Look! The Emperor Has No Clothes!

Finally,...someone gives it to the Untied Nations!

By George Russell

In a stinging rebuff to the United Nations and its anti-poverty efforts, Eritrea, one of the poorest countries in Africa, has told the world body that it wants out of its long-term development agreement because the U.N. makes the problem worse, not better.

The reason, given in a January 26 notification letter from the country’s powerful Finance Minister, obtained by Fox News, is that “aid only postpones the basic solutions to crucial development problems by tentatively ameliorating their manifestations without tackling their root causes. The structural, political, economic, etc. damage that it inflicts upon recipient countries is also enormous.” In other words, the government argues, U.N. aid does more harm than good.

Whether that critique, which echoes the complaints of many critics in wealthy donor countries, is the true reason behind the U.N.’s rejection is unclear. Fox News tried to contact the Eritrean finance ministry for further explanations, but was told that the finance minister, Berhane Abrehe, was “unavailable.”

The Eritrean rebuff is another blow for the United Nations in a desperately poor and strife-ridden area of East Africa where the world organization has been struggling to maintain its presence, effectiveness and credibility.

Its Why We're Called REPUBLICans,...

Theodore Roosevelt called it:

"The Roman Republic fell, not because of the ambition of Caesar or Augustus, but because it had already long ceased to be in any real sense a republic at all. When the sturdy Roman plebeian, who lived by his own labor, who voted without reward according to his own convictions, and who with his fellows formed in war the terrible Roman legion, had been changed into an idle creature who craved nothing in life save the gratification of a thirst for vapid excitement, who was fed by the state, and who directly or indirectly sold his vote to the highest bidder, then the end of the republic was at hand, and nothing could save it. The laws were the same as they had been, but the people behind the laws had changed, and so the laws counted for nothing."

You Know You Stink As a President When,.....

Even the dead are against you!!!

A Texas man is trying to tip the tables against President Obama in the 2012 election -- though he died last month from cancer.

Jim Harrison, who died Feb. 27 at the age of 68, used his obituary to call for Obama's defeat, MyFoxHouston reports.

"In lieu of flowers, at Jim's request, please make a donation to ANYONE running against Barack Hussein Obama or the American Cancer Society," the obituary reads.

Harrison's stepson John Rundlof said the obituary was "kind of a parting shot." Though the family has gotten positive and negative feedback, Rundlof said Harrison just wanted to see "change" in Washington.

His widow said she supported Harrison's message.

"We saw it. We said, 'Yes Jim. You've got to put it in.' It was awesome. He's a staunch Republican and everybody, they remember that obituary when they see it," Ginger Rundlof told MyFoxHouston.

Harrison's not the first to include a message for Obama in his obituary. A Georgia businessman made a nearly identical request in his obituary last fall. Last July, a Nevada woman's family used her obituary to campaign against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Another Legend Passes,....

Screen legend Elizabeth Taylor died Wednesday at the age of 79.

Her rep told FOX News she died in the early morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Taylor had been hospitalized for over a month at Cedars-Sinai, where she was being treated for symptoms of congestive heart failure.

Taylor announced her congestive heart failure diagnosis in 2004.

The Oscar-winning actress had been receiving friends in her hospital room, and watched the Academy Awards to celebrate her birthday last month.

Taylor first gained stardom as a child and appeared in more than 50 films. She won Oscars for her performances in "Butterfield 8" and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?"

She was equally famous for extraordinary beauty and her stormy personal life, including eight marriages.

In later years, she was a spokeswoman for humanitarian causes, notably AIDS research. That work gained her a special Oscar in 1993.

Taylor is survived by her children, Michael and Christopher Wilding by her second marriage, Liza Todd by her third, and Maria Burton, who she adopted with Richard Burton, to whom she was twice married. She also had nine grandchildren.

Guts,..by Definition!

Mar 21, 2011 – 4:42 PM .

The college sports story of the weekend had nothing to do with the NCAA basketball tournament and everything to do with Anthony Robles, the Arizona State University wrestler who defeated reigning champ Matt McDonough from Iowa State on Saturday to become national champion in the 125-pound weight class.

A national championship is an impressive achievement for any athlete, but it's an awe-inspiring achievement by Robles, who was born with one leg.

Clearly one of the keys to Robles' athletic success is his attitude and determination. "I grew up like a normal kid," Robles told NCAA.com. "Yeah I was missing my leg, but that wasn't going to stop me from doing anything I wanted to do."

Take Heed, Mayor Nutter!!

MIAMI -- Mayor Carlos Alvarez was ousted Tuesday by voters angry over a property tax rate increase and salary raise for county employees in a county struggling to recover from the recession.

With 100 percent of precinct votes counted, 88 percent voted to oust the mayor, making Miami-Dade the most populous area, with more than 2.5 million people, ever to recall a local official. Just 12 percent of the 204,500 who cast ballots were in favor of allowing Alvarez to finish his second term, which ends in 2012.

Gentle readers,
I may no longer be a resident of Philadelphia, but I know this: as Philadelphia goes, so goes the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania!

Citizens of Philadelphia shouldn't have to stand for a government that takes the revenues from our world-class hospitals and universities, our packed-to-the-rafters sports complexes (both collegiate and professional), a top-notch restaurant trade and our status as a travel destination and, in return, give us a police department rife with corruption (apologies to Wyatt Earp), a fire department so underfunded it's practically a part-time service and a public school system more interested in providing social services and maintaining the union status quo than graduating functioning members of society!

Two years ago, Americans overwhlemingly voted for "Hope & Change" in this country. Well, if we want to have any "hope" that Philadelphia won't be the next Detroit, we need to "change" how things are done in this city! And it starts at the top! Reject the same ol' same ol' and vote the Democrats and their 50+ years of corruption out of power once and for all!

Time For Us All to Stand Together With Our Friends

Gentle readers,
The events of the past few weeks should be a reminder that, occasionally, the forces of nature (spelled G-O-D) act to remind us of our place in this universe.

As Christchurch and Tokyo struggle to contain the damage and rebuild, we shouldn't be spending time whining over how much Japan dislikes America (the Brits, French, Germans, etc all "say" the same thing - get over it) or salivate over how the rebuild will spur the global economy through trade and sales of goods.

Instead, we Americans should do what we do best: offer up prayers to whatever belief system we hold to ourselves for the souls of the departed and for the strength of the survivors to pick up and move forward and, as Americans, once again pull on our workboots, pick up a shovel, and go about putting things right with the world!

Another Job Lost to Obama,....

Ladies and gentlemen,
I started my secondary blog, Republican Spyglass, as a way to chronicle to foibles and outright anarchy that I thought would be Obama administration and, therefore, covered up by the MSM.

Instead, the actions of The Obamessiah have become so outrageous and egregious that, with the combined forces of the Blogosphere and social networking, his legacy as

is all but assured (this poster is NOT approved by Jordan Philips or any other Democratic lapdog).

I want to thank those who helped out since 2008 and rest assured: the fight isn't over - I'll continue to blog until the voice of the Democratic Party becomes nothing more than an annoying squeak!
