Anti-ACLU Rant of the Week 6/30/05

The ACLU boys better get their sand-blasters ready after reading this story:

(plagiarized from the Philly Inkwaster)

For most of its ringing life, 1751-1846, the Liberty Bell was a bell hanging in the Pennsylvania State House - summoning people to weddings, funerals and important events, such as the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 8, 1776.

In the 1830s, abolitionists touring the building, which had become known as Independence Hall, saw the inscription on the bell from Leviticus - Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof. They noted the irony of its hanging in the birthplace of freedom, when so many Americans were enslaved.

These abolitionists published pamphlets calling it the Liberty Bell and wrote poems about it. The bell soon grew into a cherished symbol of the strugle for liberty.

It cracked a final time on Washington's Birthday, 1846, and hasn't rung since.

Holy Cow! ANOTHER cherished American landmark linked to a Judeo-Christian concept?

Racism! Racism!

No Salute for Remark
About Flying of Flags

by Amy Worden
Inquirer Harrisburg Bureau

HARRISBURG - A heated debate on the state House yesterday over flag flying degenerated into a less-than-patriotic slur session when a black Philadelphia lawmaker called a white colleague "a cracker."

Rep. John Myers directed the epithet at a fellow Democrat, Rep. Thomas Yewcic of Cambria County, after Yewcic spoke in support of a bill to allow homeowners to fly the American flag even if their homeowners' association forbids it.

Medic's Musings: I'm shocked! Imagine,..in this day and age, people STILL use the "C" word! As I gaze into my crystal (meth) ball,..I can foresee the following outcomes from this travesty:
  • The Right Rev Thurston Howell III, leader of the Morally Oppressed People of European Descent (MOPED) will lead a march on Harrisburg on Monday, July 4th
  • Students in Wynnewood, Merion and Upper Dublin will burn down their synagogues; students in Gladwyne and Wayne will overturn and burn their Lexuses and Beemers
  • CNN and MSNBC will interrupt their 24/7 coverage of the Natalee Holloway body recovery to focus attention on the plight of poor, Western Pennsylvanians
  • Rep. Myers will face censure in the PA House. In a public apology, he'll plead his statement was "taken out of context." He'll go on to explain that he meant "cracker" as a derivation of "coal cracker," a job many Western Pennsylvanians held for years.
  • The UNtied Nations will condone,....I mean, condemn Myers' actions and call for a boycott of North Philadelphia.

Yup,..think it all sounds stupid? When the shoe is on the other foot, it usual does!

Supreme Court Bars Commandments From Courthouses
Monday, June 27, 2005
By Jane Roh

A divided Supreme Court on Monday struck down Ten Commandments displays in two Kentucky courthouses, but ruled a 6-foot granite replica on state government land in Texas is acceptable.

Medic's Musings:

In the Kentucky Case, the court ruled that placing the Ten Commandments inside a court building violated the First Amendment (as interpreted by the Supreme Court, IMHO).

In the Texas Case, the Supreme Court ruled that "The justices ruled 5-4 that the Ten Commandments (search) could not be displayed in court buildings or on government property. (just as in the Kentucky case) However, the Biblical laws could be displayed in an historical context, as they are in a frieze in the Supreme Court building. Notably, the first four commandments, which have to do with honoring God and the Sabbath, were obscured by the artist who designed the frieze."

People,..displaying the Ten Commandments IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT OF RELIGION BY OUR GOVERNMENT!!!

If you want to see a government-endorsed religion, look across "the pond" to England!

LONDON — The British government Friday named Ugandan-born cleric the Right Rev. John Sentamu (search) as the new archbishop of York, the Church of England's second most senior position.

Sentamu, now bishop of Birmingham (search), will succeed the Most Rev. David Hope as the archbishop of York, Prime Minister Tony Blair's office announced.

Why did the announcement come from the Prime Minister's office?

"Diocesan bishops within the Church of England are appointed by the British monarch on the advice of the prime minister."

And,...while not mentioned here, Rev. Sentamu's appointment must also be approved by the House of Commons,...you know, England's civil, elected GOVERNMENT!

Why did the mother leave her brain-damaged child unattended for more than 5 minutes?
Why wasn't the abandoned car removed long ago?
Why did the family wait 90 minutes before calling the police?
Why didn't the father search the trunk of the car himself?
Why are minority children always considered a liquidatable asset? (The parents of the three children have lawyered up and plan to sue the City of Camden. Because the city doesn't have the guts to asks these questions, they'll settle out of court for millions - bet on it!)

PBS is accused of liberal media bias, is being threatened with budget cuts, and neo-Socs are all calling for the head of CPB chairman Kenneth Y. Tomlinson. (add'l link)

Why do we need a publicly-funded network? For the price of what PBS will gouge you for a DVD of the Three Tenors, you can pay for a year's subscription to cable!

Will Someone Shut This A**hole Up?

Tom Cruise is back on the attack as far as Brooke Shields is concerned, and the star grew testy during what grew into an outright debate over antidepressants and psychiatry with Today host Matt Lauer in an interview that aired on the NBC morning show Friday.

Noting that Holmes is embracing Cruise's religion of Scientology, Lauer then asked Cruise if he could be with someone who wasn't a Scientologist. He replied: "It's something you don't understand. You can be a Christian and be a Scientologist. It is a religion in that it deals with the spirit, you as a spiritual being."

Cruise also insisted, "There is no such thing as a chemical imbalance," and that through "vitamins and exercise" a person's problems can be cured. "Drugs are not the answer," said Cruise. "I think there's a better quality of life."

Medic's Musings:

  • A) Scientology is a cult. Nothing more, nothing less. The more Tom Cruise feels the need to defend it, the more he makes my point.
  • B) Your "engagement" to Katie Holmes is a publicity stunt. She needs it to garner support for more general-audience movies and you need it to keep in the closet.
  • C) There IS such a thing as neurological chemical imbalances, you nitwit! Or does Scientology advocate we go back to locking up these people in asylums and hitting them up with electro-shocl therapy all day? Or,..how about this Tom,..exorcisms! Depressed people must be possessed of the devil or else they would be like you, runniong around and professing your love (yeah, love, baby, love!) for Katie Holmes every time the camera points at you!

The "Official" Anti-ACLU Rant for 6/23/05

This week's anti-ACLU topic, as chosen by Gribbit, was sure to divide us all:

Congress is once again trying to pass a Constitutional amendment to ban the burning of the American flag (HR 1974)

On the one hand, I agree with many who say that burning the flag desecrates a symbol of this Republic and shows tremendous disrespect to our country. In many cases, it may be considered an act to incite a riot and/or foment seditious activity.

On the other hand, the flag is merely a symbol. Burning our flag is merely expressing one's displeasure with this country and everything it stands for. In this day and age, you would hope that developed countries have an evolved sense of propriety and not stoop to this childish behaviour. It also shows what kind of mental midget you are, but that's a given with the ACLU!

But, freedom of expression is guaranteed by our Constitution and HR 1974 flies right in the face of "Congress shall Make no law...abridging the freedom of speech" (HT to Memento Moron). And, as Common Logic so eloquently puts it "The flag symbolizes liberty. To put any restrictions on the flag restricts our liberties and is a disrespect to all those who fought for your very right to do as you choose."

If Congress, and by extension the citizenry of this Republic, didn't like what was being said about our government, and its leader, and its symbols, then the likes of Howard Dean, Dick Durbin, Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi would have been brought up on charges and locked away years ago. THAT action alone would put this great country on the same playing field as Hitler's Third Reich or Saddam's Iraq.

In closing, if you're going to burn the US flag, you are an asshole and an idiot in my not-so-humble opinion. But as the old chestnut goes: "You can't legislate common sense and you can't cure stupid."

NB: In the interest of fairness, here's the link to Jay's posting on the subject.

Only in Philly,...

(link inserted into title)

With the upcoming Live 8 concert coming to Philly,..it absolutely sickens me to read s**t like this!

Only in Philly would you see urban knuckle-draggers like this trying to make a buck out of a CHARITY event!

Black vendors want part of Live 8

The stage isn't up yet, but already Live 8 is turning into a big show.

A group of African-American business people stormed City Hall yesterday, demanding better vendor opportunities at the massive July 2 concert.

The star-studded concert on the Ben Franklin Parkway July 2 will feature acts such as Jay-Z, Destiny's Child and the Dave Matthews Band. It is one of a series of concerts around the world that day to raise awareness about African poverty.

"Maybe African Countries Should Hold Concerts for Black Philadelphia," read one sign at the demonstration which brought about 100 people outside Mayor Street's office.

A. Bruce Crawley, chairman of the African-American Chamber of Commerce, said the group is frustrated that contracts for vendors at the concert are going to cost $2,500.

He said the group wants to be allowed to hold a vendors' mall at LOVE Park that weekend without such fees. They held a similar event last December.

"The African-American vendors should be returned to LOVE Park," Crawley said.

Mayoral spokeswoman Deborah Bolling said she didn't know where the group got the $2,500 number from. She said none of those terms had been set by the Commerce Department.

Crawley said he was told that this is the figure being discussed.

So wearing shirts that read "If Blacks Can't Participate, Stop Live 8," the crowd chanted "No economic justice, no peace," in City Hall for about an hour yesterday.

Crawley also promised that the group would be more vigilant in the coming days.

"From today on, there will be no discussion of Live 8 anywhere in this city that we won't be a part of," Crawley said. "And we will use this as a jump off point to have an ongoing conversation about black participation in this economy."

Poor Saddam,...

I guess Sen. "DICK" Durbin doesn't know about this torture, huh?

Report: Saddam Friendly With U.S. Troops

NEW YORK (AP) - Thrust unexpectedly into the role of prison guards for Saddam Hussein, a group of young American soldiers found the deposed Iraqi leader to be a friendly, talkative ``clean freak'' who loved Raisin Bran for breakfast, did his own laundry and insisted he was still president of Iraq, says a report published on Monday.

The article quotes the GIs on Saddam's eating preferences - Raisin Bran Crunch was his breakfast favorite. ``No Froot Loops,'' he told O'Shea. He ate fish and chicken but refused beef at dinner.

For a time his favorite food was Cheetos, and when those ran out, Saddam would ``get grumpy,'' the story says. One day the guards substituted Doritos corn chips, and Saddam forgot about Cheetos. ``He'd eat a family size bag of Doritos in 10 minutes,'' Dawson says.

Saddam prayed five times a day in his cell and kept a Quran that he claimed to have found in some rubble near the underground hideout. ``He proudly showed (it) to the boys because it was burned around the edges and had a bullet hole in it,'' the story says.

Defend Our Country and This is What You Get?

Once again,...the Philadelphia Department of (John) Street reaches out to offend more of its citizenry!

From the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin:

They Fought Fires,
They Fought in Iraq,
And Now They Are Fighting City Council

by Jim McCaffrey

Firefighters and Air Force reservists Chris McCormick, Rich Brown and Jim Bonner came to the meeting of City Council's Joint Committees on Labor, Civil Service and Public Safety to plead for back pay, seniority, and pension they believe they are legally owed.

The three reservists testified they were called up to serve in Operation Iraqi freedom.

During their tour of duty they became eligible to test for promotion in the Philadelphia Fire Department.

Each man took the written test in April 2004 and passed. Each finished among the top 20 of all those taking the written test.

When the men returned from their tour last August they asked to take the oral test.

It was not given to them until February of this year. Though they all passed the oral exam, they were not promoted.

The men went to their Firefighters Union Local 22 and asked for help lobbying for the promotions they believe were guaranteed by federal law. Finally, two weeks ago, through the intercession of Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers, the men received their promotions.

In all,.these men were screwed out of approximately $25000 in back wages by the city.

Mosque backs Ali's leadership
By Jim Remsen
Inquirer Faith Life Editor

Imam Shamsud-din Ali's standing as spiritual leader of the Philadelphia Masjid is secure despite his racketeering conviction Tuesday in the City Hall corruption probe, mosque members said yesterday.

Sentiment among worshipers exiting the West Philadelphia mosque following Friday jum'ah prayers was that their longtime cleric was falsely accused and prosecuted.

One member, Curtis DeVeaux, said he spent a week at the federal trial, and "I saw no significant evidence of any wrongdoing. Without a doubt, the imam was trumped up."

Ali has "100 percent community support," DeVeaux said, echoing the views of about 10 other people interviewed.

Dissident members of the African American mosque formed a rival board last year and sued to oust Ali, but a Common Pleas judge denied the request.

Since the racketeering verdict, Ali also has received solid support from the Muslim leadership council known as the Majlis Ash'Shura of Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley.

Medic's Musing:

After reading this, I sometimes wonder if the greatest Muslim threat to this country isn't external (that is, from the Middle East) but internal. Black Muslims also preach from the same Islamic gospel of hate, but in general, their hatred is routinely directed at white Judeo-Christian society.

Overkilling Schiavo?

(link inserted into title)

Rachel Marsden has an interesting spin on the continuing saga of Terri Schiavo.

(Quick aside,..those from Philly will get this: If the MSM doesn't stop with this story, Pat's Steaks are going to start using it in their cheesesteaks very soon)

The private dispute between members of the Schiavo family over the life of their severely brain-damaged daughter/wife, Terri, should never have become the media circus that it did. Someone should have hired Michael Schiavo’s anti-food tube lawyer to shut down all the greasy spoons within a 20 mile radius that were fuelling the reflex-driven, brain-dead reporters covering the case.

Conservatives can’t have it both ways: Either they value the institution of marriage, or they don’t. On her wedding day, Terri Schiavo’s father walked her down the aisle and gave her away to Michael Schiavo. That’s supposed to actually mean something. And as her husband, he honored his vow to be by her side until the end.

There are no villains here, just a lot of shortsighted idiots who, thankfully, never got their way. Now may this whole fiasco just finally rest in peace.

OK,..so Senator Durbin likes to use names like Hitler, Pol Pot and Stalin?

I've got a couple names for him:
  • Benedict Arnold!
  • Quisling!
  • Neville Chamberlain!
  • Judas (Thanx BobG!)
Last night, a friend of mine asked me (rather rhetorically) "Doesn't he (Durbin) know what he's doing to his own country?"

I quickly reminded him that this country is not the country of people like Sens. Durbin, Clinton, Schumer, Feingold, Boxer, and Byrd,..or Governor Dean and George Soros.

If these people had it their way, the United States would become some twisted socialist Utopia; the country's capital (and seat of government) would be moved to 42nd St & First Ave in NYC, and all of our troops would be wearing powder blue berets!

Senator Bill Frist needs to move now to censure this loud-mouthed asshole!

  • "If it had been Tom Cruise (or PeeWee Herman, Robert Downey, etc) how many "white activists" would have flocked to California and supported them? Oh, yeah,..whites don't need activists,...
  • Money talks,...and talks,..and talks,...
  • Speaking of money, it must be nice to be a multimillionaire freak and indulge your perversions, knowing that you can buy off any squealers and have enough force to chase that person so far away, that the US government can't even find you!

Yeah,..9/11 was really all our fault!

A couple of items that appeared this week,..once again blaming the US for 9/11:

WASHINGTON (AP) - In the weeks and months before Sept. 11, 2001, the FBI had some clues, but didn't see them. It had a lead from one of its own agents, but didn't follow it.

``The way the FBI handled these matters was a significant failure that hindered the FBI's chances of being able to detect and prevent the Sept. 11 attacks,'' Inspector General Glenn Fine said in a newly released report Thursday.

And Michelle Malkin informs us that the WTC rebuilding commission is ready to tell the world how badly we deserved 9/11!

Most Americans have not been paying attention to the bureaucratic wrangling and political jockeying that has plagued the construction of the World Trade Center Memorial at Ground Zero in lower Manhattan. But it's not just New Yorkers and developers and 9/11 families who should care.

A Blame America Monument is not what we need or deserve. But it looks like one is already in the works.

In a startling op-ed printed in the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, Debra Burlingame exposed the "Great Ground Zero Heist." Burlingame is on the board of directors of the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation and the sister of Charles F. "Chic" Burlingame III, pilot of American Airlines fight 77, which terrorists crashed into the Pentagon on 9/11. She reports that the World Trade Center memorial will encompass a "cultural complex" whose primary tenant will be something called the "International Freedom Center."

Medic's Musing:

I've looked at this site and the scrolling quotes at the top of the page are pure UN/One-World/leftist dribble!

Back to Michelle's posting:

The center's "civic engagement network" will connect visitors to "service" opportunities. Translation: Left-wing activist recruitment center. As the fact sheet notes, "leading NGOs (non governmental organizations) will be offered outposts at the Center to reach out to its visitors."

Richard Tofel, IFC president, is minimizing dissenters. In a statement, he told me that "we understand that a few do not" agree with the project's stated mission of promoting the "cause of freedom." The question is not whether most Americans support a monument to freedom, but whether they will stand by while saboteurs convert it into The Ultimate Guilt Complex.

A Voice of Protest Silenced

This weekend, the actor, Leon Askin passed away. In the US he was probably most famous for his role as General Burkhalter on Hogan's Heroes.

Along with fellow cast members Werner Klemperer and Robert Clary, Mr. Askin was a European Jew who fled the Nazi persecution.

Ironically, all three eventually went on to star in a show that allowed them to further belittle Nazi Germany and the idea of Nazism in general.

Ain't America great??

Political Turmoil at PBS, NPR
Charges of bias lead to changes, backlash
by Steven Goldstein
Inquirer Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON - For many Americans, public TV means Sesame Street, Masterpiece Theatre and Antiques Roadshow. But for Kenneth Y. Tomlinson, chairman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, it came to mean liberal bias in its news and public affairs programming.

Two years ago, the Republican former head of Voice of America and Reader's Digest set out to restore what he called objectivity and balance to the Public Broadcasting Service and National Public Radio.

Now Tomlinson's makeover attempts have made their own news: Angry chiefs at PBS and NPR; an investigation of whether his actions amounted to illegal political interference; and questions about whether he may have overreached.

Media specialist Patricia Aufderheide said Tomlinson's actions show a "wanton disregard" for the corporation's mission.

"It's not CPB's job to introduce politicization; its job it to insulate public broadcasting from partisan politics," said Aufderheide, who teaches at American University's Center for Social Media in Washington.

But conservative media critic L. Brent Bozell said the corporation's "serious" plans to achieve a better balance on views will allow PBS to "have more success, getting more and more federal funding."

The serious plans included Tomlinson's quiet hiring last year of a private consultant to monitor the content of Bill Moyers' show Now for "anti-Bush" and "anti-business" biases. Moyers left in December, but the half-hour weekly program continues.

Tomlinson's mostly behind-the-scenes campaign recently reached a wider audience with the appointment of two ombudsmen to monitor PBS content, and with public sparring between Tomlinson and PBS president Pat Mitchell.

In a speech at the end of May, Mitchell defended her organization's integrity and said it would not be deterred by political threats.

"PBS has built and maintained a steadfast resolve to never give in to pressures to reflect a political agenda," she said.

NPR president Kevin Klose called "unsupportable" an assertion by Tomlinson that NPR's reporting on the Middle East is unbalanced.

Says American University's Aufderheide: "The issue should be providing the information that viewers and listeners want and need, not questions of balance. It will be interesting to see how PBS handles this challenge and how the stations handle this intimidation."

Medic's Musing:

Where do I start?? "Never give in to pressures to reflect a political agenda?" Of course, you never "give in" when the agenda in already built into the system at PBS!

"Providing the information that viewers and listeners want and need?" To paraphrase Marx (how appropriate),...the MSM has become the opiate of the masses! What they "want and need" is what the MSM is willing to spoon-feed the neo-Soc PBS supporters!

Oh,..God,..I need to stop,..my side's splitting!

How Did the MSM Miss This One?

From the Associated Press:

Opposition protesters rally in Azerbaijan's capital

About 10,000 opposition protesters chanted "Freedom!" and carried pictures of President Bush as they marched yesterday across Azerbaijan's capital, Baku, urging the government to step down and allow free parliamentary elections this year. The rally was the largest opposition demonstration in the oil-rich former Soviet republic since October 2003.

Hat-Tip to Talk Show America!

U.N.: Weapons Equipment Missing in Iraq

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - U.N. satellite imagery experts have determined that material that could be used to make biological or chemical weapons and banned long-range missiles has been removed from 109 sites in Iraq, U.N. weapons inspectors said in a report obtained Thursday.

Medic's Musings:

Oh, my God! Someone give Mr. Blix a pair of glasses!

U.N. inspectors have been blocked from returning to Iraq since the U.S.-led war in 2003 so they have been using satellite photos to see what happened to the sites that were subject to U.N. monitoring because their equipment had both civilian and military uses.

Medic's Musings:

Could these possibly be the same satellites we used for the same intel? You know, the intel the UNtied Nations has denounced for over a year?

In the report to the U.N. Security Council, acting chief weapons inspector Demetrius Perricos said he's reached no conclusions about who removed the items or where they went. He said it could have been moved elsewhere in Iraq, sold as scrap, melted down or purchased.

Um,...I'll take option three (cough,...cough) Syria,..Iran,..(cough,...cough)

He said the missing material can be used for legitimate purposes. "However, they can also be utilized for prohibited purposes if in a good state of repair."

"Legitimate purposes??" According to whom? Allah??

He said imagery analysts have identified 109 sites that have been emptied of equipment to varying degrees, up from 90 reported in March.

The report also provided much more detail about the percentage of items no longer at the places where U.N. inspectors monitored them.

The report said 37 of 405 fermenters ranging in size from 2 gallons to 1,250 gallons had been removed. Those could be used to produce pharmaceuticals and vaccines as well as biological warfare agents such as anthrax.

The largest percentages of missing items were at the 58 missile facilities, which include some of the key production sites for both solid and liquid propellant missiles, the report said.

At the Kadhimiyah and Al Samoud factory sites in suburban Baghdad, where the report said airframes and engines for liquid propellant missiles were manufactured and final assembly was carried out, "all equipment and missile components have been removed."

This, my friends, is why we need to confirm John Bolton to the UN.

Live 8,....a few Thoughts!

So, Bob Geldof is doing his Bono impression this week.....Live Aid + 20 is returning to Philadelphia and the citizens are going nuts.

Medic's Musings:
  • I was an EMT at the first Live Aid at JFK Stadium. (Yes, the TrekMedic is THAT old!)
  • Am I the only one who sees the irony in this: Live 8, a concert designed to draw attention to the troubles of the Third World, is being hosted in a city who's government is run like a Third World country?
  • Free concert along the Ben Franklin Parkway? When is was the Beach Boys, it rocked. A bunch of overly-rich has-beens won't.
  • Fire works at Penn's Landing and THIS all in the same day? Can someone say "gridlock?"
  • A free concert full of RAPPERS = RIOT!
