyde Fire & Rescue has a responsibility to protect every one of the 2.3million people it serves, irrespective of their race, religion or sexuality.

"Strathclyde Fire & Rescue now regards this issue as closed."

Strathclyde Fire & Rescue has taken appropriate disciplinary action against nine firefighters who refused to offer community fire safety advice at the recent Pride Scotia festival.

All nine will undergo a further intensive course of diversity training.

The nine now accept that they should have performed their duties at the Pride Scotia festival, one of many public events where Strathclyde Fire & Rescue endeavours to attend in its community safety role. Their refusal was a fundamental breach of one of their core responsibilities.

Firefighters are well aware that fire prevention education and spreading the fire safety message is not a minor part of their job – it ranks alongside fire-fighting as a core, statutory duty. Strathclyde Fire & Rescue gives particular priority to community fire safety because of the urgent need to drive down casualty and fatality rates amongst our communities which still rank as the highest in the UK.

Firefighters cannot, and will not, pick and choose to whom they offer fire safety advice. Strathclyde Fire & Rescue has a responsibility to protect every one of the 2.3 million people it serves, irrespective of race, religion or sexual orientation.

Strathclyde Fire & Rescue now regards this issue as closed.

This comes on the heels of the new movie "Jesus Camp," a documentary that has divided the evangelical movement across the US and has liberal/socialists pontificating and generally going ape-s**t (Bloomberg.com calls the film "an inside look at the burgeoning world of right-wing evangelism, is scarier than 'Snakes on a Plane.'") The Hollywood Reporter's review is here.

In truth, this film does make the TrekMedic a little leery, but I'd rather err on Jesus' side than be "indoctrinated" to accept an immoral act as normal or lose my job!
