F***ing Awesome!!!
PHILADELPHIA -- Phillies slugger Ryan Howard become the first Major Leaguer to reach 50 homers this season, when he connected off the Braves' Tim Hudson in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader at Citizens Bank Park.
Howard led off the second inning by smacking Hudson's first pitch to center field, extending his own franchise single-season record. He established a new club mark on Thursday, when he went deep off Washington's Pedro Astacio for his 49th home run. That broke the record of 48 set in 1980 by Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt.
Howard added his 51st long ball, a two-run blast off Hudson, in the third, and hit No. 52 off Hudson in the sixth, a solo shot. The three homers came in consecutive at-bats.
Last season, Atlanta's Andruw Jones hit the 50th of his 51 home runs at Citizens Bank Park off Philadelphia reliever Geoff Geary.
The second-year slugger's feats are becoming more impressive as the season continues. He's powered seven home runs during a 12-game hitting steak that has pushed his batting average above .300.
Howard's 133 RBIs lead the Majors, and he's established himself as a legitimate National League MVP candidate, along with the Mets' Carlos Beltran and the Cardinals' Albert Pujols.
The TrekMedic whoops:
Save this post - I predict Ryan Howard will hit 65 homers before the season is over!!
And,.....a hearty fare-thee-well to Andre Agassi. I'm not much of a tennis fan, but you have to admire his style! He lost today at the U.S. Open. The story is here.
