DoubleStandarddradnatSelbuoD in Gay Old Hollywood?

As beauty pageant officials and gay-rights advocates increase the pressure on Miss California USA to back off her controversial comments opposing same-sex marriage, Carrie Prejean is not retracting them. Instead, she’s digging in her spike heels and fighting back.

“I was attacked for giving my own opinion on the stage of the Miss USA contest. And I’m going to do whatever it takes to protect marriage. It’s something that is very dear to my heart,” Prejean told TODAY’s Matt Lauer Thursday in an exclusive interview from Washington, D.C.

“In the entire history of Miss USA, no reigning title holder has so readily committed her face and voice to a more divisive or polarizing issue,” the organizers said in a statement issued to the media. “We are deeply saddened Carrie Prejean has forgotten her platform of the Special Olympics, her commitment to all Californians, and solidified her legacy as one that goes beyond the right to voice her beliefs and instead reveals her opportunistic agenda.”

Opportunistic agenda?? Hmmm,..then what do you call Perez Hilton's pr-gay marriage stance that denied Prejean her crown??

Quisling,...or Benedict Arlen!

Is it any wonder why he's Smerconish's Golden Boy??

Veteran GOP Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania announced Tuesday he will switch political parties and run in the Democratic primary in 2010.

Republican voters had sent him to the Senate five times. But faced with the prospect of a strong challenge from conservative Pat Toomey in the GOP primary and the state trending Democratic, Specter issued a statement that he was going to jump ship.

"I deeply regret that I will be disappointing many friends and supporters," Specter said at a news conference on Tuesday. (You've been doing that to Pennsylvanians for years! Why apologize NOW?)

"I can understand their disappointment," he continued. "I am also disappointed that so many in the party I have worked for for more than four decades do not want me to be their candidate. It is very painful on both sides."

The switch puts Democrats within one vote of a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. Democrats currently hold 56 seats in the Senate, and two independents typically vote with the party. Republicans have 41 seats.

With Specter switching sides, Democrats will reach the magical number of 60 if Al Franken, who has been entangled in a protracted court battle with incumbent Sen. Norm Coleman, is seated in Minnesota.

Despite the change in political stripes, Specter vowed to remain an independent voice in the Senate.

"My change in party affiliation does not mean that I will be a party-line voter any more for the Democrats that I have been for the Republicans," he said.

"Whatever my party affiliation, I will continue to be guided by President Kennedy's statement that sometimes party asks too much. When it does, I will continue my independent voting and follow my conscience on what I think is best for Pennsylvania and America," he continued.

Specter's departure further fueled anger that had been building since his vote for a $787 billion stimulus package proposed by President Obama and supported by just three Republicans in Congress.

With the switch, Specter now is more likely to face a general election challenge from Toomey, former head of the conservative Club for Growth, who almost defeated Specter in a 2004 GOP primary. Toomey was beating Specter in public opinion polls of GOP primary voters. (You were getting your clock cleaned by Toomey and you still will come November '10!)

"Senator Specter's decision today represents the height of political self-preservation," said Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, who chairs the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which works to get GOP candidates elected.

"Let's be honest -- Sen. Specter didn't leave the GOP based on principles of any kind," said Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele. "He left to further his personal political interests because he knew that he was going to lose a Republican primary due to his left-wing voting record.

"Republicans look forward to beating Sen. Specter in 2010, assuming the Democrats don't do it first," Steele said.

Last week, DeMint reportedly told Specter that he would be supporting Toomey in next year's Republican primary. But it is unclear whether this conversation prompted Specter to switch parties.

Political experts in Pennsylvania note that Specter has alienated the Republican base over the years with his support for abortion rights and gay rights, and other more hard-core conservative issues. His approval rating percentage among Republicans hovered in the 30s, according to a handful of polls conducted this year.

However, Specter's approval among Democrats in his state is high. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., praised Specter's decision and noted that he has always been willing to work in a bipartisan manner.

"I welcome Sen. Specter and his moderate voice to our diverse caucus, and to continuing our open and honest debate about the best way to make life better for the American people," he said in a statement.

Wrong,....HOT, but Wrong.

Face it, Cat Cora is the only reason to watch Iron Chef America,....

Bust out the baby rattles and bassinets! Celebrity chef Cat Cora and wife Jennifer Cora tell OK! exclusively that they're the proud new mommies to son Thatcher Julius Cora.

The couples' rep tells OK! that Jennifer gave birth to the bouncing baby boy on April 4.

"Cat and Jennifer loved the old English name Thatcher, and Julius was Jennifer's grandfather's name," their rep reveals to OK!. "Both mom and baby are doing great!"

The couple have two children already, Caje and Zoran, and Cat is also currently pregnant (she is due in a few months).

"We decided that having them a year apart is harder than having kids as infants together," Cat told OK! previously. "[Jennifer] carried my embryo and I carried hers. It's like surrogating, but obviously all of our kids are equal."

The MSM Missed Another One,....

No anti-Semitism or anti-Israel on the left, huh?

Jerusalem — On Thursday, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish umbrella organization, decried Arab desecrations of Joseph’s Tomb in the town of Nablus.

Reports Thursday morning of a group of Israelis who went to worship at the tomb of this Jewish patriarch state that the tomb was covered in bootprints and swastikas.

In response, Nathan J. Diament, director of public policy of the Orthodox Union, issued the following statement:

“The Orthodox Union decries the desecrations of the holy site of Joseph’s Tomb and we call upon all people of goodwill to join us in condemning such acts of desecration of holy sites.”

Mr. Diament also warned this could serve as a precedent for what could happen if Israel relinquishes sovereignty over other Jewish holy sites, most notably in Jerusalem.

During the 1948-1967 Arab rule over the Old City of Jerusalem, 57 synagogues in the Old City were torched, and Jews were not even allowed to visit the Old City.

Hypocrisy - The Very Definition of the Democratic Party

In the "do as I say, not as I do" error,..um,..era of the Obamistake, does this surprise anybody:

Gov. David Paterson, who is legally blind, used his response to last night's LCA show to hit back at an 1199/GNYHA TV ad released during the budget battle that featured a blind man in a wheelchair slamming the governor's proposed healthcare spending cuts.

Paterson was pushed onto the stage in a wheelchair. He was wearing sunglasses, a white shirt and a silver necklace over his tuxedo pants - an outfit similiar (minus the tux) to the one worn in the ad by 52-year-old Juan Pietri when he asked the governor: "Why are you doing this to me?"

This is, for the record, the same governor who chastised Saturday Night Live for making fun of his disability.

In his nearly five-minute response, Paterson left very few targets unskewered, taking aim at reporters, labor unions, goo-goos, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, Senate Majority Leader Malcolm Smith and even his own free-spending ways vis-a-vis the executive mansion.

Here's a taste:

"These are difficult economic times, Governor Paterson. I can't pay my bills. I can't put food on my table. I may lose my home. And the reason, Governor Paterson, is because of you. It's because you haven't given the state transparency!"

"...Governor! All the people out here suffering and you give exclusive interviews to the New York Times. Have you forgotten about the pure people? The rest of the LCA, Governor Paterson. Governor Paterson, how can I pay my bills when you don't go on Fred Dicker's show every weekend? Governor, you are as phony as the sources in his articles!"

Make sure you watch all the way through to the end. You won't be sorry.

At Least SOME Nations Still Fight Terror

As the Obamistake flings apologia after apologia to the Third World,....

Jerusalem — Israel and the United States plan to hold a major ballistic missile defense exercise later this year called Juniper Cobra. The maneuver will jointly test three different American and Israeli missile defense systems.

Israeli defense officials said Monday the exercise is necessary to create a joint missile defense infrastructure in the event of a conflict with Iran akin to what existed in 1991, when American Patriot batteries shot down inbound Iraqi Scuds.

The Israel Air Force’s Air Defense Division, the U.S. Missile Defense Agency and the U.S. Military’s European Command (EUCOM) have held the Juniper Cobra exercise for the past five years. The upcoming exercise is planned to be the most complex and extensive yet.

The exercise will include the newly developed Arrow 2 ballistic missile defense system as well as America’s THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) and ship-based Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System.

U.S. Missile Defense Agency director Lt. Gen. Patrick J. O’Reilly mentioned these plans during testimony that he provided to the U.S. House Appropriations Committee’s Subcommittee on Defense two weeks ago.

“The Juniper Cobra exercise between EUCOM and the IDF will be the fifth and most complex exercise yet designed,” Lt. Gen. O’Reilly told the subcommittee.

Last week, the Israeli Air Force held its 17th test of its Arrow 2 interceptor, shooting down a missile mimicking an Iranian Shihab ballistic missile.

Less Talk, More AK-47s

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran convicted an American journalist of spying for the United States and sentenced her to eight years in prison, her lawyer said Saturday, complicating the Obama administration's efforts to improve relations with Tehran.

The White House said President Barack Obama was "deeply disappointed" by the conviction, while the journalist's father told a radio station his daughter was tricked into making incriminating statements by officials who told her they would free her if she did.

It was the first time Iran has found an American journalist guilty of spying, and it is unclear how it will affect Obama's push to break a 30-year-old diplomatic deadlock between the two adversaries.

Roxana Saberi, a 31-year-old dual American-Iranian citizen, was arrested in late January and initially accused of working without press credentials. But earlier this month, an Iranian judge leveled a far more serious allegation, charging her with spying for the United States.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said the United States was working with Swiss diplomats in Iran to get details about the court's decision and to ensure Saberi's well-being. She said in a statement the United States will "vigorously raise our concerns" with the Iranian government.

And it's the same Clinton "talking" that got us into a 9/11 situation in the first place.

Officially, This Didn't Happen

Because CNN didn't give it 24x7 coverage,....

Thank God SOMEONE did:

DENVER — The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has launched an investigation into a rowdy student protest that prevented former Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado, an outspoken opponent of illegal immigration, from delivering a speech Tuesday night on campus.

University Chancellor Holden Thorp said the investigation by the school's Department of Public Safety could result in criminal charges. The Division of Student Affairs is also probing the incident, he said, and that students could face Honor Court proceedings as a result.

The state's leading newspapers, including the Charlotte News & Observer, published articles harshly critical of the university's handling of the incident.

"Free speech, which has had its ups and downs on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus over the years, suffered an embarrassing setback Tuesday night," the paper said in an editorial Thursday. ("Captain Obvious? Phone call for you on line 2!")

Mr. Tancredo "was forced to leave without completing his speech at Bingham Hall. The university is left to pick up the pieces, if it can, of its reputation as a place where free speech is welcomed."

Mr. Tancredo was scheduled to speak on the topic of in-state tuition to illegal immigrants, but shortly after taking the stage he was shouted down by protesters. They unfurled a banner in front of him reading "No Dialogue With Hate," blocking his view of the audience.

Lies and the Lying Liars Who Pass Them Off As Truth

So, now the deluded liberals (I know, I know,..) want us to believe the piracy in Somalia is OUR FAULT?

So says local liar,..um, blogger, Susie Madrak:

Johann Hari from The Independent:

In 1991, the government of Somalia collapsed. Its nine million people have been teetering on starvation ever since – and the ugliest forces in the Western world have seen this as a great opportunity to steal the country's food supply and dump our nuclear waste in their seas.

Hmmm,...and it was a DEMOCRAT President (Clinton) who tried to restore some order to these savages. Remember "Black Hawk Down," Susie? That was when that same DEMOCRAT Commander-in-Chief turned tale and fled Somalia, leaving us open to another 8 years of getting kicked in the shins by the likes of similar poor disgruntled natives of poor, disgruntled countries.

Then Susie shows her true derangement:

Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah, the UN envoy to Somalia, tells me: "Somebody is dumping nuclear material here. There is also lead, and heavy metals such as cadmium and mercury – you name it." Much of it can be traced back to European hospitals and factories, who seem to be passing it on to the Italian mafia to "dispose" of cheaply. When I asked Mr Ould-Abdallah what European governments were doing about it, he said with a sigh: "Nothing. There has been no clean-up, no compensation, and no prevention."

At the same time, other European ships have been looting Somalia's seas of their greatest resource: seafood. We have destroyed our own fish stocks by overexploitation – and now we have moved on to theirs. More than $300m-worth of tuna, shrimp, and lobster are being stolen every year by illegal trawlers. The local fishermen are now starving. Mohammed Hussein, a fisherman in the town of Marka 100km south of Mogadishu, told Reuters: "If nothing is done, there soon won't be much fish left in our coastal waters."

So, the nasty white Europeans that started Somalia's downward turn are polluting Somali waters, while simultaneously overfishing the waters? Since when was polluted fish all the rage in the West, Susie??

Finally, Somalis think piracy is OK?

This is the context in which the "pirates" have emerged. Somalian fishermen took speedboats to try to dissuade the dumpers and trawlers, or at least levy a "tax" on them. They call themselves the Volunteer Coastguard of Somalia – and ordinary Somalis agree. The independent Somalian news site WardheerNews found 70 per cent "strongly supported the piracy as a form of national defence".

Now, pay attention, Susie:

Pirates who shoot at American-flagged ships are called "Terrorists." We don't deal with terrorists, we obliterate them (at least we did from 2001-2008).

My Own Tea Party

Since my job will keep me from the myriad of national and local Tea Parties, I present my own. Made with the Philadelphia blend, guaranteed to create a bitter brew:

This picture and analogy pretty much describes how the Obamistake will eventually screw this country into non-existence:

Water - to make good tea, you need hot water. I use natural gas at my house. Obama is going out of his way to avoid looking for coal, oil and natural gas, opting instead to rely on windmills powered by the hot air generated by Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Chris Dodd and Bawney Fwank.

Tea - you're right, that's Teavana Earl Grey. What can I say, I'm a tea snob? But as my taxes rise to pay for one porkulus program after another, I'll be lucky to be double-dipping Bigelow Tea by 2010!

The Vessel - yeah, the mug is from my job. If the Obamessiah gets his way, healthcare in the US will become nationalized and care will be parceled out not according to need but according to availability. For-profit EMS will go the way of the dinosaur and Reagan Conservatives and I'll be out of a job!

Sugar - I wonder how much sugar will cost if we keep trying to convert all of it to ethanol instead of using the available coal and petroleum under our own soil?

More Sad News

I'm surprised Wyatt didn't jump all over this,...

(The story, Wyatt! The story,...)

(April 13) - Adult film legend Marilyn Chambers is dead says a friend of the actress.
Peggy McGinn says the 56-year-old Chambers was found by her 17-year-old daughter Sunday night at her home in Los Angeles County and the cause of death has not been determined.

Chambers starred in the 1972 film "Behind the Green Door," which was more widely distributed and attracted a more mainstream audience than the usual adult fare.
Chambers, whose given name was Marilyn Briggs, was once a model for Ivory Snow. She was among the first porn superstars when the stag films of the 1940s through 1960s gave way to the more polished sex films of the 1970s.

What's Next, March 17th Being "Green Day?"

Wednesday, April 08, 2009

"Fall Weekend" will be taking the place of the holiday formerly known as "Columbus Day" at Brown University this fall.

The faculty of the Ivy League university voted at a meeting Tuesday to establish a new academic and administrative holiday in October called "Fall Weekend" that coincides with Columbus Day, but that doesn't bear the name of the explorer.

Hundreds of Brown students had asked the Providence, R.I. school to stop observing Columbus Day, saying Christopher Columbus's violent treatment of Native Americans he encountered was inconsistent with Brown's values.

"I'm very pleased," Reiko Koyama, a sophomore who led the effort, told the student newspaper, the Brown Daily Herald. "It's been a long time coming."

The change will take effect this fall.

Although the students had asked the school to take another day off instead, Brown will remain closed on Columbus Day, in part to avoid inconveniencing staff whose children might have the holiday off, the Daily Herald reported.

Many other colleges are open on Columbus Day but give students short breaks later in the semester.

Last month a Brown Daily Herald poll found two-thirds of the students supported changing the holiday's name to Fall Weekend, the newspaper reported.

Art Imitating Life?

Long-term "House" fans like me were more than shocked by this week's turn of events.

Here's why:

WASHINGTON -- The White House has hired actor Kal Penn as a liaison between President Obama's administration and Asian constituents. White House spokesman Shin Inouye said Tuesday that the actor who had a recurring role on Fox's TV show "House" and has starred in several movies would join the staff as an associate director in the Office of Public Liaison.

His role will be to connect Obama with the Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities, as well as arts groups.

Penn starred as Kumar in the movie, "Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay." His "House" character committed suicide in Monday's episode.

Penn backed Obama during the campaign. The White House says a start date for Penn hasn't been set.

The White House did not reveal what Penn would be paid. Aides with similar titles earned between $41,000 and $91,000 last year.

The hire was first reported by Entertainment Weekly.

The Bitter American thinks:

Yeah, If I received an invite to sail on Obama's "Ship of Fools," I'd put a bullet in my head, too!

A little respite for The Thin Blue Line!

The United States Supreme Court yesterday rejected convicted cop killer Mumia Abu Jamal’s petition for a new trial.

Mr. Abu Jamal was convicted and sentenced to death in 1982 for the murder of Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner in December 1981.

Mr. Abu Jamal’s attorneys sought to obtain a new trial for their client on the grounds that black jurors had been unfairly excluded from his trial. In March 2008, a three-judge panel of the federal Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia upheld Mr. Abu Jamal’s conviction and refused to order a new trial; however, it voided his death sentence. The court overturned his death sentence after it found the jury received flawed instructions during his trial’s penalty phase.

Since his conviction, there has been a campaign both in the United States and Europe to have Mr. Abu Jamal freed.

Marxist groups such as the International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement, which recently issued held a rally supporting the killer of four Oakland, Calif., police officers, has supported Mr. Abu Jamal, as has the Communist Workers World Party. Actor Ed Asner has been among the more famous of Mr. Abu Jamal’s supporters.

Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne M. Abraham expressed relief yesterday after she learned about the Supreme Court decision.

“This means that Mumia Abu Jamal’s murder conviction stands, and he lost his appeal. The Third Circuit’s opinion that he received a fair trial is affirmed,” Ms. Abraham said in a statement. “It is a pity that Maureen Faulkner had to go through the last 26 years to hear what she knew from the beginning: that Jamal murdered her husband, Police Officer Daniel Faulkner, in cold blood.”

Joey Vento, owner of Geno’s Steaks, who has been at the forefront of a campaign to ensure that Mr. Abu Jamal serves his original sentence, expressed mixed emotions after hearing of the decision.

“ It’s good, but now the guy should be executed. He should have been executed before,” he said. “I’m glad that he lost his appeal, but now he will just write some more books, make more speeches and have more streets named after him.”

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking to reimpose the death penalty, and its petition asking the United States Supreme Court restore Mr. Abu Jamal’s death sentence is still pending.

American Independence - Gone in a Pen Stroke! Thanks, Obama!

Obama Declares war on First and Second Amendment:
 Democrats Destroy Economy Blame Republicans:

Obama Begins Turnover of USA Sovereignty to International Body by Sher Zieve

Moving as quickly as he can to gut the USA and then divide its body parts amongst like-minded globalists, the USA’s Supreme Leader Barack Hussein Obama used the G-20 conference to begin his turnover of USA sovereignty to said internationalists and start the move toward a one-world government.

Obama has signed off on international legislation the-Financial Stability Board-that would regulate ALL firms, including those within the USA and places them under the responsibility of an international governmental agency.

On FNC’s Greta Van Susteren’s program, author and columnist Dick Morris noted "literally from April 2nd of this year, that is today, it’s a whole new world of financial regulation in which, essentially, ALL of the U.S. regulatory bodies and ALL U.S. companies are put under international regulation, international supervision.
It really amounts to a global economic government."

No Need to Clean Up After the Mud Was Thrown?

If it annoys lefties, it must be good for our country:

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The Alaska Republican Party on Thursday called on Democratic Sen. Mark Begich to resign in light of the now-abandoned federal convictions that had crippled his GOP opponent, Ted Stevens, in last year's election. Begich rejected the idea and even his Republican colleague said what's done is done.

State Republican Party Chairman Randy Ruedrich said Begich should step down to allow for a special election so Alaskans could vote without the "improper influence of the corrupt Department of Justice."

Republican Gov. Sarah Palin immediately endorsed the idea.

"I absolutely agree," she said in a statement released by a spokeswoman Megan Stapleton of SarahPAC, Palin's political action committee.

Stevens, 85, the longest-serving Republican in U.S. Senate history, was convicted of seven felony counts a week before the November election.

Jurors found that he lied on Senate financial disclosure forms to conceal hundreds of thousands of dollars in gifts and home renovations from a wealthy oil contractor, but on Wednesday the Department of Justice announced it would dismiss the indictment against Stevens because prosecutors mishandled the case. Prosecutors have decided that a new trial would be inappropriate.

Even with the convictions, Stevens lost to Begich by less than 4,000 votes.

Begich, the former mayor of Anchorage, said he intends to serve his six-year term.

"I got into the Senate race long before Senator Stevens' legal troubles began because Alaskans were looking for a change and a senator as independent as Alaska," Begich said in a statement released by his office. "Today, with our country in a severe recession, it's more important than ever that we have a senator focused on fixing our economy so Alaskans have the jobs they need to support their families."

All Talk, No Action

NEW YORK - CNN is poised to finish March third in the prime-time weeknight cable news ratings behind Fox News Channel and MSNBC, the first time this has ever happened for the channel that pioneered the genre nearly three decades ago.

CNN says its overall business is healthy and it is not straying from its straight news path. But it has been suffering more audience erosion than its rivals since the peak days of the presidential election, further proof that the opinionated prime-time shows on Fox and MSNBC have greater audience loyalty. (Actually, its proof that when you lie for a living, people will stop paying attention to you - BA)

CNN's weekday prime-time ratings are relatively flat compared to last year during the primary campaign, up 1 percent from March 2008, according to Nielsen Media Research. Fox's ratings have jumped 30 percent and MSNBC, the new No. 2, is up 24 percent. The biggest growth in cable news is for CNN's partner, HLN, formerly Headline News, which is up 62 percent.

Fox remains on a mountain above its two closest competitors, with its prime-time audience in March more than that of MSNBC and CNN combined. The O'Reilly Factor has done particularly well, keeping more of its postelection audience than anything else on CNN and MSNBC.

Through Wednesday, Fox was averaging 2.73 million prime-time viewers in March. MSNBC had 1.16 million and CNN had 1.14 million. The March ratings period ends Friday, and it's doubtful CNN will be able to overcome MSNBC.

The Dems Greatest Fear?

It isn't Rush Limbaugh and his millions of listeners.

It is Michael Steele and his political power.

How else do you explain this:

Angie Harmon: I'm Not Racist Because I Disagree With Obama

Angie Harmon is not afraid to come out and say she doesn’t like how President Obama is handling the job — but she’s sick of having to defend herself from being deemed a racist.

"Here's my problem with this, I'm just going to come out and say it. If I have anything to say against Obama it's not because I'm a racist, it's because I don't like what he's doing as President and anybody should be able to feel that way, but what I find now is that if you say anything against him you're called a racist," Harmon told Tarts at Thursday’s Los Angeles launch of the new eyelash-growing formula, Latisse. "But it has nothing to do with it, I don’t care what color he is. I’m just not crazy about what he's doing and I heard all about this, and he’s gonna do that and change and change, so okay … I'm still dressing for a recession over here buddy and we've got unemployment at an all-time high and that was his number one thing and that's the thing I really don't appreciate. If I'm going to disagree with my President, that doesn't make me a racist. If I was to disagree with W, that doesn't make me racist. It has nothing to do with it, it is ridiculous."

Part II can be gleaned here.

Meanwhile, the ObamaSpouse is relegated to Barbie Doll status. Nice example set.
